- A faction of the AmaZulu royal family has traditionally crowned Prince Simakade as King of the Zulu nation. This is despite other members of the royal house and government officially recognising his brother, King Misuzulu, as leader of the nation. On Saturday night, people gathered at Enyokeni royal palace for Prince Simakade's kraal-entering ceremony. Royal family members supporting him said only they can appoint a King, saying they do not recognise Misuzulu as King. Historian Professor Musa Khulekani Xulu is the founder of Indonsa Yesizwe Think Tank, which focuses on the Regeneration of the Zulu Kingdom and other Kingdoms in South Africa, Africa and the Diaspora through the promotion of traditional and indigenous knowledge. I am not Zulu but in my amaMpondo culture there would have been no dispute here. The King would be the one who comes from a royal family, whose wife was chosen by the nation and whose lobola was also paid by the nation. It's only in the absence of Ndlunkulu that the first born son becomes the heir. However, I am only speaking from the perspective of Amampondo.

I am Xhosa and Its true. The king does not marry more than 1 wife from a Royal family, he can have 20 wives but only one must come from Royal family and that wife will bear the Heir. King Phalo made this mistake by marring two wives of Royal blood and it was a whole conundrum. But this situation is straight forward just that the young man is mislead by those who want to gain access to Royalty.

@@richardmanqele2878 yes since the 1700s, Queen Nandi herself was the daughter of the chief of the Elangeni clan (King Shaka's mother), Sgujana who was the heir to King Senzangakhona until King Shaka killed him and took the throne, his mother was from the Buthelezi clan. You can find history of intermarriages between the Nguni tribes throughout history, it's how the tribes built alliances with each other since the 1700s

If so, you need to read your history my brother. It is not new that there is contestation for the throne between the eldest son and the heir who comes from the great wife, again King Mpande had an heir from a great wife, his name was Mbuyazi, and the eldest son King Cetshwayo challenged him and killed him to take the throne (again you can go do some history reading if you don't believe me).
Coming to King Zwelithini, King BhekuZulu did not have a great wife who was of royal blood, hence why the King was appointed by the family, in the absence of an heir, only then can the royal family come together and appoint the next King. King Zwelithini clearly stated even in his will that Queen Mantfombi was the great wife and even left her as a regent when he passed on. Like with King Mpande, the great wife bears the next King.
