- How to Rip & Convert Video CD File aka MPEGAV MPEG 1 VCD .DAT File to MP4
Video CD mpeg one files with prevalent in the 1990s to early 2000s and usually burn onto a cd or data cd disc and trying to digitize to a modern format that can be played on modern files etc. can be challenging. There are multiple ways of doing it, but Phil at Got Memories shows you one way. If you’d like to get a quote, please go to Gotmemories.com
In the past when I used VCDs, just renaming the .DAT to .MPEG worked, then you convert that to MPEG4. As long as it it not an SVCD, it should work. But I have not tried it in over 15 years.
Not always 100% that.
that worked for me too on one of the 2 CDs.. one will not work for some reason. ugh
worked for me as well
@@gotmemories I used to make and sell Video CDs on eBay. They are just MPEG1 authored into VCD format. It isn't some "weird, obscure" format. It was extremely common 20 years ago. VCD movies for the CDI and Playstation VCD player expansion used it. You can literally copy the DAT files to a hard drive and change the extension to MPG and they will play (assuming it is a standard VCD and doesn't have special programming).
That all being said, the last releases of VCD movies that were sold about 10 years ago apparently have copy protection, which could be an issue for removing the files. That didn't exist on VCDs when I made and sold them.
Yes! VLC is a resource but isky is way better imo.
