All jokes aside, I feel like there’s some actual healing that take place in convos like these. Shared experiences, shared trauma, collective healing. I love to see it.
I can imagine the dad would still argue with him after he stabbed his son... Dad: Haiyaaa! Why you dying?! It's because you FAILURE! Son: Nah dad... you failure!
7:05 I'm glad this is one of the things about my culture that I wasn't really ashamed of growing up. I still call my brother "big bro" in Canto out of respect
I am a hairstylist & let me just say witnessing how parents interact with their kids, reveals a lot in that short time frame. Even the people around you are ready to reveal their own tempers. I've had people yell, hold down their kids until they turn red, yell at their kids, or people say, "man if it was me, I'd smack my kid, at least they come out with a good haircut. Sad sad thing. To desire so much for something that you would be willing to risk your kids life for it. Careful.
Im glad I am not the only one who got chased around and threatened with a meat cleaver. Thank u bart n nick for being relatable for me 🥲 All over my adhd butt not wanting to sit still and practice piano 😌 ahhh, effective parenting, me screaming crying running around for my life traumatized, locked myself in the bathroom and sat on top of the toilet sure my mother was going to kill me as she slides the cleaver back and forth under the door like a damn horror movie villain.
I respect the og man. Its something about back in the day, even the gangsters respected your parents or grandparents. It would be some thugged out dudes but if someone's grandma was around aye fool no cursing around g ma. She be going to church and sh!t lol
In a way I'm glad johnny chang and people like him went through what they went through and now became what they became because it made them a better person. We all grow in different ways.
One of my friends was injured due to his dad throwing a katana at him during a heated argument 😭 had to drive himself to the hospital because it caused an injury - this happened before we met. Please have Johnny on here more often!!
My dad was a state champ wrestler and would mess with me quite a bit. Lucky UFC came along, and my boys and I learn (very poor) jujitsu, it was enough for him to stop messing for him to stop. Then the verbal started but whatever. Stay strong bros!
Johnny! Love him! We have swords hanging up. Never would we ever use it to taunt the kids. He didn't get enough time. Ryan and the last line 😂😂. Nick and Bart are on fire in this 😂.
Every Asian person knows how scary their parents can be. Other people see a tiny, quiet, kind Asian lady but we know that woman, our moms, is capable of slamming your forehead on the floor if you misbehave...
Spare the sword and spoil the child. The oldtimers seemed to always think that pain is/was the only teacher, its like they want the younger generations to feel what they did, like how dare we learn without pain and agony
I don't think the parents love their children, otherwise they wouldn't abuse them to this extent, I know they've had a difficult life, but that doesn't excuse the amount of abuse they place on an innocent life.
Probably "14" because I remember in my Chinese class in college, my Chinese prof told us that since the Chinese people were superstitious about some things and that they tended to link "4" with "death" since in Chinese (mandarin) they sounded very similar. The Chinese government was probably like "ahhhh 4 is too short" and "24 is too long since he's old", "14 seems about right".
I remembwr a couple family members having samurai swords in their living rooms; decorative ones on like a mantleplace or ontop pf a sound system. Were filipino, so i dont know what all that was about. This was in the late 80s, 90s.
LOL, my mom threatened me with cleaver's, big ass knives, only accidently caught me in my left eye lid (not on purpose) many times when i was in my teens. HAHAHA, Must be a asian thing!!.. I'd get my ass beat with metal / wood spatulas and broomsticks!!!. She'd break broomsticks on me, ladle's, yardsticks!! Name it. lol. She even came at me with a spatula held on the stovetop burner to threatened me, and ended up 3rd degree burning my arm. still got the scar and im 42 now. She definitely repressed all those memories, and totally ignores the fact she did any of it. Asian / South -East Asians/ Indian folks go in on their kids back in the days, especially the first born. they learn the in and outs with us, and the siblings get it easier, and tame version. Damn havent thought about all this for a long time. Kinda feel good rehashed it typing this out.
@@snowygalaxy3361 thanks. It shaped me the way i am. Albeit on the far end overboard of the scale, ive accepted it, i know it was her way if parenting, a cycle repeating itself from how she grew up. We dont choose what circumstances we are born into, and must experience, but we can use it and make it a drive and fuel for the better.
If you combine a father who is abusive, has unchecked anger issues, etc then yes sad to say I know & seen many Asian fathers who will beat their children & then lose control or something goes wrong in fear mongering & it gets worse.
The worst punishment I ever got was being shoved inside a rice sack, beaten up by a thick ass leather belt while in it, then the sack with me inside hung up on the ceiling for hours. Good times. 🤣🤣
So, I remember my sister did something that was so bad that my mother whooped her with a toilet plunger. Don’t remember what she did but I remember what she got a whooping with
Asian parents be testing the torture boundary. I remember my dad put me in a chicken transporter red orange rectangle looking box made of plastic for an entire day. I think I was only 4-6 years old. I remember just crunched in there from morning to night.
All jokes aside, I feel like there’s some actual healing that take place in convos like these. Shared experiences, shared trauma, collective healing. I love to see it.
Group therapy lol
There’s always such good energy when Johnny is present. Even if it’s emotional content, the vibe is entertaining and informative. 🙏🏼🥰
Accidentally?! I imagine it takes a little force and isn't as smooth as cutting butter...
Right, u don’t shoot someone a couple times and say it’s an accident.
its a prank bro
Something you’d like to share with the class?
I love the emotion joe puts behinds his words and actions.

As crazy as my parents were growing up in an Asian-1st American Generation household, I could never imagine pointing a gun at them 😅
Asian dad: "my son can not be a disgrace to the family if he is dead."
7:05 I'm glad this is one of the things about my culture that I wasn't really ashamed of growing up. I still call my brother "big bro" in Canto out of respect

The final Ryan quote killed me 😂🤣💀
As a kid, you glad you don’t get beat, as an adult, you wish you were beat. Would of gotten my shit together by now 😅😅
this shit is so real
I respect the og man. Its something about back in the day, even the gangsters respected your parents or grandparents. It would be some thugged out dudes but if someone's grandma was around aye fool no cursing around g ma. She be going to church and sh!t lol

Tbh whatever pain, suffering, and punishment that he experiences as a result of this is fair.
lol hey Johnny put ur gun at him man 😂😂😂😂. it's always funny with Johnny in the show
My dad was a state champ wrestler and would mess with me quite a bit. Lucky UFC came along, and my boys and I learn (very poor) jujitsu, it was enough for him to stop messing for him to stop. Then the verbal started but whatever. Stay strong bros!
I LOVE when you guys have him over
This is why you don't point a weapon at anything you don't intend to destroy.
The end of this video made me crack up so hard!😂
Johnny! Love him! We have swords hanging up. Never would we ever use it to taunt the kids. He didn't get enough time. Ryan and the last line 😂😂. Nick and Bart are on fire in this 😂.
This is why Asian kids get good grades and study hard
Your life literally depends on it
@@mark8200 hahaha so true. Asian parenting is truly next level extreme.
Survivorship bias - only the ones who gwt good grades survive, apparently
Every Asian person knows how scary their parents can be. Other people see a tiny, quiet, kind Asian lady but we know that woman, our moms, is capable of slamming your forehead on the floor if you misbehave...
But the mental trauma man… this is why sometimes we start off as socially off.

They were probably taught the same OR they don't know how to express positively so they express in pain lol
My mom and dad had a whole collection of samurai swords on the walls! Even brought them back home as gifts overseas 😅

So easy for nick to make a quick funny ass joke
My mom spanked me with a butcher knife once 😅😢😂
Lmao same she hit me over the head with the blunt end and said I was gonna die 💀
Nasty...they saw signs of him punching him too? So it's not an accident. It's abuse
Yesss sirrr johnny

Shoulda stuck with the chicken feather duster🤦
They would beat you with anything they can lift
I like how they talk like black people. Using all of our slang , ebonics , etc
fasho its really common in certain areas esp in cali. My entire life was like the UN talking all hood and shit lol
The worst punishment I ever got was being shoved inside a rice sack, beaten up by a thick ass leather belt while in it, then the sack with me inside hung up on the ceiling for hours. Good times. 🤣🤣
Holy shit I'm sorry bro/brosette, that's crazy even by Asian standards
That's just plain abuse... I'm sorry you had to go through that
