so i just gotta toot a bugle here as an independent wet shaver and product reviewer. i have never talked to geofatboy nor have we ever communicated. this is my first post on any of his videos to my knowledge. i just ordered a Rockwell 6S from shavenation.com in the wee hours of tuesday morning this week. it was sent out that same day from near chicago. i live in north central illinois. 2 days later on thursday it was delivered (post office sent it down to hazelwood missouri to a sorting center then to my place which is standard procedure). I found the price the same as what every other place charges for the Rockwell 6S. I haven't used the razor yet but i am more than pleased with the speed shave nation and geofatboy operate and serve customers. When my rockwell arrived it was in a gift box that was shrink wrapped. that was put in a bag, which was then in turn put in a shipping box, which was then in turn put in a shipping envelope. So it was very well packed to say the least. I can't remember, but i believe it was delivered priority mail. It came in perfect condition, very quickly, and even came with a shave nation sticker which i didn't know i was going to get but will now proudly display somewhere where people will see.
If you're looking to buy any shaving supplies through the mail there's lots of places to go. But i am more than pleased to highly recommend shave nation to anyone for their stellar service.
thank you to geofatboy for making online shopping (something i hate) a little easier for me. From now on your website will be in my bookmarks of places to order from. Also thanks for all your videos which have really helped me (along with some other's youtube videos) to progress in my skill, and knowledge of wet shaving.
I'd like to add that this recommendation I'm writing was not solicited or requested by shave nation or geofatboy himself. Out of my own gumption I'm posting this to encourage anyone on the fence about ordering, to order because they will be satisfied with the service provided by shave nation.
thank you for reading this. and i hope it helps someone else and also the business of shave nation.

I recently purchased the 6S. It shaves beyond my expectations. I have had 0 cuts so far. I started on the #3 plate for first shave then tried plate #4 which seems to do best for me. Its nice to know I still have 2 higher settings I can use.

  • @jensebu78

I think they produce the plates 1/3 and not 1/2 , because they are selling the razor as Rockwell 2S too. It has only this plate in it. If they produce 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 they have to make the plate especially for the 2S.
I think that could be the reason...
    Thanks for the great Video!!!

😊 Thank you for your review. Shaving with the 6s in red for the very first time today. After Watching I realize where I may have made a mistake with this razor. On 2 days of growth my intention was to be very mild. Started on 1 and wasent cutting it so i moved to 2. I ended up with a little more than usaul razor burn when i shouldve moved to 3 the step up. It is confusing but the sequence on this razor is 132456. I think they had to do it this way due to the machineing and the spacing of the bars on either side and what was possoble to accomplish. Still a very nice razor and alot of other factors could have came into play. Enjoy your videos❤and thanks again.

The 1/3, 2/4, 5/6 configuration stems from the fact that their 2c series used 1/3 - it is a continuation of that standard, and allows for the company to use the 1/3 guard for either their 2c or 6c, and in respect of the 6s, just to continue with that established standard. With respect your gripe is a minor nitpick, whereas the standard they adopted was well thought out in many facets. Cheers.

This would have been my 2nd pick, but I opted to go for the Feather AS-D2 as my first safety razor - it really is a fine piece of art. The biggest difference was the slim profile of the head on the Feather for under the nose had me sold versus the Rockwell 6S' larger head.

  • @WormyLeWorm

Astras are also my blade of choice; nothing else has been as long-lasting and yet super sharp and still forgiving in my experience. Even shaving my whole body I end up replacing the blade only due to bacterial concerns rather than loss of sharpness unlike other esteemed blades like feather which never seemed to work too well or long on my skin or hair. 1/3 the cost with Astras too. Tempted to get one of these eventually... I upgraded from a merkur 23c to a Futur and really like how much closer of a shave I can get with it and don't think I'll ever look back from more aggressive razors now that I got used to it. Funny how immediately my 23c felt like it was so easy mode to use and so careful to my skin once I used the futur on 5/6 for a few days. I have very thick hair that's like hard needles, and also don't like spending so much time going over the same areas. With my 23c my neck always had stubble and I never knew it could get smooth.
I like that the Futur has less pieces than the Rockwell 6S, but I like that the 6S has knurling and the head makes it seem like it's easier to tell where the blade really is. I have trouble doing some precise shaving with the futur at times, and that's really tempting me to try out the 6S once I'm comfortable committing to the cost. Love the really wide gap/trough on the futur that makes it feel like I hardly have to rinse it as well. I get a lot more done more swiftly.
Both beautiful looking razors, but I think the 6S has a more classic look I adore. I just wonder how close it can get compared to the futur I'm growing used to.

18:30... Honestly I ended up getting the Rockwell one because of not having moving parts that can break over time where the only thing you risk breaking is the threads. Sure adjustable is more convenient than interchangeable but it also comes at the cost of more points in which the device can break and fail. Which yeah you would hope that companies have good enough quality to where that is a non issue, but with how easy knockoffs end up getting to places that should have good QC it is always a gamble unless you are buying direct from the manufacturer themselves and not a 3rd party retail store.

Hi Geo been watching your videos and enjoying them for a while now turned to double edge razors about 18 months ago and watched an older video of yours recently (de89)and had to reply having the same experience my go to razor being merkur 34hd I've also had a 37c slant couldn't get along with and even above the tie r1 to much chatter for me against the grain,my 34c was okay but was still searching and a couple of weeks ago ordered the muhle r89 same head as the de89,wow i can't believe the difference i know all the ymmv and all that but I've never had a razor that shaves so well, knife through butter comes to mind,it is just so smooth and efficient and a really nice after shave feeling,i just wasn't expecting it to be so good the head just seems so much better than the merkur and I can't see myself wanting to use anything else.Keep up the good work great videos regards Martin

I can't make sense of owning three plates to have six settings that just slightly slightly differ from each other. I can understand why one might want one of either the 3-1 plate or the 4-2 plate, as then you can get a medium-aggressive first pass and a mild second pass. I don't understand the 5-6 plate. Perhaps users of that option will prefer the 5 side or the 6 side and then stick to their preferred size. I don't know.
Geo, great video, and that is one badass-looking place where you're recording! XD

I actually don't agree. I've just ordered the 6C, and because I usually shave TWICE per day (chauffeur, long hours), I expect to use only one, mild, grade, for all passes, for all shaves.........when I'm working. When I'm NOT working, and I may go for days without shaving, I may then start off with a 5 or 6 for the first pass, moving to a milder grade for subsequent passes. I welcome the flexibility.

    • @gregsullivan7408

LOL!!!! Just got the 6C. Looks like grade 2, with WATER as the only lubricant, is going to work just fine. Yes - it's so mild, that water is all I need. Incredible!! (Grade 1 doesn't really do anything, even if I shave completely dry. Maybe if I let some growth develop....)

You really make shaving look so easy. Here I am over here getting one good shave out of every 5 with the Gillette razors. Kill me.

I dont have this razor (yet...). Regarding the numbering of the plates I see their logic probably was that if number 1 is too mild for you they suggest that try number 3 instead by turning the plate. So the logic is that it is more reasonable to move from 1 to 3 than from 1 to 2. Makes sense? Yes, no, meaby :)

Is this razor more EFFICIENT at removing those really annoying tough areas than the R41 is? It would've been good to see how the razor performs at the plates below 5/6 when shaving against the grain, for a better perspective.

The numbers are in a logical order...
    R1: 0.008" (0.20 mm)
    R2: 0.014" (0.35 mm)
    R3: 0.019" (0.48 mm)
    R4: 0.024" (0.61 mm)
    R5: 0.027" (0.69 mm)
    R6: 0.031" (0.79 mm)

It's the blade gap. Distance from the blade to bottom guard.

Interesting because compared to the Rex Ambassador, it’s glade gap would be the equivalent of having plates R2 to R13

Thanks Geo for another great video, been in the market for a new razor to finally step up from my DE89. Did look at the R41 as I sometimes go a week In between shaves, even thought about treating myself to a ATT but the 6S looks like a good choice. Being able to change the aggressiveness to suit the situation. Think I have found the winner!!

Hey Geo. I was wondering if you would/could do a video about all of your absolute favorite products of each shaving necessity (DE razors, safety razors, straight razors, etc.) I recall from a previous video that the TOBS sandalwood is a favorite of yours and I would be lying if I said that knowing that didn't affect my decision to buy some recently. A video like that would be helpful for people getting back into legitimate shaving to use as a baseline. Thank you!!

6s is a killer deal IMO. The Rockwell blades are ok ..for shaving the back of the neck but that's about it. Loaded with a Nacet SS, it's about as good as it gets.

It is in a word horrible. I bought it in December 2015 and tried all settings with many different blades. Always a very poor shave. Don't waste $100 on this dinosaur It weighs too much and it is impossible to get a close shave under ones nose. Poorly designed and built
