Thanks a lot DSoundman for this video! Very useful and so clear! Really appreciate. My first video this morning to learn how to use my new new Stage3 in my studio: discovering your channel is so great.
I really appreciate this video. For a few weeks now, I have been on the fence about getting a Nord Stage 3, mostly due to three factors: 1) ignorance about how to navigate and manage the sound library; 2) intimidation of its many customizable features; and 3) the small size of the displays. Your video not only enlightened me, but also turned my intimidation into inspiration. With the amount of on-board customization, I don't feel like I need to resort to external VST's (virtual instruments) to get high-quality, customized sounds. And with a quick turnaround between setup and playing, I don't have to think about a complex I/O configuration between a DAW and a MIDI keyboard. But, if I want that option, it's there (with 5-pin MIDI I/O). I can just plug and play, not having to be concerned about a complex chain of I/O and multiple points of failure. There are many features that set the Nord Stage 3 apart -- too many, in fact, to list all of them here; but, having played one at our local Guitar Center, I was so impressed by three things: 1) the quality of its sounds; 2) its pristine playability (at least on the 88-key, hammer-action version that I played); and 3) the immediate access a keyboard player has to all customizable parameters, allowing you to get the exact sound you want for a particular patch. Thank you for taking the time to navigate us through these features!
Thank you so much for your channel and your videos which I am finding so helpful. I just got my NS3C last week and I have a LOT to learn. really appreciate your vids!
Using Sound Manager unravels the complexities of the Nord. Plug in all the Pedals connect your Laptop, connect CH1,2 CH3,4 to a Small Mixer and send this to the main mixer.
hey, could you maybe do a video on how to make a program with a soft dark pad,a bright pad and some rythmic pads? Pads that are used to fill in when playing in a band.
Amazing videos! Douglas, these videos are really helpful! I have a Question: is it possible to layer multiple samples in one program? Let's say, I have a bass guitar sample that I want to put on the bottom, piano in the middle and on top a Bass slide sample. So basically I want to use 2 (or more) samples from my sample bank in one program to play live. Or let's say I have received programs and samples that I want to mix into one program. I know with A and B, we can layer up to 6 instruments. Instead of an Organ, can I somehow use that bank to put the bass, or slide? Thanks a lot!
Hi, good video. I've had my NS3 88 for 3 weeks now. Just curious, the factory programmes appear to have organ, piano and synth programmes mixed up but was wondering whether it would be best to have say bank A with just piano programmes, Bank B for Electric pianos etc etc . or have you just left things where they are and used Song mode to bring up your favourites? Just curious to see what others are doing. Unless you have a pretty good memory its just a little tricky to know where things are without playing each programme.
Thank you so much for these helpful videos! Would you be able to do a video on how to use Mainstage as an Extern on the Nord? I’ve tried connecting my laptop via USB but the Nord isn’t playing any of the Mainstage sounds and I can’t find anything on the internet to help me with this. I would very much appreciate it. Thank you so much for all your great content!
Did you find your answer? I realize it’s been 7 months. Short version: connect you laptop with MainStage to a MIDI interface box via usb, and then connect the midi out from the Nord to the Midi in on the interface box.
Hi! I'm planning to get a Stage 3 but I'm between the HP76 and the Compact. I'd like to go with the Compact because of weight and price, but I don't know if the keybed is decent enough to play Piano and EP parts with sensitivity. How do you feel the keybed for that purpose? Cheers from Barcelona! :)
With the last program you've made, I noticed the frequency in Synth Section was adjusted to 1, but say if I change to another program and messed with the frequency knob, if I want to switch back to the previous program you've made, will the frequency stay at 1? Does messing with the frequency knob in other programs change the settings you have saved in your last example?
Hey there! In this example, the frequency knob value will revert back to the saved setting...so no, messing with any of the controls in a different program will not change those settings in any other program. Does that make sense?
Hi bro, sorry for my bad english, I have a question and I hope you can help me. How to layer two custom programs? I mean, I edited a piano and a pad sound but if I layer into a Live mode, one of them lost its effects, I hope you can understand my English 😂
Easy peasy - you'll layer the Royal Grand 3D piano voice with the Soft Pad 1 voice. Enable both the Piano and the Synth engines and dial in the volume of each to taste. You can do this in Live Mode and play around with things like filtering, EQ, or adding Reverb. Live mode will store your changes so you can keep going back to tweak things. Once you've found the sound you like, go back into Song mode and store the new program just as he's outlined in the video. Oh, here's a freebie that I learned today - use the Wheel (hold down Shift and hit the Wheel button) to adjust the gain/volume on the Soft Pad 1 synth voice - it's a LOT easier to use the wheel than fiddle with a dial when you're playing live. Good luck! j
You can't delete a program number. But if you want a blank sound in that program, then simply write over it with any of the blank programs at the end of your program list.

Where is the release for the Piano located if I wanted to make my release long/short?

Thanks! I use it as is and use Song Mode for live use where I need quick recall.

Never been this early to a video :)
Haha! 🥳🤩
@@DSoundman Awesome explanation and very useful for sure.
Thank you!
An intresting issue should be creating a splitted new program from an empty one
Left an organ per example right a piano or pad
Your content is really helpful! New NS3 owner here. Is there a way to skip over the empty bank slots while scrolling on the Nord?
Do you have a video that explains live mode?
Yes! Using Live Mode - NORD Stage 3 Compact

When you program a new setting and you use transpose, will that save as well?
Do you know how to make a piano sound similar to one Maverick city uses?
Hello, is there a drum kit in this device?
No...😕

i will be very grateful

Just one basic thing - how to DELETE a program (not write over) :) :D
You can't delete a program number. But if you want a blank sound in that program, then simply write over it with any of the blank programs at the end of your program list.
