Her voice is so unique and you can tell her artistry is off the charts. Their styles meld so well.
The pronunciation of "yoon" in her name Soyoon is the same as it is in Yoongi's name. And "So" is similar to the English word "so."
In an interview with Vogue Korea, Soyoon explained that "Smoke Sprite" refers to an effect in comics where people disappear in a puff of smoke while exploding like a bomb. She wanted to express the feeling of deja vu she feels while standing on the boundary of dreams, fantasy and reality.
Soyoon is the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the rock band Se So Neon, which means "new kids" (like BTS/Bangtan Sonyeondan, they also have "sonyeon" in their name, just spelled differently and used in a gender-neutral context).
Soyoon formed Se So Neon in 2016 at the age of 18. RM has been sharing the band's music on social media since 2017, the year the band debuted.
In 2018, Se So Neon won the awards for Rookie of the Year and Best Rock Song at the Korean Music Awards.
In 2019 Soyoon presented BTS with the Song of the Year Award at the Korean Music Awards and admitted that her heart was pounding when BTS walked on stage but she had to look cool and calm because she's a rock musician 😅
In 2022 Soyoon attended J-Hope's Jack in the Box listening party and got pics with J-Hope and Jimin. Also that same year RM posted a photo on Instagram of him watching Se So Neon perform at the Seoul Jazz Festival and the bassist Hyunjin got excited and commented "Hyung it's me" because he was on stage in RM's photo 😆
Soyoon also provided backing vocals on RM's song Still Life. After Indigo was released, Soyoon posted a photo on her Instagram story of RM in her studio, with her holding an autographed copy of the Indigo album that was addressed to her 💜

I love how RM can be bigger than life persona but he enhances the main artist ...he doesn't take over...love his respect. On his own album he doesn't think twice to let his feature artist to shine through....RM is one cool dude who loves his music...not love himself only.
The song is fantastic and she is excellent too. I finished listening to this song and immediately started to listen to her new album and I was not disappointed. RM's ability to collab with artists that are so unique and talented never stop surprising me. I truly enjoy the way he has been pushing himself during his solo career. The way he has been experimenting with new sounds, genres, and artists it's a true testament to how great of an artist he is.
I was actually a fan of SE SO NEON before I became ARMY. Since most of my music taste was based on rock music, I instantly fell for her voice and absolutly loved watching her play guitar. Now that I've been ARMY and have RM work with her has been pure bliss for me!!!! I love Namjoon's voice, he can do whatever he sets his mind into, just like the rest of the guys and that makes me feel incredibly proud of them 💜

I have gone back to that harmony so many times. So so freaking good! I’m obsessed with this song and her voice. Never heard of her before, but she is so good! Of course RM is President and I was mesmerized by his harmony as well! So good!
She is so f**king cool. I forgot that RM should feature in the song because I was so mezmerised by the song and the MV. And, when he came in and alluded some se*ual stuff ...wauh Daddy Namjoon OMG.
This was so good !. They matched so perfectly that I really believed in the "story". I love that RM does these things at the moment - very artistic and mature stuff ( like his feat. On Sexy Nukim ). It suits him and I can't wait where he goes from here. By the way check out the track and MV Bad from the same album as this on. It is really good and sensual too. I think your Wife will love that piece as well. Actually check out her whole album. ( Perhaps not with us but by your own ) it is really good and I hope the best for her.
I have enjoyed all his collabs with female artists as his voice seems to compliment theirs so well. My favorite is Winter Flower.

the sound and production of this song was amazing, the feel and emotion was great. i have never heard this combination of beats all combined together in one song before. the bts members are on another level.
Rm is good at discovering rare talent he then collaborate with them and brings the artist to life. he did it with balming tiger too. J-hope chooses people he vibe with and people who is already well known on their own. Suga do all kinds of music and collabs so i feel like his new album will be a wildcard. i think he will have songs where he sings only. and maybe many features and he might play instruments live too he has been practicing like crazy. please watch his birthday live where the plays guitar and sings it was mind blowing
RM only collabs with people he wants to work with as humans. It’s not to overshadow or outdo them but he genuinely considers himself to be a colleague.
This is an extremely unique and fantastic song. The combination of her & RM is such a breakthrough. I have a wide range of love for all types of music from BTS to The Eagles to Whitney Houston to Incubus to J. Cole. Having an appreciation of music in general allows me to enjoy all types of music, which I consider a gift. To me, RM has shown so much depth from his features to INDIGO. I love that he is constantly breaking the "walls" of what some fans want him or BTS to stay in. I'm glad they're pursuing the music that inspires them and makes them feel alive! Loved this song 🎵 ❤️
I love her sound!! The video is so creative and filled with thought provoking visuals. I feel like RM lent part of his art collection to the artistic directors. 😂. I love that RM is working with so many different people and just exploring music. We are lucky to be introduced to them and I feel chapter 2 is going to help all members grow as people and artists. Omg I recently watched an interview she did. She met RM for the first time in person when he was still working on his album Indigo. She shared this song with Rm before there was any lyrics. Rm told her that he loved it. And she just randomly asked if he wanted to collab with her. As you can see, he said yes. They wrote the lyrics for this song together. The interview is on the daebaek show with Eric Nam on RUclips if you want to watch.they talk about how she started in music,her journey and this song.
What I like is the artistry & how Namjoon respects and just melds in as he did w/ Sexy Nukim.

I'm so happy that reactors are liking So YoON. She's one of my faves. I'd recommend anything from SE SO NEON honestly. Wave is a classic, long dream, or anything on the nonadaptation album. Then SO! YoON!'s last album had some great tracks in there. The title track was sick, and there is great collaborations in there, special mention to FNTSY which I think it a sure hit for any music listener.
So Yoon is a genius electric guitarist. After years of performing with her band, her vocals have come to be styled to compliment the guitarwork rather than the other way around.
You NEED to do reviews on RM's other collabs with women. With Yoonha "Winter Flower" and "Umbrella" from the Duet Song Festival. Amazing collabs.
So!YoON! has some great solo music and smoke sprite is off her newest album. She's also the lead singer of an indie rock band called SE SO NEON and they have fantastic tunes as well. Both her solo music and her band are very much worth checking out 💕👍

I will be interested in what impression the song makes on Jodie - if there's anything I have reservations with, it will be with some of the lyrics that have the tinge of an abusive relationship. Or is it just their attempt at edgy love?

Unfortunately her voice is just at that point that hits me painfully. And I mean physical pain. Like a knife in the ear.
I've been so spoiled with BTS. They hit notes that, with any other artist, would be painful. But with BTS it isn't. With BTS, the most I've ever gotten is a note gently brushing against my ear. They must have an unusual, and incredible, technique for reaching those notes - because they never even cause me any discomfort, let alone pain.💜🤗

I get it. It feels very sharp (for lack of a better word- I’m not a musician, just a listener). I watched the MV right when I woke up and it felt like a lot, but was better the next couple of times.
She’s obviously super artistic and her style is very unique. I definitely see the appeal and how RM would connect to her art.
You listened and gave it a try, that's what matters. Not every song or artist is going to appeal to everybody. Her sound is kinda sharp (not off key, I mean sharp like something pointy or rough) in a really unusual way. Personally, I love it and am so excited to listen to more of her music. But I can completely understand why someone else may not find it appealing.
Same :( I always try to support their endeavors but I don't get how so many people are loving her voice. It's kinda like how Jimin sings in a high pitch but he sounds angelic most of the time, here it sounds like she's straining. Maybe she's emoting how she got stabbed with that arrow? Idk, I thought I was the only one. Maybe you're the only one brave enough to say it. Still supporting it though.
Hi Leah, any sound does have a different effect depending on the receiver's compatibility with the sound. The BTS vocalists have voices that are resonant even in the high notes, that's why we love them and can really get into the feel of the music. Soyoon has a lovely voice that is quite penetrating (strident, the less appreciative would probably say) and suits passionate, edgy expression. It's a matter of personal taste and what you like listening to. At least you listened and that's more than OK. Remember that John is a metal vocalist - he's used to sharper sounds than this, ha, ha, ha. I liked this song for the different aspect of RM's talent that is on show here but personally, I will not be seeking out any of SoYoon's music myself.

Btw, John, of course I watch your reactions first regardless of who else is reacting to this song. I count on the fingers of one hand the reactors that have me feeling that I learned something. I've watched quite a few reactions now and know reasonably well which ones will point out something, depending on their own professional or personal experience, to enhance my appreciation of the video.
