- New rare footage of the critically endangered Blue-bearded Helmetcrest including this hummingbird feeding on flowers and this hummingbird bathing. We returned to the Santa Marta mountains of northern Colombia to find this rare bird. This video includes beautiful drone footage of the whole hike to the top.

I am so glad William, and the rest of the team could make this climb back up and get the incredible footage they captured. The sunsets were glorious. The bedrock they rested on at the lakes incredible. But watching the Blue-Bearded Helmetcrest take a bath in the little stream, beyond words. No one will ever get that footage again. I raise wild Hummies and Jimin Hummie loves doing this exact behavior in the tiered red rock fountain we have and JHope Hummie loves bathing out in the spring rain!
Wow, the drone footage really gives you a great birds-eye-view of how difficult this hike is. I'm so glad that they got it along the way

After seeing this and knowing you did this trip earlier, it only reinforces that you are one tough lady and will always be my hero. Thank yo Carole for bringing us the experiences we can only have through your trips. Sometimes the only way to survive is to withdraw as the Helmetcrest Hummingbird has.
WOW!! You have to be in really good shape to do that trek! Amazing that that little hummingbird has managed to evolve and exist at such an altitude!

Do you know if there are ANY TYPE OF ACTIVE CONSERVATION regarding saving this lovely creature ????? I am in absolute awe over this video and the tenacity of ALL that journey to get a rare glimpse of this magical hummingbird !!! I pray there is hope for saving it from extinction ... Thanks again for Sharing this amazing video !!!
Fortunately the Kogi people, who are the indigenous people who control this part of the mountain consider the Sevilla Lakes to be sacred, so this ground should be ok. But a lot of the surrounding area is continuously being cleared for grazing.
If this spieces is in danger of being non existing then perhaps a male and female could be captured and taken to an Ornithology lab like Cornell University Ornithologist lab and bred? Just a thought??
These birds only exist at a very high altitude and that is what they are adapted to.
@@HummingbirdSpot Is there a high altitude lab where they could thrive? It seems like such a shame that with all of our science there is not a way to save these fantastic Hummingbirds. There has to be a way! Build a lab in the mountains and reproduce the environment and save this spieces. There has to be Ornithologist lab that would be willing to take on the challenge. Sadly my PhD is in Psychology or I'd volunteer!!
