Polaris 280 Pool Cleaner Replacement Bag Hack - Save Money

Replacing a bag on a Polaris 280 can be cheaper. The round attachment piece of the bag comes apart. There is an outer ring that slides up that allows you to remove the old bag. A new bag can be purchased without the attachment ring that has the clips. Place the new bag on the bottom ring that has two clips and then slide the outer ring over the bag to hold it in place. There are cut out holes on the bottom of the bag that keep the bag from moving.

I used thin, wide screw drivers and similar tools to slide the ring.

Sorry, I did not film removing the ring. It is fairly easy to remove it with a wide flat screw driver or flat chisel. You have to wedge the screw driver into the gap between the bottom of the outer ring and the lip on the bottom of the inner ring. Once you wedge the screw driver into the gap just twist at different points around the ring until there is enough gap to slide the outer ring off. You will have to go all the way around the ring sliding it a little bit at a time before it starts moving freely. Mine was pretty nasty underneath and needed to be cleaned. I am sure the gunk kept it from sliding easily. The holes in the new bag will fit over round studs on the ring. The outer ring will slide straight up to come off and straight down to go on. It was not difficult, but it took some time and patience.
