Shannon from www.house-improvements.com shows you how to install a shower water valve. - Хобби
Best video on this procedure on the net, by far. Simple, yet detailed. Hats off to a real mechanic.
Glad it helped
I'm so glad I found your channel. I almost mounted the hardware then made the holes.
I'm a carpenter as well and I have to say you have some of the best videos on RUclips very informative thorough and Common Sense tutorial
Extremely helpful to visualize everything before undertaking the build
I put one of these in years ago, without any instruction. It got done but it wasn't pretty. I like how easily you did this one. One thing I messed up was to switch left and right, which was a critical mistake that had to be redone. Great demo.
Thanks for another great video. I have watched a few of them and always learned something new. You provide a great service. I am in the middle of installing a similar shower and was stump on a few points. You answered them all.
Excellent video...i have been looking for that type of video " cause i had room from behind to install shower valve" at last, i found this one....very very helpful.....and this guy knows what he's talking about.....
Just installed 48” shower with confidence from your videos thanks
Thank you for your videos. I have found them very helpful for a newbie do-it-yourself'er. I appreciate your time making these.
It is great the amount you learn of these videos.
Thank You!!! I’m sold I’m definitely following and watching your videos. Very inspirational so I’m ready to keep doing my home projects and helping my husband or telling him how to do it right..🤗 thanks!!
favorite carpenter on youtube
Thank you for this video when I have my bathroom renovated I will know what to expect
Best home improvement channel out there. Thanks
You are good , love your videos. One note..tho. you rather hold your breath very well or else you just dont care about dust
I do
You are master craftsman. Thank you for your videos.
Great video. I was a little surprised you were using the quick connect on this. Everyone I've spoken to only recommends them in an accessible location, in case of leaks . I just used them on a hot water tank install. They were great, no problem.
I use them on shower valves all the time.
The blocking with a hole drilled .. to hold your valve on place while you solder your pipes .. I never seen that .. it’s a very good idea !
Nice job on your video Shannon! Much appreciated!
I'm installing a similar shower in my barn. Your video was very helpful. Thanks for doing it.
Glad it was helpful!
This is exactly what I'm doing thanks you sir.
Great video. Your explanation was very thorough and informative. Thanks for the video.
I've been watching a bunch of videos about this. the best I've seen. thanks and I'm a new subscriber.
Great, thanks
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Shannon!
I'll be soldering copper, plus it's a reno of an existing bathroom so I can't get at the back side so it won't be quite as painless. Boy, that plastic waterline sure looks easy.
Love your videos! But please please if anyone is doing this, wear a mask when kicking up that fiberglass into the air, it's only one step but will save you a lot of lung trouble later.
A great Helpful' video Shannon. Thank you.......
you can listen to him at 2x speed and he sounds like how most people talk lol! and thanks for all your vids bro
I like how u explain step by step thanks bro
Good example of the important parts.
Thanks
Great video! But I have couple of questions; how do you finish off the fastening screws ( cup washers or plastic plugs?)that hold the stall plum and can you build up a base from plywood for support?
Exactly what I was looking for... Thanks
glad you found us
Great video! Do you have anything similar for installing the water mixing valve for a bathtub? Also, could you shed some light on how to measure where to cut a hole through the denshield/cement board to put the faucet and shower spout. Thanks!
Great video, as always.
great training video thanks a lot
Just did one of these today. These videos saved me! Thank you!!
Thank u for so many helpful videos!!
thanks for showing idea.
Very helpful. Thank you.
No problem Scott
You are awesome thanks for posting these videos you are very helpfully
Great video, very informative thanks!
You're welcome.
thank
you for the video and information
you are welcome
thank you so much god bless you
Damn that's cool always wondered how they make that hole
Hey... thanks for all your videos... the are awesome... very helpful... you have helped me a ton! Thank you
Glad you like them!
I'm new at this. Trying to learn and your videos help a lot.
1. You said three wraps of Teflon tape, but I think I counted 4 or 5 wraps.
2. I'm surprised you were able to tighten the fittings into the valve body with your hands. I thought they had to be tighter...using two pipe wrenches.
3. That mixing valve looks so simple. I guess it doesn't have scald control (pressure control?), which I guess prevents scalding while someone flushes the toilet.
4. The face plate and the blind hole in the blocking are the only things securing the mixing valve? Didn't see any mounting holes in back of valve, so I guess you would put strapping (plumber's tape) over valve body and screw into blocking...but blocking was installed first so we lost access to that side of blocking?
Thank you!
1.I tend to use a little more teflon, 2.I tightened with wrench at the 5:30 mark, 3.This valve has pressure balance and restriction on the amount of hot water that can be accessed so you can adjust the maximum water temp,4. If doing this in a reno situation you could cut the hole in the shower wall the same size as plastic plate to access the valve to secure. In a typical tub shower situation the valve would be installed before the wall is covered in.
Shannon, I'm currently working on relocating my existing mixing valve. The original valve was installed with copper inlet lines, but I am replacing with PEX and shark bite fittings. Typically, I see a straight inlet section of 5-8 inches, which I always assumed was for laminar flow into the valve, but don't see that in your installation (instead the inlet line goes straight into the valve through the 90 degree fitting). This would be the most efficient method for my installation as well, but I do question whether there should be a minimum length of straight section on the inlet?
You aré my ídol!! Thanks man!
great hat. great video too. thanks.
good stuff, thank you ...
great
Great video..
Thanks
Thanks. I've done a few and was wondering if you used shark bites also. They make the job so much easier and I haven't had one leak yet (in 10 years) Getting ready to convert a 2 handle to single next week. Thanks for the refresher. Also, per the shark bite package instructions, they recommend a 1/4 twist on pipe after pushed in. I suppose to set locking. Do you think it matters ?
I use shark bites all the time now as well. I have never twisted them after.
Hello Shannon, I always watch your videos when I want to know how to do something RIGHT. I like the valve you are using, can you tell me what it is? I purchased an American Standard Ovation prefab shower and it's very thin, and sits right up against the studs. I am having difficulty finding a valve that is shallow enough to work with it. Once I put a 1.5" board in place it wants to push the wall out. This valve looks like it might work. Thanks again for your great videos!
This was a Moen Valve
Exactly the information I needed. Thanks Shannon!
you're welcome
thanks I was just about to do it wrong... you saved my ass..
No problem! You've got it now!
could you please tell me a parts list of the brass parts in this video. I wish to use this whole shower kit. Thank you. Great video!
ask in my forum and I can help from there.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
Hey man great work. Quality over quantity . So I have a question . I installed a mohen shower fixture . I did a quick test in it to see if it leaks and water comes pouring out of the shower head in the off pos. Did I miss a step or is this a faulty cartridge
I would say your cartridge is turned upside down. Take the handles and plastic parts off and turn the shaft 1/2 turn. water should shut off. If you have more questions or comments please use our forum.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
I just needed to know how to cut the hole in the wall.
How do you put the duct tape around the hole..
I got some plumbing to stuff through there.
Hello Shannon, good video. Not sure if you answered this in a previous comment, but can the same process be used with tub? Such thing as a 4 way push fitting valve?
+Aaron Brown You can add these push fits to any valve like this ...at least any I have ever seen
Very good
how would you connect copper lines to a durastall 80 with plastic valve? thanks
Hi Shannon! Question: How reliable those push-fit fittings? Are they leaky or last for many years?
know to outlast copper but you have to push them on as tight as you can
I was hoping that you would show how to measure the hole that you made for the shower valve. I have existing plumbing that I am installing a new shower stall into. I only have one shot at this so I need to know exactly how to measure correctly.
Come ask your question in our forum and we can help from there

Good video
can you use a shower and tub valve for a shower valve by capping the tub portion of the valve or does it need a fixed diverter attached to it?
You can cap the connection to the tub
Safety Sally says you should be wearing safety glasses and a mask. But I know... you FIRED Safety Sally! hahaha!
I love your work! Have a great 2020!
Shannon do you have a video of a complete install of a three piece shower in? Actually what I am wanting to install is a four piece shower pan + three piece sides. Its a 27" x 54" space in a remanufactured home.
I dont at this time.
I have a shower stall in my laundry room that is tiny and we've never used it (previous owners added it). I'd like to tear it out, but I'm not sure what the best method is to seal off the plumbing behind the wall once it's out. Thanks!
+Shannon Crawford The water supply lines can be easily capped off using push fit cap fittings. One common brand is shark bite.
Shannon, I've just built and set up lines for a stand up shower. Is the shower valve body you're using "on/off" functionable? If so, they are rare to find. So what Im asking is how is this being controlled as far as turning on and off the water for shower only?
I'm not sure i'm really understanding what you are asking? Please come to the forum on my website and re ask the question there.
Tareck Fahmi Riobel brand has stop valves on the shower valve, one for hot, one for cold water. They are right on the valve and each has a screw to shut off its water supply. Funny that every basin, sink and toilet has shut-off valves very nearby but showers tend not to.
Hi, how would you waterproof around a square valve? I am looking to installing a square valve with Kirdi board. The circle provided by kirdi would not work.
No drywalls needed in the back of the shower unit?
Never use those fitting in a closed area. If possible install an inspection panel.
didn't work for me. Been holding this valve against my fiberglass for 3 hours but no one came to screw it in for me
Hopefully you are still not standing there waiting for the helper to come...a year is a long time to wait indeed!
Funny, I was on the other end waiting for someone to feed me the plaster-guard to come through. We must have been on different floors.
Best thing I read all day.
No air chambers?
Got any videos on how to put the glass door in that type of shower. Got the same one and instructions online are no help. Thanks
The only one I have is this:ruclips.net/video/u88j284_jAk/видео.html
Where is the shut off for each valve in the shower? We are getting ready to do this
How do I install a new valve kit if I have a full tub surround kit? Do I need to find and cut out access in the wall behind the existing valve?
That would be best otherwise you need to repair the tub surround
Nice 👍🏻
hey I'm trying to connect water to a superior v shower cabin I don't have a clue
how to test roughed in plumbing
I’m installing a Neptune Stella corner shower. Unit is beefy fiberglass reinforced. I don’t have access behind it after install. Would it be okay to mount the valve to the surround without that blocking behind the valve? The blocking would need to be on a 45 degree angle in the corner and very hard to get in the perfect spot.
its better to be mounted to solid blocking if possible.
good videos, ever have those shark bites leak on you yet? I am afraid of them. Why didn't you screw the valve body to blocking?
I have not had a call back yet on one. You are correct I actually never mentioned or showed securing it to that block, it did get screwed to the block and I should have mentioned it
How well does shark bites hold up for this application? I would also like to know should test for leaks while the pre install is under normal water pressure?
absolutely check for leaks once you have it fit.
How do you know what size hold you have to drill for the valve? Are they standard?
The instructions will tell you.
Hi, can you tell me if they have water valves just for showers? My dad bought one but it came for a bathtub but we don’t have a bathtub
There are but you can also buy a brass screw in plug that you can put in that bottom hole for the tub and just use this for a shower.
Is it home depot or lowes a good place to get shower valves? I went to home depot and didn't really see any... Where do U get Urs Shannon?
+POLOAZTECA I have gone to either one ,also HomeHardware,Canadian tire. I worry more about getting a good name brand more than where I get it.
+HouseImprovements I was looking in the wrong area... That is why I couldnt find it Lol.. But I already did. Thanks anyway Man
moen or delta
only time i would use those shark bite fittings would be for something temporary, never in a finished wall
+maddyloe They're certified for in wall and underground use. They've outlasted copper joints in many tests. I'd personally use the crimp on pex but none the less, the facts support long term use of the push on type, they're just very expensive for a large project.
+Aric St Germain Im aware they are certified, however I wouldn't use them in this application. it's just a matter of personal preference.
i do plumbing but never installed a shower valve just brushing up looking at this video but dont use shark bites unless you have no choice there just ugly. on finish work.
where did they but that shower stall? thanks
+Buddy Phelps I'm not sure but it is a Maax brand
Ha ha ha this guys a big time Newfie when he pulled out the Milwaukee wirsbo gun I was like what the fuck? I thought he was using shark bites lol just giving you shit man nothing personal
I wish you could see the fiberglass shower I'm installing. It's a nightmare.
I'm going to install this same unit but my wall is only 2 inches thick. How much room do i need for the valve?thanks
Depends on the valve and the shower unit. The valve needs about 2" - 3" from the back side of the shower wall.
@@HouseImprovements could you recommend a make that might fit?
Should A block always be used to secure the shower valve (is it Code)?
Not sure its really code but good practice when you can
I cannot find that shower Valve anywhere. Help!
what model shower valve did you use?
Round d
I wish I used pex. My house is all copper so when I was hooking up my new shower I used copper. Not without issue. I had a pinhole leak where the copper pipe attached to the mixing valve. To fix it I heated it back up and added more solder. I hope that's how to repair a pinhole? I am worried about it. Shannon is that what you would do? I don't have the wall on yet so I could tear it all apart and install a new mixing valve if need be. ☹️
That should do it but keep an eye on it for a couple days.
+HouseImprovements Thank you. I have soldered lots of times but never ran into this before. I don't think solder like brass vert much because the Delta Universal Rough-In R10000-UNWS would not seal. Every time I turned the water back on it would start hissing directly in the area I soldered. That convinced me to drop copper and switch to pex. Watching your video made it look far easier than copper. It was expensive buying the cutting and crimping tool. Plus a new rough-in mixing valve at $75. Still cheaper than a plumber but it's a shame. Now I've got one for the landfill. ☹️
Oh well now you have what you need for the next plumbing jobs
+HouseImprovements That's true and it took me only an hour to hook up the PEX as opposed to 3 hours to solder the 16 connections with the copper. There's a definite speed difference. Some say the PEX gives off VOCs so it's not as safe to drink from. Yet all new homes in Ottawa are being built with it. Fortunately I don't drink shower water so I'm not concerned. 😀
do you need to seal around the chrome inside shower piece?
if you mean the chrome cover on the valve, then no you do not. There is a foam /rubber gasket on the back of that cover.
Ok Thanks a bunch, now my wife believes me, now that I have and experts confirmation! haha
Pipe from valve to shower head has to b a copper pipe to have the best volume of water available
Inside diameter of pex is 3/8 your putting tension on the shower valve ???
Need help! I installed new rough in valve in my house and no now there's no hot water. What I did wrong? Probably hot and cold water mix in the valve. How can I fix it?
Come to the forum so we can discuss what you may have done.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
Where canbI buy that exact type of shower? Thanks?
This was a"Maax" shower I believe.
👍👍👍👍👍
