    Hey Greg, taste test of the lemon cuke is great. But going on munching, going on and on, is just plain annoying to watch. Also, it shows you as being distracted and not focussing. All in all, makes for a third rate video, please avoid it

    • @XaViEr3520
      @XaViEr3520 5 лет назад +20

      Avoid it? Several viewers like that he eats during the show, I’m one of them and it’s not annoying. It’s a “thing” now that he does do it for the show, at least I like to think he does it for the show but then again greg might just like eating 🤣 but that’s what makes the show fun to watch cause we don’t know what he has in store to be munching on!!!

    Hey guys. I grew up gardening but haven't done much the last few years due to my career and raising a family. Now that my nest is about empty and I'm approaching retirement, I'm starting to garden again. I want to use as natural methods as I can that are still effective. I also started keeping bees which brings to mind the question of what products are safe to use on pests that won't harm bees? Keep up the videos, I love the way you do them.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 лет назад

      Neem Oil, B.t., Horticultural Oil, and our Complete Disease Control are all completely safe around bees. Pyrethrin and Spinosad are also organic pest control solutions that work great, but should be sprayed late in the evening to not bother bees during feeding times.

    any tips for squash vine borers. They show up here EARLY in south louisiana. I saw my first one 2 weeks ago and noticed eggs laid on my zucchini. I sprayed some Neem on the stalks just to see but I am open to Ideas. Last year my zucchini harvest was definitely cut short on my first planting and my second planting was a full failure because of these buggers

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  5 лет назад +1

      In some instances, you just have to play your odds and try to get everything planted as early as you can. We can't grow squash here once it's really hot because the squash bug pressure is off the charts. But we can get 2-3 rounds of squash before that happens. So we spray often and early in the life of the plant and try to maximize our crops while we can. You're never going to win the war completely, but you can win those early battles.

I have read that hort oil can help prevent spread but I'm afraid if I use that I wont be able to spray anything else that will make contact with the PM. So far this year, I have seen three bees. Three. I suspect that all of the construction where the small farms and orange groves were has a lot to do with it. And of course, you can't keep bees in the city limits. Any help you can give us for pollinators would be great! As far as pests are concerned, we haven't seen much in the way of insects, save for some aphids on my kale. I'm starting to use BT and Garden Insect Spray now. My corn is starting to tassel, and I'm going to start spraying with the GIS (spinosad) as soon as I see silk starting - I'm listening to you, Greg!

    I've always told customers to always adhere to the manufacturers instructions on using pesticides. The reason why you should is because in most cases if not all, neither too much nor too little is a good thing. Always remembering that the manufacturer wants you to be as successful as possible to continue buying their products. It would be better to under spray a properly mixed pesticide than to over spray an improperly mixed one.
