Fantastic vid there Lewis. Can’t believe I’ve just watched it. Brought back memories, as I used to fish the Lyn in the early 80’s. Some good size salmon and STs back then. Delighted to see the river again after so many years. I’ve been meaning to return. Those brownies are something else. Well done 👏🏼

One of my favourite fishing videos in years!! I've spent so many days in the Lyn valley as a kid and taking my kids there, just heaven! Lynmouth a great spot too. Loving some of the methods with a nymphing rod, genius. Can't wait to get up there again. Wow, those wild fish are just stunning! Nice work boys

what a belter of a sea trout
In the early 60's you could walk across this river on the backs of the salmon sadly all but gone now , following the river all the way up to malmsmead is a sublime walk and wonderful fishing , you can get a permit , pint and great lunch at the Rockford Inn by the waterside.........this should be on everyones bucket list.
It truly is a great river.
I caught my first sea trout this year on the river till in Northumberland caught it on a spoon as the river was in flood hope to go there next may and try some fly fishing

We tend to take it for granted now but I remember first seeing this method of fishing in Asturias Northern Spain over 25 yrs ago.

Thankyou for this video, i fish the lyn once a week, and have persevered with the fly rod on the browns, so good to see a good angler showing the way, ive been on the dry dropper recently and its a very productive method.
your leader set up is very intersting, as ive been having much more fly line out, so that is a great idea.
Lastly what you said about riffles and shallower water ive found by trial and error to be exactly true, the deep pools are often a void of fish, i almost avoid them now, but who can resist a drift through the deep stuff!

Superb stuff and what an ending with those two nice browns and cracking sea trout. Feels so good when you know you fished well and got one to take. Has a considerable run of Salmon in May/ June but the times I’ve been and seen fresh silver fish dead within a day maybe down to UDN is so upsetting.
Never good seeing dead fish floating around the river.
@@techsecmedia seriously are you just kidding or mistook my meaning?
I’m not talking about salmon before spawning, rather Salmon that have completed their life’s journey? Atlantic Salmon are a species that spawn and die and it’s vitally important they die on the redds as it provides years of nutrition for their offspring and who knows what other benefits for the river itself. Admittedly some can survive as kelts and return as repeat spawners but this is a rare thing.
Maybe it’s the C&R mentality of not wanting to see any harm to these fish which is a mute point in itself. Just to wrap do you know they’ve been using the legs of deer in some rivers to try and replicate the nutrients from dead salmon.
But trust me on this please? I’m sure Iain would agree that to see lots of dead and dying salmon at the end of their journey is absolutely a good thing and to think otherwise is going against millions of years of adaptation.

Re UDN I take it you’re from the Westcountry? I love the river Lyn on Exmoor and for a small river it gets a sizeable run of beautiful late spring Salmon in May/June. I’ve been twice at this time and have seen the river bed littered with dead, fresh silver salmon which has caused the EA to shut it down before. I don’t know if it’s UDN but it’s something they bring in from the sea as they dead within a day, so sad to see.
I’m sure that Atlantic salmon don’t die after spawning; they migrate back to the sea as kelts to recover.

Much more enjoyable with the voice over. Just let the fisherman throw his orange tag endlessly into fast water. Stunning setting and beautifully shot though.

I looked at the video several times more but was unable to find what rod length and aftm the rod is that Lewis is using, any info ?
