I started reading regularly again for 2024; I feel like I haven't made time for leisurely reading since I was a kid! I've been reading Lisa Congdon's Find Your Artistic Voice to motivate me and just started The Priory of the Orange Tree and Three-Body Problem as my fiction selection this month. Love these videos and geeking over books again!
I LOVE Martin Salisbury's books, especially Illustrators' Sketchbooks and Drawing for Illustration! Now I have to go check out his books on Children's Picture Books! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Katie this video was so fun to watch :) Most art book videos I see are “the art of” books of animated movies, video games etc. I really like how you shared art books that you can really study, I will definitely be checking them out! I started The Artist’s Way, although I fell off and need to keep studying it and doing the exercises 😂 I’d recommend Steal like an Artist by Austin Kleon, Draw Stronger by Kriota Willberg, How to be an Artist by Jerry Saltz, Sketchbook to Style by Christine Nishiyama for art in general and 1500 Color Mixing Recipes for oil, acrylic and watercolor by William F. Powell and The Complete Color Harmony Pantone Edition by Leatrice Eiseman for color!
John Berger also did a short television series regarding the Ways Of Seeing with the BBC, all of which is now available here on RUclips! For anyone interested :) (also it is pronounced with a j, bur-jer)
Hi! 100 Ways to Draw a Bird and Make a Living from Illustration by Felix Scheiberger. A fun and insightful read on living as an illustrator - from the practical to the mundane, with lots of bird illustrations on the pages. Another is Neil Gaiman's Art Matters, Illustrated by Chris Riddell, a quick read but bursting with inspiration on each page. The Art of ____ Studio Ghibli books are also great references for storytelling and a look into creating the art / characters behind the films. I love your collection. Watching your video reminded me that I still have a lot of books that I need to read and really delve into. Have a lovely day!
Adult book about children's illustration by Elina Ellis. But I'm not sure if it's available in English. And another book is The art of noticing by Rob Walker. Highly recommend this one! I was binge reading it
