Installing electric trailer brakes

- Replaced the old electric brake assemblies and hubs, total cost $164.96 from eTrailer.com.
Installing electric brakes simply requires two wires in series to both hubs. One is positive the other goes to the ground (negative) on your 7-pin connector. You need a brake controller installed in your tow vehicle and of course a 7-pin receptacle.
It doesn't matter which wire is positive or negative to the brake.
Be sure to put the brake assemblies on the correct side! They should be labelled but the arm that holds the electromagnetic brake should always face the front of the trailer. - Развлечения
Nice straightforward instructions without all the fluff! thank you.
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you sir!
Thank you SO MUCH for not making this a 20 minute video!
That’s great I’m getting ready to do what you just showed me thanks
Excellent video thanks.
Short and sweet. Thanks
That stock wiring that the manufacturer installed inside the axle was nuts. I would have clipped wiring where it comes out of the axle and installed new wiring for the brakes. Otherwise nice video.
As an engineer I take offense. I would have made it a lot harder.
Does it matter which wire goes together at the brake
Almost a awesome video ... wish you went into more detail on the bearings and how you made sure to order the correct new ones the drums as well ... and didn't really explain the wiring of the trailer ... 🙄
When you order new brake assembly with new hubs they come with new bearings, and the electric doesent really matter if + or - are hooked up "backwards" they just activate a magnet so it works either way
Save yourself the gloves next time. Put the grease and the bearings in a zip lock bag and then squeeze them.
Great video mate.my problem is I've just rewired my trailer and one wheel is locking on when I lightly break my vehicle? I don't have a brake controller fitted to vehicle.any help asap much appreciated if you know as its due for rego in two days. Thanks in advance. Wayne.
Assuming you've adjusted the star wheel to back off that brake? I've never heard of trailer brakes without a controller. Does your hitch have a built in controller?
so the negative is the middle prong in the harness when you probed it at the end?
Just get non insulated crimp connectors and put shrink tube over it lol
Easy enough. I’m considering pulling the hydraulic brakes out of my 97 U-Haul trailer I own. Wonder if the back plate take a lot to switch over? Anybody here done it?
tandem axle trailer do i need both axles to have brakes? so all 4 wheels or just 2?
Some states, like Illinois, do require brakes on both axles.
How much you did You pay for those brakes?

Do all axles come with the electric wire for the electric brakes?
I don't know, I have older trailers where the brake wires are just zip tied to the outside of the axle but most have holes to run the wires through.
@@TheFritz423 .for the cable, can it be directly connected to the battery in the vehicle and add a switch to turn it on or off? so no need to add controller
@@mr.eervianlesmana9263 If you had a switch it would turn brakes full on if connected to 12 volts. If you mean a switch on the trailer side to disable brakes you could but I'd be worried about liability.
@@TheFritz423 .the switch I mean is the switch I added myself
You could add a switch but you also need to add a potentiometer to it as well so you can adjust the voltage going to them so there not on full blast when you turn them on
