Well.....depends on how you define free. Remember God is omniscient, God created Satan knowing he would fall. In fact God planned on Satan falling as part of his broader plan. Satan still appears to have a will as do we, but from God's perspective we are simply doing what he foresaw we would do. The idea of free will in the Christian worldview is rather strange if you actually read your Bible. Judas was prophesied to betray the lord years before he was born. Jesus told Peter, you will deny me 3 times. Could peter have chosen otherwise? Could judas have chosen otherwise? No, it was preordained the path they would walk. From Peter and Judas's perspective, I'm sure they believed they were making a free will choice not that they were acting out what had already been foretold. It is a very interesting topic nonetheless, especially when you get into a thought experiment. Say for instance in the book of revelations it state the antichrist will go into the temple and demand they stop making sacrifices. Is even the antichrist unable to escape his fate and do what the lord has already predetermined for him to do?
God is good, always because anything he does is good. It is not good because of my opinion, it is good because he has done it. God is the measure by which the word good has any meaning. He is the foundation upon which morality is built. God bless, the Book of Job is a great eye opener in this. John Piper has a wonderful and humbling sermon on the Book of Job.

@@Matt-bz5vg I think free will is a little different than we know. Like if we made a choice it created a multiverse. Like idk how to explain it, but every thing is doing God's will and not at the same time. God made them free so they can weave their own destiny but since God sees everything he already saw the future u were going to go through, and he saw this with infinite possibilities. Thus u have free will, but there are also other versions of you who made other choices and spawned other stories, therefore u have free will, just not in the sense u think cuz God sees every reality u will go through. “John 13:2, the Last Supper, ‘The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him.’ So instances like this. Jesus calls Judas a devil in John 6. Jesus says it would be better for that man never to have been born than to do the things he has done. So I suppose we could multiply many examples from Scripture alone that point to the fact that Judas did not go to heaven: Its also my personal belief that a spirit filled person does not commit suicide.

      HI
We do not have Free Will. When Eve sinned and ate the forbidden fruit she was COUNTERMANDING God's will, and this made a saviour necessary, because 'ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God'. ' Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN!' ' If you love me do my commands' NO FREE WILL! Only OBEDIENT will is acceptable! Jesus/ Yeshua OBEYED the Father unto the death of the cross! Because THIS was the Father's will! He said 'If it were possible take this cup from me, NEVERTHELESS not MY WILL but THINE be done. ' So called ''Free will' is really only ' Carnal will'. Peter said ' For there is none other name under heaven wherewith we MUST be saved'. Satan seemed 'Free' to Eve when he made her question God's command about the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Was she exercising her ' Free will' when she decided to eat from it? NO she was putting herself ABOVE God's direct command which made her and Adam and their heirs forfeit rulership of the earth to Satan! Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua.

For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue just as they were from the beginning of creation.” For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed by being flooded with water. But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people. But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. Examples of hyperbole in English:
    1) I told you a million times.
    2) I was so hungry I could eat a horse.
    3) I was so embarrassed I could die.
    4) I ate so much I could burst.
    5) He would give you the shirt off his back.
    6) He scared me to death.
While these expressions may or may not make sense if translated to other languages, fluent English speakers understand that they are not literal and not meant to be taken at face value.
Likewise, other languages have their own expressions that do not translate easily to English. Jesus’ words concerning Judas Iscariot is one such expression in the cultural and linguistic context of that day.

    • @LouisFGraham

@@LouisFGraham Then you're missing the point, basically the lesson here is read it in context, you need to be aware of how you distinguish hyperbole from the literal meaning of the phrase.
Like for example in Deuteronomy 7 God said WIPE all the women, children, animals; then the next verse says don't intermarry with them. If you just wipe everybody out how can you intermarry with them, they're dead.
Is God a liar for saying that? NO, you reconcile this by distinguishing Hyperbolic language.

    • @LouisFGraham
      @LouisFGraham 5 лет назад +10

@@Kaho no God does not lie, if you believe in God, and these two versus are not in contradiction. They also have nothing to do with lying. Dont try to deflect and distract from the issue at hand. There is absolutely no reason for children of God to lie in any context. You're looking for an excuse or justification to lie. You can lie if you want. You have free will. Just be honest about it and accept that it's not Godly. We do tons of things all the time that are not Godly, lying by hyperbole is one of them. If you can lie through omission, certainly intentional lying through hyperbole is categorically a lie.

This is the only way for true love to exist, it cannot be forced. That being said, he also knows/knew all the choices that people make/made before they happened. What God is saying is that He created evil (which can be translated at "calamity" or "disaster") for the wicked (i.e. those who choose evil over righteousness). God has rightly judged and prepared a day for every person and every deed. Look at this verse as translated through NIV: "The Lord works out everything to its proper end-
even the wicked for a day of disaster." Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." God did not create Judas for evil. Judas chose for himself.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.......And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father

    • @stevesmith7843
      @stevesmith7843 3 года назад +2

@@mitchellc4 well it's both simple and complicated at the same time isn't it haha, as are all the things of the Father, Son, and Holy spirit, God the Father exists, being ONE with his only begotten Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy spirit that is in both of them, and is of the Father, and thus of the Son, Jesus and God are DISTINCT in that they have their own personalities, however they are also one, and it's no surprise that a perfect Father (God) and perfect Son (Jesus) would also be very much the same, as the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and Jesus being ONE with God, and the Son, whom are both the alpha, omega, who always have been and always will be, the beginning, and the end, acts as a son, and God being the Father acts as a Father, even though they are ONE that is the order of Gods very nature, hence the Father is the head of Christ (the son) and Christ the head of man, and man the head of woman, and his children etc. God gave his Son Jesus an inheritance, as every good father is to give to his son, Jesus's inheritance was his name to be exalted above all others, and to have power over both heaven and earth, as scripture states. It all makes sense (as much as something like this can to a man i suppose haha) when you think about it, God the Father issued the orders of creation to his Son Jesus, who followed his fathers commands, and created all he was commanded, and in turn came to us and spoke his Fathers words as commanded, to all of us, for as Jesus said, he speaks not his own words, but the words of him who sent him. And we as Good servants and sons to Christ, should likewise obey etc, as should those who we are heads over. Hopefully i didn't butcher that too much lol, but this is my current understanding, and as paul says, "he who thinks he knows, knows not yet as he ought to know", perhaps one day this will be an incredibly easy to understand concept, but as of most things of God, for us humans, it's hard to comprehend. God bless you and keep you :)

      @rolysantos 4 года назад +2

I think you also are mistaking people's choice to do what they do, with God's predermination that they would do it.
      See Isaiah 10:5-19:
The Lord SENT the King of Assyria to Judah to punish them, to "trample them down like mud in the streets," Saying that the King of Assyria is "the rod of my anger" and "the club of my wrath." Then He (The Lord) says to the King "But this is not what he (the king) intends...his purpose is to destroy"
God then says (paraphrasing) even though I was the one who sent him and wielded him like an ax, he did what he did for his own wicked purpose and therefore I will punish him.
At one in the same time God ordained that the King of Assyria would do what he did and yet what the king did was by HIS wicked choice and was justly punished.
      See also Isaiah 37:
"Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, this is the word which the Lord has spoken CONCERNING HIM:....“Did you not hear long ago
      How I made it,
From ancient times that I formed it? Now I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO PASS, That you should be For crushing fortified cities into heaps of ruins."
God ordained it from "long ago" that the King of Assyria would be used as a "club" for "crushing fortified cities.." And yet, it WAS the king's "will" to do what he did. The free will of men to do what they "want" to do is not subverted by God's sovereignty and foreordaining of "whatsoever comes to pass."

There was no choice.... You are saying that Jesus might've not been betrayed?? Judas could've not delivered Jesus to the Pharisees to be killed? No, no, and no. Jesus was slain before the foundations of the world. He was predestined to be killed so that salvation would be possible. It didn't just happen, this was God's plan from the beginning. Now we can debate over free will all you want, but free will is an assumption by man that is not affirmed in the bible. But free will is not possible since God is sovereign and he declares the end from the beginning and no one can stay his hand with their "free will". "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
" -Daniel 4:35. Now just because God predestined Judas to do what he did doesn't mean that Judas isn't responsible for it. Judas was born into sin with a fallen nature and God doesn't have to force any sinner to sin, he uses their sinful ways to fulfill his plans. As it is written in Romans 9:15 "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

@A Aron I think you make some good points. The only thing I'd add which is an elaboration from something else frank has said which is the timing at which Christ came into the world. He not only knew what would happen if he created every little minor detail of creation and all the possibilities but as part of those possibilities he foresaw that by doing everything in the way he did when would be the perfect time he needed to enter the world to deliver it to create the best possible outcome. God chose this exact way within his identity as perfection, and as perfection he knew this was the perfect way to interact with a severely imperfect world.

Our flesh lives for the moment hence why we have an internal desire to do that which we know is wrong, Paul the apostle talked about this. Satan tempts us, yes, but our flesh always tempts regularly, hence why Paul said that we must wrestle with our old man daily. This aligns with what the Lord Jesus commanded us to do daily, when he said that we must deny ourselves (fleshly desires) and pick up their cross daily (resist and strive to turn from our sins daily).

Jesus knew from the beginning who would betray Him (John 6:64ff), yet still called Judas to come and follow Him. If I knew what was in store for Judas, I think I would have told him "get outta Dodge and don't look back. You'll thank me later."

on the other hand, the devil works in ways that _seem_ good at the time, but leave you without a satisfied feeling so you crave more and become more wrapped in sin, ex, having more than enough money but not giving a dollar or more to someone or something that truly needs it.

-God wanted to kill Moses for an unknown reason.
-Abraham nearly killed his son on God's command.
-Thousands of David's army died because he(David) boasted in his heart.
    -Isaiah was dismembered.
    -Steven was stoned to death.
    -John the baptist was beheaded.
    -Paul was beheaded.
    -Peter was crucified.
    -James was stoned to death.
    -Etc...
We often try to dilute the text in order to see something more "loving" in it.
When metaphors are used in the Bible it is often obvious, but Jesus' claim about Judas being hyperbolic, I'm not really sure.
Judas betrayed God for money and died before the new covenant was made.
But at the same time Judas' crime was part of God's plan to redeem humanity.
Jesus seems to say that Judas will go through such a terrible "thing" that it would have been better for him to be never born.
Well, I personally hope that Judas (and everybody else in this world) will be saved. Even though universalism is not a biblical concept.

nice-new that’s inaccurate Aaron didn’t hit the rock moses did. That’s why God took his life.
Both God and Abraham knew that his child wasn’t going to die. God was just testing him to see if he would trust God.

Judas was not saved. Satan entered into him at the Last Supper, and Jesus referred to him as the son of perdition (eternal punishment). He also committed suicide. See John 13:26-27 and 17:12, and Matthew 27:3-5.

@@jairohernandez9538 Yes you're right, it was Moses. But Aaron died for Moses' mistake. I rectified my comment.
About Abraham, I am not sure why God, being all-knowing, would need to test anyone to see their reaction.
I always struggle with this kind of passage, because they seems harsh and bizarre.

nice-new “I’m not sure god being all knowing would need to test someone to see their reaction”
I don’t think that is why he did it but IF that is why, it doesn’t have anything to do with his all knowing. If anything, it could’ve been to make a good bible story to teach people with. With that logic, you could say that God shouldn’t have created anything and just looked into the future to see who would believe in him IF he created the universe- but not actually create the universe and then put all those people in heaven.
I think he asked Abraham to do that to actually give him the chance to choose - because that’s what free-will is.
