I really like that Tiago shows his audience how he ACTUALLY manages his to-dos (instead of making a generic to-do list). That personalized approach makes it so much easier to apply to my own productivity system.
"The context that matters more is my state of mind." - Beautifully articulated.
Make the "weekly review" Sticky Note a repeating Project inside Things itself!
As someone who’s getting back to structured GTD and exploring a Things, it’s great to see examples of others’ setups. Thanks for this!
Love some of the things he is saying here. The idea that a todo app should be not clever and more stable and consistent. And the (only seemingly) busy way he has organised his work. The less spread out way of organising. Face it, if you are going to do something, you will do it anyway. After seeing this I have dropped the Areas thing altogether and gone just a tad more micro. Kind of a mind-state based separation of activities. Of course it’s always a bit of a work in progress. Thanks Francesco.
Thank you so much for this video. I have been a Things user for years but never felt I was using it effectively. From this video, and your conversation with Tiago, my problem is my setup. I’ve watched a number of videos about Things and other productivity apps. This, by far, is the best I’ve seen thus far. Thank you again.
Ditto
I learned a new shortcut today! Nice
It doesn't get any better than TIAGO
I loved this! Thanks for putting this together Francesco. Two questions I wish were answered:
* what is Tiago's daily ritual with GTD/Things to keep everything fresh?
* If he doesn't put his projects under Areas, what does he use areas for? Do loose, non-project tasks go there?
I will quote Tiago: "...An area of responsibility is “a sphere of activity with a standard to be maintained over time.”
Examples include: Health; Finances, Professional Development; Travel; Hobbies; Friends; Apartment; Car; Productivity; Direct reports;..."
Glad you did Daniel, yes, I loved it too! More than happy to bring Tiago on again in a few months to talk on more detail maybe?
Thanks for jumping in Eduardo 😊😊😊
Which are the apps you are using
This is a brilliant set of videos. It couldn’t be more appropriately published as I am desperately trying to learn GTD and Things 3 to set out and plan my MSc dissertation. Due date: 3rd Jan 2020, so any student/study videos that you may be considering, here’s s a reason to move them out of the someday section ;-) he he. Thanks for all the videos!!! A second brain is seriously required (ADHD) means the executive functioning of my first one isn’t up to much, and argument can’t be made for a third ;-)
Ah, this is great to hear. I'm looking for feedback on this series, as we might do this again!
I will try to get some more GTD content in in the next few weeks, so you can hit your deadline? ;) But remember, equally stay away from RUclips aha ;)
Francesco :-)
@@keepproductive Top man, putting my productivity over your business ha ha. Thanks mate. Are you planning any more events in London?
Incredible! As a Things user, I still got a lot of ideas on how to tweak my setup a little bit better.
Thanks Anthony :-) Legend
Didn't know Elon musk uses things3
😂
ACCURATE
Does he?
Thanks!
I am wondering: how is Tiago`s process to review his medium priority? Any ideas?
This tag view under the Anytime view - it’s only on the desktop app?
How did he create subtags within "Priority"?
absolutely agree with dark elon. ive stopped using apps simply because of devs changing it too much. the apps im most loyal to are the ones that have stayed relatively the same throughout the years.
Only thing that drives me from Things is lack of Windows app. I use Todoist on my iPhone, MacBook, iPad, and Windows PC for work. If Things 4 goes monthly sub with a web app version as well then I’m gonna be all in on it because it UI is far superior when compared to Todoist
The control>option>space bar doesn't bring up that quick entry box. Control>space bar works tho.
Are you using Firefox? It doesn't work for Firefox but works for Chrome and Safari and Apple apps. It's an Apple script, apparently.
@@STWHA_ I'm not getting it either, even on Safari or Apple Mail.
Actually, Tiago said control>option>space bar would capture an email or URL you were on. However, it doesn't work on my MBP.
"Control/Option/Spacebar is not working on my mac?
me too
@@tramdongoc8346 Go to Things Preferences/Quick Entry. There's a small Helper that needs to be installed.
What's the name of the "sticky notes" app he's been using during the video ? Thx
It's a built-in macOS app, called 'Stickies'.
How did you setup that priority feature?
no reply yet? still wondering about it
You can nest tags in the tag window (e.g. Drag a High tag to a Priority tag, and the High tag will be nested under Priority)
So for those of who might be forced to migrate to Windows at some point, what’s the closest alternative to Things. Lookswise and simplicity-wise, MS ToDo (although it’s nowhere near perhaps in terms of features or even ease of use) could be a choice? Todoist of course. Any other suggestions? What I would miss most about things is its extreme simplicity, wherein, on the surface it looks just like a list, and no more.
Ticktick is very feature packed. I switched from ticktick to things but if I had no choice I think its a good replacement :)
@@AkshayDadhwal0Ah yes thanks.
Sure. Though, why did you choose Things over Ticktick.@@AkshayDadhwal0
I tried the control option and space bar shortcut but it didn’t work 😭
Check Preferences, Quick Entry. It requires a helper app to be installed in the browser.
Ned Baugh thanks!
Thank you for putting the translation in Arabic
What is the main difference between Things and Evernote they seem pretty similar?
Evernote is a note-taker, Things 3 is a task-management tool.
So one for notes, one for actions.
More TickTick Please
Elon, is it you?
😂
"Buy Jabon para ropa, Clorax Botella" -Tiago Forte
is there similar alternative for Android, for free would be the best ;)
I love things but it blows my mind that it doesn’t have different timezone use
Sound is a little unclear !
Something I don’t get, is having a list of “Things to Do” not being inside the very TASK management system you not only work in but paid $$ for & have chosen to use. It almost appears redundant.
Holly s*&%! Elon Musk’s twin! It’s crazy how he even sounds like him... lol
Elon Musk uses Things 3 😲
Francesco, you didn't warn your viewers that "Things is only available for Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. Things is NOT for Android, Windows, the web, or any other platforms."
What are the close alternatives, if any?
Hi Harry, so sorry, this is more for existing Things 3 users. Yes it’s only iOS and Mac, sorry Harry. Close alternatives like Sorted3 I believe is on Android, but always worth looking at the main two, Todoist and TickTick
@@keepproductive you're the best Francesco
Any time Harry, you know my email :-)
Francesco.
I just recently rediscovered Microsoft To-Do. It has been a Things competitor in my current workflow. It also has due dates and tags. Reason why i switch is it is free. I haven’t pulled the trigger to buy things for Mac
Darwin Cruz all Microsoft apps sell your data. I hope you don’t put important things in it
Wow.. He looks like elon musk
I’m not sure I really want to see his ‘things’. I hope he keeps them clean.
I don’t understand why this is better than Todoist? I tried it and it’s such a downgrade imo.
Get out of your bedroom dude.
Done ✅
