NASA Voyager Space Sounds - Jupiter

  • NOTE: All sound data reworked and mixed by Jeffrey Thompson @ Brain/Mind Research
INFO: Although space is a virtual vacuum, this does not mean there is no sound in space: sound does exist as electromagnetic vibrations.
The specially designed instruments, on board the various space probes, used Plasma Wave antenna to record the vibrations used here, all within the range of human hearing (20-20.000 cycles per second).
Interactions between the Solar Wind and the planets, moons and rings of our Solar System create "Soundscapes" of frequencies in the plasma energy "Ocean" that fills the void of space. Each planet, moon and ring system has a distinctive "musical" pattern. This decoded information can be heard when played over a speaker system.
    Jupiter:
The sounds used on these recordings were taken from NASA Voyager I & II. Jupiter, the fifth planet from the sun is the largest and most massive planet in the Solar System. In mass alone, it is three hundred times the mass of Earth. Jupiter is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. The entire planet is made of gas, with no solid surface under the atmosphere. The pressures and temperatures deep in Jupiter are so high that gases form a gradual transition into liquids which are gradually compressed into a metallic "plasma" in which the molecules have been stripped of their outer electrons, The winds of Jupiter are a thousand meters per second relative to the rotating interior. Jupiter's magnetic field is four thousand times stronger than Earth's, and is tipped by 11° degrees of axis spin. This causes the magnetic field to wobble, which has a profound effect on trapped electronically charged particles. This plasma of charged particles is accelerated beyond the magnetosphere of Jupiter to speeds of tens of thousands of kilometres per second. It is these magnetic particle vibrations which generate some of the sounds you hear on this recording.

I know I arrive a bit late: I took several years to reach out, such as an orbiter heading for the end of our solar system ;))) ! I read the exchange about the use of those sounds. To my opinion all was clear to my mind that this was a "reset of acquired waves through NASA equipment in order to make it audible for human ears". What is weird is that I hear this type of sound during some of my dreams? In any case since we have been created by elements that can be found everywhere in the Universe, we are somewhat connected to those "signals". Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, these "Brain/Mind Research" recordings will probably continue to resurface forever, giving the false impression that the planets somehow emit meditation music. The actual Voyager plasma wave audio can be found online, and although not nearly so soothing (or so marketable) are quite interesting in their own right.

***** Don't think anyone suggested that these are the direct, unaltered recordings of the Voyager plasma wave audio recordings. In fact, the description states 'All sound data REWORKED and mixed by Jeffrey Thompson'.

      Chris Hayes Hi Chris,
Since the begining of my post, under *jupiter* there is the statement: 'The sounds *used on these recordings were taken* from NASA Voyager I & II' and not *are* the 'Voyager I & II'' recordings. But when +Space Audio made his comment, and to avoid further confusion about the so called 'NASA Voyager Space Sounds', i've added: "All sound data reworked and mixed by Jeffrey Thompson" on the beginning of the description.
What i really feel is that the sounds presented on this work are great and that i just enjoy them for what they are, and now i believe that there won't be confusion about their nature anymore:
      1. these are based on actual raw recordings of the probes
      2. they were reworked and mixed by Jeffrey Thompson
In the near future i'll add the remaining reworks to the playlist.
      Cheers :D

***** Exactly. This is meditation music, not the natural signals we recorded. (And by "we", I literally mean me and the rest of the Voyager PWS team, so I assert that this is more than opinion.) Again, there's absolutely nothing wrong with meditation music and nothing wrong with using highly modified snippets of our data in it. The only unfortunate aspect was giving the false impression that this is what the Voyagers recorded.
