Never spoke to or met George but can practically guarantee that his biggest influence is Alain Caron. I always thought Alain’s slap technique was the coolest and most unique by far. Nobody plays slap like that. Playing actual noted lines in slap instead of just rhythmical octave shit that everyone, including myself do. Only Alain Caron did that way back when in the 80’s with UZEB. And now George Baldwin has learned to emulate and apply the technique beautifully. Amazing work, man!
I thought I recognised you! I listened to Steal Back Our Waves so many times when I first met my girlfirend (now wife with kids) about 15 years ago or so. It was on my daily commute to london when I was deep in love. I havent listened to it in years as its so nostaligic now. I remember you played breifly with Dave Vine in They? At the pav tav. Classic times! Your songwriting in Jonas 3 was awesome, the bass playing superb. Its so great to see youve smashed it again. Youve been a low key inspiration for me for a long time. Only when i recently got a Dingwall and came across this video, it all came flooding back. If my hard drive ever fails, im coming to find to get a copy of Steal Back Our Waves. ERAAAAASSE EVERYTHING YOU LOOOOVE.......... ❤❤❤❤
Wow thanks for this! Yes that’s me alright 😂 I have loads of unreleased J3 stuff I found literally the other day when clearing out old hard drives too! Was a really fun time. I appreciate all your kind words , they honestly mean a lot! Brings back some fantastic memories. If you’ve got some music/playing uploaded somewhere then I’ll take a look as I’m keen to hear it! Check out what Andy and Charlie are doing too, they’re creating some amazing stuff 🙏❤️
i keep coming back to this. your style is teaching me all sorts of new things between your plucking style and your time signatures are so freaking unique
So kind thank you! I need to do a tutorial video at some point but I’m not the most natural teacher 😂 I’ll have a think of how to format this and post something soon. Really appreciate the support! 🙏❤️
The groove gives me a Alain Caron meets Kai Eckhart vibe, but the compositional structure and tone is completely your own. Love this track. Probably listened to it 40 times in the last week. I don't know if people have fully appreciated how elegant and precise this composition is. There is zero fat on it. There is no wasted motion in the structure or in the execution of the performance. I am still trying to wrap my head around how you get the index-middle pops to snap on the descending string crossing. I realize that the custom Dingwall strings are a little lower tension, which may help, and you're playing right over the pickups, which may serve as a sort of pseudo Willis-ramp to brace your knuckles against as you pop the strings, but even if so, it's a bit of a trick. Someday, George, I hope you might do a full breakdown of the song's construction and execution. Cheers,
I've recently found you on Facebook, so I decided to see if you have a YT channel. I'm so glad that I found your channel! You are absolutely amazing! I love the Growl for the Dingwall. I hope to be able to get one for myself one, too!
Ahh thank you! Really appreciate your kind words. They are definitely worth it! The Combustion and NG range are also fantastic too. Hope to catch some of your music on them sometime soon!
Good lord! Apologies for not knowing who you are but wow! I just watched your jazz vid and would you happen to have any lessons on finger technique? the speed and precision was unreal. Mad respect 🙏
I keep coming back. It's a shame I can only thumbs up this video once...
Jesus dude... it's extremely rare that I see a new musician on RUclips doing something totally unique. But this is immaculate. Definitely subbed!
This. 99% of solo bass stuff is so boring, but this is unreal.
Really appreciate that!
Absolutely love the feel of this. Always in the pocket, not too high fiddling in guitar territory. And amazing sound!
Thank you!
that use of the rotary switch as part of the song is 1000/10
1390 subscribers... that's a crime!! Just discovered... wow incredibly talented!

That tone is disgustingly good. Beautifully paired by that amazing right hand technique.

This is crazy
Will you ever make tabs for this piece? I would love to learn it.
Amazing
Amazing playing! What pickups do you have in your ABII?
Blows me away every time I watch it. Just trying to figure out how many fingers are you using for the picking notes ?
Dude I when I first listened I thought you were using a delay pedal, this sounds absolutely insane….
I am 100% sure you'll get a lot of subscribers, you're very skilled!
If anyone were to ever be a candidate for AAL's bassist it'd be this guy.
aw thanks for that much appreciated!
Holy. Shit.
Nice!
Something tells me you’re a warwick fan, or at least were one
what is that bass? is it custom built?
It's a Dingwall ABII Custom yeah!
subscribed to know I made history being in your first 5xx followers
i'm just sitting here with my mouth wide open, like what the heck did i just witness
awesome tone and playing. just one suggestion - the strings are a little bit harsh, they might benefit from some compression. keep it up
That is one hell of a slap, dude.. Davie504 will be challenged bout your skills
