Awsome video guys, I took the Hangner drill at the range, had a great practice..love simple mental images..just the idea of swinging the clubface, and not the clubshaft the clubface...great! thanks guys
That was a fantastic presentation. I really liked the way you broke down the three parts of the swing. You have helped me immensely, since I have found your channel.
Your swing centering vid and the view of how the hips work from a top view help me the most. Then keeping my angles and upper body moves helped me kill my 3-wood.Thanks Guys have a great Christmas holiday.
I should have started this from what was first and I don't know when that was. But now I have something to work on that will help me with my MANY problems. I will have a club with a hanger taped to it. I have a problem with the short irons, I pull a lot of my shots. I thought it was over the top, but it was my turning my left hand too much to the left through the ball. I WILL be working a lot with the hanger drill. THANK YOU.

He had me have the hanger about 20-30 degrees open so that the hanger wouldn't touch my left forearm till the club was parallel to the ground keeping my right palm 45 degrees down.Great post

Just found your videos and really like this one......However, am confused about a segment of the release. If you keep the coat hanger on the left forearm that is a rotational movement..... how can that relate to the "throwing" motion that you mentioned earlier?? Most important would be coat hanger on left arm on the downswing...for Hogan was cupped at the top, but not so into the impact area.. Really good input from you guys. Thanks!!
Great content guys, really enjoying the technical info from your videos. Do you have any advice on swinging under pressure? My body often freezes causing some wild over the top arm swings and poor results.

It's very difficult to hack performing better under the gun without putting yourself under the gun more often. Do you have a way of triggering your stress/pressure levels?
Stick to your pre-shot routine :) helps trick your mind/body that it’s just another shot. If you notice any difference in routine, step away. And remember you always hit your best shots when you decide and commit.
Also try some drills on the range - give a scenario like I have 165 yards and need a par to win, there’s a right pin and a bunker right. Do your routine and commit to hitting the left side of the green. You’d be amazed how much pressure you can simulate on the range.
You guys are truly amazing!! Love how you keep a simple concept SIMPLE. Please continue to keep it real, and in a language that is much easier to grasp than TGM!! Keep up the amazing work, and a sincere thank you to both of you gents...
Great video guys , you 2 are so ahead with your instruction with gears and pressure mats etc , but love the simplicity of your drills and feedback motions .
Another brilliant piece of tuition, together with some excellent drills. I seem to able to pivot perfectly with either a club or alignment stick across my chest. However, as soon as I put a club in my hands, the whole movement forward collapses with most of my shots going out left. Do you have anything in your archive that will help me to move my virtual spine forward during the downswing? Please keep up the great work 😀
It helps a lot of golfers to focus on the left shoulder (for a righty) staying down longer in the downswing. If it pops up early, the spine most often falls back and away from the target.
I am a new subscriber and I love your videos. I am a left handed golfer could you think of us lefties when you make your videos and are explaining your drills. Thanks!
1. Thanks for being a subscriber! 2. We love lefties😊 In fact, two of our tour pros are lefties. Our descriptions are largely based on conversations with them and we'd love to get you feedback on it... They say all the time to just explain it in righty terms and we'll (the players) will adjust it to fit our left-handed swings. Sighting just being used to living in a right-hand dominated world it's easier for them to make the conversion than it is for us to try to be ambi-lingual (if that's even a word).
It is true that as a lefty I can just make adjustments, but instead of a phrase like (shifting your weight onto your left leg) how about shifting your weight on to your front leg? I hope I'm not being to picky? I am a hacker wanting to be a player, watching your videos has helped me understand why I am a hacker of the golf ball. By watching your golf instructional videos I hope to rethink and rebuild my golf swing.
the motion I was referencing is from another video you did on "right wrist angles" where you talk about not wanting to hold the angle in the right wrist thru impact . If this action is used then the left wrist can't stay flat /rotating but instead starts to "bend" back after impact as the right wrist is throwing. It can't be both......which one are we supposed to work on???? thanks, Gary
The answer is BOTH because both of those do in fact happen, but the specific answer for you is which of those is an issue for you? That would be the first of those two I'd focus on. What's difficult to wrap the head around, at least it was for me, is knowing that the wrists don't bend at a 1:1 ratio. Meaning, if the right wrist is bending one direction, the left wrist has to bend the same amount in the opposite direction. The wrists do indeed bend and flex at different rates and times from one another in the swing.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks for the reply.....much appreciated....I certainly have the "throw" portion down pretty good .... gave up on trying to keep the left wrist flat as I did not think it was possible to do both. Will give it some more thought and try to figure it out. Thanks for your help. Gary
I just started AMG about 2 weeks ago. I’ve taken lessons for over 30 years from many qualified pros. Your teaching methods are just amazing. I was a 7 handicap many years ago but after back surgeries, hip replacement, arthritic shoulder and knee problems plus cancer, I’m now an 18. I’ve worked hard on your teaching and have really felt better about my swing than I have in years. I played with my long time golf buddy today and he could not believe how much more distance and accuracy I have now. I was really surprised by how much ball my striking improved with less effort. Now that I’m retired I can spend a lot of time working with your program. I ordered the Live Pro and can’t wait to get into that. I took 10 stokes off my score today with a less than stellar short game. Thank you both. Cody
New subscriber, first video to watch.. baseball player here. The pivot is the hardest thing to as a ball player. We get our power from loading back.. haha. Man I love this game called golf.
@athleticmotiongolf Is the ”phace” drill possible to do with driver? I have combine scores of around 73-78 and my driver is my weakest link. And i can see that my clubface are closed at the top and strong going back.
Great video Mike, Shaun. Can I ask you, if you had a young golfer who took the club too far inside but hit the ball well, (I'm thinking Bruce Leitzke) how would you work with them, and how would this drill be used then?
@@justjames1111 yeah, he's definitely strong enough now to start moving out of some of those typical junior swing moves. The reason it'll be beneficial for him is because to continue to get better he'll need to be getter at off-speed and 3/4 shots. The inconsistency and difficulty of those shots go way up when the club is out of position like that early.
@@justjames1111 We have the approach of only trying to change something if it helps to minimize the player's trouble shot. Not big fans of making a change to fit a model or preference because of the look.
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. That is something I learned in a previous job in another industry, but I feel that it can easily transfer to these practice drills. hi A M G. John B from Toronto canada. its too cold to golf now so I set up a hitting station as use a 8 iron with the hanger training aid attached at times. I hit a rubber golf ball cut down to a1/4 inch sliver. so zero damage other than I hit the ceiling on follow through. leaves a mark. no damage. also mirror with lots of lines drawn on it. mainly I watch one of your videos and try to copy the pro. its funny when I first started I did almost all of the am mistakes. the indoor dome near me closed. land way to valuable in Toronto. so I don't know exactly what ball is doing ? the ( ball). hits the wall so hard now its been a crazy improvement in a month. golfed for 25 years. have scored less than par a few times in past but average plus 5. any ideas how I could understand where ball goes until spring ? a very cold golfer.
Great stuff as always. One thing that would be interesting is we see more and more pros with much slower backswings, not following the historic 3:1 ratio (Hideki Matsuyama for one), and then an extended pause at the top. Can you guys analyze one of those swings to show what’s actually going on in that transition? I’ve been trying and trying to get to a 3:1 ratio swing and don’t find it comfortable at all. Having had both hips replaced and a dicey back, I find the slower, more deliberate backswing less stressful on my body, but would like to learn what pros are doing in those slower back swings.
In the pivot section I like the reference to winding up like a coil from the bottom up. I may have missed it in the downswing part. Does the downswing unwind from the bottom up also? Steve
Hi guys my reference point is imagining my right thumb pointing to one o’clock to an imaginary clock face behind me - it’s easy to look at -keep up the great instruction
Gentlemen, could you clarify the pivot as far as shifting and turning?. On this video you say to shift and turn simultaneously. I saw a video, don’t remember which one, where Shaun broke the swing down to shift turn shift turn. I am guessing that the shift and turn are pretty much happening at the same time seeing we only have .25 seconds to make a downswing.? Also, the hanger. Should the hanger be offset slightly on the grip or does it lay straight up and down?
Since I move my left shoulder back right off the bat I will work on not turning at all so I get some Elevation in my arms. This is the best pivot video on RUclips. Thanks
Question please; If I’m to take the club up the front of the noodle then shouldn’t I be coming down behind it? I’m referring to shallowing the club. I feel if I do this drill it will force me to go OTT to avoid hitting the noodle.
If you swing the club up and down that plane line, you are shallow. OTT would be if the club came down over that plane line. If you are worried about OTT then place another noodle outside the one in the video creating a corridor to swing down. But coming down above that noodle is NOT OTT👍
Do you think that there are different type of releases that should match upright vs flatter swings like a forearm roll vs a wrist slap type release with no roll or hinge and hold? Im Confused.
You guys are AWESOME!!!!! I'm an instructor in an Academy down in South Florida, you guys have made me better with my diagnostic teaching and prescribing correct drills. Keep it coming guys!!!
What should we be thinking about in the back swing to control swing plane? Assuming that your grip, setup, and pivot are good, how do you control the plane of the back swing? Is it primarily through forearm rotation?
I think that's a more complicated way to go about it... get yourself in front of a mirror and make an on plane backswing to left arm parallel. What did you need to do to make that happen? That would be your answer 😉
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thank you for your reply. Makes sense, I guess it's like shoes, no one size for all. I wonder if a product like live view would be beneficial for this?
You summed up my problem early in the video. Too much information from youtube! Information overload, Paralysis by Analysis. Thanks for the great content.
So I set up the noodle workstation and used my 7 iron and got comfortable with the release of the club going up the plane on the front side implementing a sound pivot and centering and release that tracked nicely up the front side I then grabbed my driver and reset the workstation to accommodate the driver lie angle I tell you this was awkward at best as images of Matt Kuchar began to pop into my head I have mirrors on both sides to actually see my body positions relative to the swing plane noodles This simply feels unnatural and simply hard to get anything on the swing while tracking this plane with the driver I am a senior player and an accomplished athlete and have consistently shot good scores but wish to understand why with the driver this feels so dang flat and awkward I live on a farm and have all the room in the world to practice all the golf shots and desire to take a good action into my senior years that is repeatable and will not promote injury to my body Thanks so much Love what you do especially the gears elements they are awesome use of todays technology for golf improvement
Dear, excuse my English I am from Argentina and I am using the translator. The mind tells the body how to move. Therefore, what is the first movement that the mind tells you to execute in the donswing? I think that there is the great fault of all mortals. Thank you . You guys are great.
One thing I struggle with is, the shift forward, how do you not go "offsides" as they call it and beyond the ball? i feel like i need to hang back with my upper body, otherwise i fall forward.
That's why it's so important to get over there early so you can stop it early in the downswing. If you're not over there early enough, you'll never have a chance of stopping it in time and be left with a slide through impact. Check out our 2 sliding videos for really good visuals of how it's done👍
Thru investigating how motor skills are most effectively learnt at higher levels of skills already learned, they have found that external cues are must more efficient than using internal cues to improve at a faster pace.
John Toronto. my bad. thanks. you have changed my game way more than golf tech did allow they got me down to a plus 5. I went years ago so maybe they use more technology now. don't know.
It might sound crazy and hard to belive , with 3 trillion golf videos I've never heard the golf swing talked about like this....I keep watching and changing my swing because I'm like is it a turn ,is it a coil... I always get in trouble with how do u turn and stay on the target line as long as they say ....this makes a lot of since

Since I move my left shoulder back right off the bat I will work on not turning at all so I get some Elevation in my arms. This is the best pivot video on RUclips. Thanks
Michael Shevlin great let us know how it goes👊

Perfect practice points!
🙏👊
Good job guys 👍🏼👍🏼
Marco Costello 👊🙏🏻
Question please; If I’m to take the club up the front of the noodle then shouldn’t I be coming down behind it? I’m referring to shallowing the club. I feel if I do this drill it will force me to go OTT to avoid hitting the noodle.
If you swing the club up and down that plane line, you are shallow. OTT would be if the club came down over that plane line. If you are worried about OTT then place another noodle outside the one in the video creating a corridor to swing down. But coming down above that noodle is NOT OTT👍
Wish I could of studied this 5 years ago,so good. I want one of those navy blue amg hats, nice
Great video 🤙🏾
I am right arm dominate but play left handed. How much power comes from the trail side. I have been taught to let it just ride?
they both have to be involved.
Do you think that there are different type of releases that should match upright vs flatter swings like a forearm roll vs a wrist slap type release with no roll or hinge and hold? Im Confused.
J, are you trying to make 1 of these simple keys more complicated???😊
Have you tried the hanger drill yet?
14:55-15:10 is comedy gold. So true and so funny.
Only funny cause it's true😊
Yes, it would!

this is a good one.
Thank Steve👊
You summed up my problem early in the video. Too much information from youtube! Information overload, Paralysis by Analysis. Thanks for the great content.
Yessir, self-diagnosis can be tricky.
Have you done a video on side bend in the swing?
Have you seen the perfect upper and lower body vids yet?
Athletic Motion Golf no I haven’t
great tutorial. Cheers.
Face with a ‘P’. Nailed it.
😊 Thanks for watching👊
Great video
Just excellent!
Thanks brother!
So I set up the noodle workstation and used my 7 iron and got comfortable with the release of the club going up the plane on the front side implementing a sound pivot and centering and release that tracked nicely up the front side
I then grabbed my driver and reset the workstation to accommodate the driver lie angle
I tell you this was awkward at best as images of Matt Kuchar began to pop into my head
I have mirrors on both sides to actually see my body positions relative to the swing plane noodles
This simply feels unnatural and simply hard to get anything on the swing while tracking this plane with the driver
I am a senior player and an accomplished athlete and have consistently shot good scores but wish to understand why with the driver this feels so dang flat and awkward
I live on a farm and have all the room in the world to practice all the golf shots and desire to take a good action into my senior years that is repeatable and will not promote injury to my body
Thanks so much
Love what you do especially the gears elements they are awesome use of todays technology for golf improvement
I am one of those golfers scouring you tube every night. What do you think of pre setting, pre loading your left side?
Not a big fan of that. You'll be missing out on some cool speed generation if you do.
what song is on your intro of videos.
Don't recall the name, I'll have to find out for you
Dear, excuse my English I am from Argentina and I am using the translator.
The mind tells the body how to move.
Therefore, what is the first movement that the mind tells you to execute in the donswing? I think that there is the great fault of all mortals.
Thank you .
You guys are great.
I like PGA - Posture, Grip, and Alignment
Yessir
Is Shaun related to Tim Heidecker from Tim&Eric? They look and talk so alike :D
I need to know exactly how to set this up for people please ❤️🙏🏻
Which part bud?
The distance between the two structures please
“Practice without feedback is just exercise”. These words should be written above every driving range in America
haha yes it should👊
Phreaking Phucking Phenomenal!
Language
I take it the plane isn’t as upright with longer clubs, eg driver??
Correct👍
some videos are just too intensive. this one, after setup is all that's needed. thnx, steve
Nice, simple filosofy.
Or, Pretty Phair Philosophy.
Now that's phunny😁
Thru investigating how motor skills are most effectively learnt at higher levels of skills already learned, they have found that external cues are must more efficient than using internal cues to improve at a faster pace.
John Toronto. my bad. thanks. you have changed my game way more than golf tech did allow they got me down to a plus 5. I went years ago so maybe they use more technology now. don't know.
Phunny!
Plane, Pivot and Pface. LOL
Shaun. You just taped the coat hanger to the club or is that a training aid?
It's a training aid that is taped to the grip, but a regular hanger taped to it works just fine too.
what is the name of the training aid?
How about SWINGYDE - TRAINING AID?
That's a good one too. We just wanted to offer a way to do it by just going to the closet😊
It might sound crazy and hard to belive , with 3 trillion golf videos I've never heard the golf swing talked about like this....I keep watching and changing my swing because I'm like is it a turn ,is it a coil... I always get in trouble with how do u turn and stay on the target line as long as they say ....this makes a lot of since
3 P's Plane, pivot, and Phace.
LOLz. I wrote that before the end.
Product, place, promotion... now wait, that was the marketing mantra.
Practice, practice, practice.
Pface, like Pfister
Thanks for the tips
Phabulous
😁
I usually am worried about hitting it phat. But when I don't the phace is usually open 😂
