I've done exactly that with some 6x10" slabs of 1" plate. They take forever to heat up properly, but if you drop a steak on that, 15-20 seconds per side, let it rest for a minute, then repeat a couple more times until the internal temperature is 127F, you get something magnificent. Similar results to sous vide, but a far superior sear (obviously) and the texture inside has a bit more structure than when you cook it for 2-4hrs in a water bath. Good stuff, man.

Thank you for the video. I can see the tool marks of the wheels. I'm curious how obvious are they if you were to powder coat after?

A mild phosphoric acid solution also works well for removing heavy rust. However, I once used too strong a solution on a rusty tool for too long and when I returned the entire tool had dissolved 😅🤣

That is precisely why I use a weaker acid.

Will it also remove any bits of slag or silicon left on steel after welding?

I noticed you put the part on a different table attached to your main table when grinding. Is that a different type of table? Magnet maybe?

Try a flap disc for a smoother finish😉

I use strait vinegar for rust removal but it has to be in a well ventilated area because it generates hydrogen gas.

Maybe be vinegar in gel form. It exists for descaling shower panes. Or cover the steel plate withe rags soaked in vinegar, probably on a sheet of plastic.

Hydrochloric acid (aka muriatic acid) gets it done in a few minutes - not hours. Bicarbonate of soda & water neutralizes. Rinse well, dry, then prime/paint. No need to beat around the bush when you've got $h!% to do.

It also rusts everything the gas comes in contact with.

    Muriatic Acid...15 minutes

Not in a shop. Muriatic acid fumes will rust any ferrous materials the fumes come in contact with.

@@txtoolcrib exactly. I rusted every single pc of bare metal inside my shop just by pouring maybe 8oz of muriatic acid on the floor. What a nightmare
