Hi Erin, you sent me this link for my issue, but unfortunately it does not address my problem, which is not adjusting space between words, it's only about correcting the space after a period to be one space, when I have input 2 spaces whilst typing my document. Is there a way to do this? Many thanks.
Oops, sorry that didn't work for you. Select the Word menu > Preferences > Spelling & Grammar > Settings button > Select "don't check," "one space" or "two spaces" in the Space between Sentences menu. Good luck!
Hi Erin-I’m having an issue and I’m wondering if you can help me. I’ve selected one paragraph (to expand space between words). I’ve followed your instructions. When I get to the “Find and Replace” dialogue box, and after I click “Replace”-under the “replace with” field, in YOUR dialogue box, there is nothing. However, in MY dialogue box, under the “replace with” field, I see: “Format: Font:48 pt" (and I can’t get rid of that.) So, anyway, I go on to click all the right boxes that you suggest, only to find myself at the end, looking at a final dialogue box saying: “Word has finished searching the selection. 0 replacements were made. Do you want to search the remainder of the document? No Yes” Neither No nor Yes does anything. I am left with no action. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the fact that my “find and replace” dialogue box says: Format: Font:48 pt, and yours doesn’t. So I’m wondering how to remove that. I hope I’ve written this in a comprehensive way, and thanks so much if you answer this:)
Interesting question! Have you been able to clear that Format: Font: 48? If not, place your cursor in the affected text box and then select the No Formatting button at the bottom of the dialog box. You may need to close the dialog box and reopen it for the change to take effect.
@@erinwrightwriting Thank you so much for answering! So I followed your instructions (I placed the cursor in the affected text box and then selected the No Formatting button) and in fact, that worked! The “Format: Font: 48 pt” went away! But then another problem arose, whereby the “affected text box” didn’t seem fully cleared. It felt like the clearing wasn’t finalized, if that makes sense-like I needed to click “close” or something. (I tried clicking Replace All, Replace, Cancel, Find Next to no avail). The reason I say the clearing didn’t feel finalized, is because even though the “Format: Font: 48 pt” went away, I was still not able to go ahead and change the spacing. I could go through the motions and fill in the right boxes, but the spacing wouldn’t change in the end. Your suggestion of closing the dialogue box helped. It didn’t directly work to close and reopen the dialogue box, but the suggestion made me think of closing the whole Word program down to refresh the dialogue box. So that’s what I did and it worked. I closed down the whole program and when I restarted it, the dialogue box was refreshed and ready to change the spacing. The problem is that I can not play with the spacing. Every time I make just one spacing move, I have to shut down and restart the whole program if I want to change the spacing again. I’m wondering-might there be a way to refresh the affected text box without having to close the whole program down? Thanks so much again if you read this.
i used the show/hide function you mention to see how many spaces were between words. what looked like 2 spaces is actually 1 big one. how do i get rid of it?
@@erinwrightwriting Yes, that was it, thank you!! Don't remember if I set the alignment or if it's default. Regardless, what should it be going forward?
@@TerriLawrence-g7y Great, I am glad it was an easy fix! Normally, the alignment is set by default to Align Left in a new document; however, if you are working off a template, someone may have set it to Justify. Most documents should be Align Left because it makes the text easier to read.
Bula Ms Wright. I recently found your channel a few weeks back and I immediately subscribed. I am from Fiji (hence why I used the word "Bula" - that means hello/hi). So, yeah. I find your channel to be very helpful to me and thought I'd share that to you. Keep up the great work and kind regards from Fiji.
Hello, Marian, thank you for watching! I just checked Word for Mac on my MacBook (Ventura 13.2.1) and the function is still working on this end, so I'm afraid I don't have any specific advice. However, could your text be inside text boxes? Unfortunately, the Find & Replace function doesn't work in text boxes because that text is treated like an object rather than regular text.
@@erinwrightwriting I am so stupid, I had so many documents open it was hiding the edit function on the top bar. Sorry to bother you. I went ahead and did what you said and it worked fine, Thanks!
Thank you very much Erin. I have dyslexia and ADHD, I need spacing between sentences and words to read properly. Is there a way I can make it a default always without doing this for every text?
Thank you for watching my tutorial! You can create a template customized to your preferred spacing, fonts, etc., which you can reuse as necessary. I don't have a tutorial on that topic yet (it's coming soon). However, here is a short article from Microsoft support that you may find helpful: support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-a-template-86a1d089-5ae2-4d53-9042-1191bce57deb.
