Honestly I think the best way to sum it up....... and I'm sorry for leaving so many comments...... but unlike alot of channels........I really love seeing you put these beautiful knives through there paces...... real world shit!!!!!I throughly take your opinions to heart
I like your channel because you actually USE. YOUR. SHIT. Too many “big” knife channels are people who get sent a ton of knives, and look at each one for a few hours (at best) and are basically reviewing as collectors, not users. Not many of us get to collect hundreds of knives. Most of us are USERS. I appreciate your content.
The Worksharp Field Sharpener is great, it has angle guides, 240 coarse, 600 grit fine diamonds, ceramic rod, and a little strop with green compound. Flipping K390 endura 4 with lynch clip, sipping Earl Grey Tea.
Erica, that the dedication ! Top notch as always and happy myself to see the excitement ! I can tell u love that k390 and so do I .. Your very passionate for the knives as that’s where I’m at too .. All around goodness when u have a piece of metal in your hands. 😊💯🤙🏻
I actually find that 600 grit..... finished that is........ is a wonderful all around grit to finish at...... and s45vn.....I freaking love it........ almost as much as m4 and 204p
Oh yeah! I got a Stretch 2 in K390, which quickly became number one in my pocket. Broke in the action, loosened the pivot screw a bit, and it is just perfect to operate. Went from a bit of reprofiling to very sharp with nothing but the corners of all four available "grits" of a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Took a lot of light strokes, but the bevel is now 30 degrees of gleaming sharpness. What a fantastic knife!
i preordered that k390 wharncliffe endela and am happy to hear about the edge but sad to hear that it doesn't really patina since that is what I really wanted it to do
You can patina k390. I did it very easily by wrapping a paper towel around the edge, soaking the paper towel in vinegar, wrapping all that with plastic, and then unwrapping after two hours. Blade was mostly black.
You're right about not much out there about spy27, it doesn't get the love it deserves, glad you're adding to the knowledge base about it. Look forward for more of your input.
I recently got a new Dragonfly for my EDC and I chose the VG10 Emerson Opener one. Which I love. But you're getting me thinking I should've gotten the K390. I was worried about sharpening it 'cause I lack super steel experience and didn't wanna have to buy diamond rods for my Sharpmaker. I happen to like their VG10, but your excitement over K390 makes me think I'm missing out. So I'll put it on my list. Maybe I'll get one of those Workshop sharpeners for it. BTW, Spyderco just announced they're releasing a Mule Team in SPY27 that will be available all the time, not limited run.
Really cool to hear what Spyderco accomplished with Spy 27. It certainly sounds like the ideal all-a rounder. I think it will take more reviews like this before they really feel comfortable going with spy over s30v. At least the price for spy has come down, so they’re pretty comparable at this point. Of course the vg-10 and bd1n models are still cheaper. Seeing as they regularly upgrade steels, eventually bumping those up to spy 27 seems like a no-brainer. If Spyderco becomes known for having a user-friendly “super steel” (that no one else has) I think that will really help them competitively, I just don’t think they’re in a hurry to get there.
Spyderco is a volume company. They make their money because they produce tons of units like a Kershaw, it’s not a small company like a Demko or a limited run company that cut corners with mid to budget grade steels to offer competitive prices, that’s why their knives are competitively priced for what you get in terms of fit and finish and materials used. Where as with a small company like a Demko it’s 3 and 4x the cost to get those same premium materials. That’s my take on it. Using spy27 would substantially increase prices on their budget offerings over bd1n or the run of the mill s30v. Just my take on it, take it with a grain of salt
Sal mentioned this on the Spyderco forum recently about SPY27: "We do plan to use it widely, both in Golden and overseas. SPY27 is more expensive so we're not likely to replace any standard steels with it."
@@Pinki2019 Thanks, that’s interesting. Prices for Spy 27 were initially pretty high, but have recently dropped down to s30v levels. So either things have changed since Sal said that or they just decided to make less on Spy models.
@@mendoafgoo420 Agreed, bd1n is cheaper. But keep in mind, Spyderco has a history of continuously upgrading steels over time. So I could imagine their bd1n and vg-10 eventually getting upgraded to Spy 27 and their s30v getting upgraded to Magnacut. A lot depends on market competition as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if Magnacut came to dominate the high-end market, which would really force their hand.
Your description of that cardboard! I recognized the type! Yeah, almost takes a saw! The K390! Wow. Just got one and this really hit home, thanks!

I love my field sharpener. When I'm traveling that's what I keep on me, and it is an amazing tool to keep razor sharp edges on all my knives
I like the broadhead wrenches under the diamond plates.
That's the sharpener I want. Very affordable.

Seiki City K390 my favorite steel.
SPY 27was actually made by crucible that is why it is CPM SPY27. Crucible Powdered Metal. They manufactured it for Spyderco

I love my AWT scales too, they’re so nice and comfortable!!!
Agree about K390. I love my Stretch 2 LW in K390.

Your experience with the k390 knives make me wonder about the difference between Japanese s30v / lc200 and their US/ Taiwan counterparts.

@@FreedomFox1 If you google the quote it'll take you to the full post. He says a little bit more than that. Didn't wanna quote it all.
Wondering if the dragonfly 2 in k390 will perform just as good?
You like K390. You need to try hap40 from Japan.
Is K390 better then lc200n ? I had my victorinox huntsman with me today 🙂
Can you make 154cm shred too?
