This is what you had to go through when you couldn't afford a computer. Watch the whole thing to get the full experience of the meaning "this sucks" don't fast forward either..lol. At 2:33 seconds is the beginning of the WEBtv dial-up
(for some unknown reason to me the video skipped around)
It was origionally 6:30 seconds long....so watch it twice....lol
--------PLUS-------(not yelling, just trying to put a little more attn. on this)
✔✔✔ THIS WEB TV VIDEO GOT MORE HITS THAN EVER EXPECTED. THIS IS A
LOT FOR ME. SO ON THIS VIDEO, I'M GOING HAVE SOME SMALL PRIZES FOR
CERTAIN NUMBERS/HITS. SOMEONE GOT SOMETHING FOR THE 10,000TH HIT...
(BUT NO ONE CLAIMED IT UNTIL 10,200...or so, I'll have to look) BUT THEY GOT IT.
THE NEXT PRIZE/BRIBE WILL BE 12,345th PERSON ON OR BEFORE THE DATE
JUNE 4TH 2014, TIME 23:59 OR BEFORE... SO TO WIN WHATEVER (put some suggestions in for me to look through, no cash...)
OK, I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION BY NOW... to enter and win something SUBSCRIBE, LIKE... put the date, time, time zone, hour, minute, give me suggestions, something weird, crazy (I would rather it be something halfway cheap...PM the suggestions please... no porn, and what not... But it can be crazy and bizarre)
I will keep up my end of the deal. Someone had a "subscribe and you get a free sock"(no, it wasn't you L.yours was an exchange for socks :p ). I was disappointed when I didn't get socks... I saw that they were on RUclips 2 days later. I can't promise that it will get sent right away, but they got it(within that month... maybe... But they got it.
🌏 **SO FAR IT WILL BE ONLY WITHIN THE U.S. DUE TO SHIPPING PRICES, I WILL LOOK INTO WHERE I COULD POSSIBLY SEND IT, AGAIN, DUE TO SHIPPING PRICES** 🌏
SO SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, REFRESH, HIT ME (not literally) have fun I guess, if you can.
I will have to look at international postage prices. Just in the 50 states at the moment. 12,345 hits by 06/04/2014... or nothing will happen. Thanks!
if there happens to be a tie by some one on a million chance, pick a number between 1,000,000,000 and 2,000,000,000, why so long? I had a 10 digit code that I had to type or scan in multiple times a day for 6 years. The number will be setting in another account for this reason. It will have a time stamp so I can't make up a number.and I won't be one of those dorks who doesn't follow through on a deal... Unless I'm dead, obviously I can't follow through. I don't plan on dying. I should have died by now through all the crap I have been in and survived.
.
THANKS!
You always knew you were in trouble when the intro music went into the 3rd verse.
I KNOW THATS RIGHT HHHAAAA HAAA HAAA LMFAO
Didnt matter which part you know you were in trouble
Primitive! archaic! outdated! Ancient!
And oh how I miss it!
The excitement of hitting the power button, and waiting for that magical connection, to the oh so addicting world, held deep inside that mysterious black plastic box.
And let's not even mention the talkcity chat rooms!
Many, many fine memories!! Thank you for posting this!! :-)
Music-alternative for life
red email light is on
hope it's my chatroom gf
pov: you're seeking in from a long night and you trying to use webTV and the tv is on fall blast
The music before the loading, the startup sound, that red light when you got mail, the webtv messenger sounds it made when being sent by pc users that lagged you out if they sent messages too fast the precursor to manually ddosing hahaha, and the "You were banned from this chatroom for using Guest_ before your name", no mouse functionality, couldn't play java/browser games, had to find specific audio files to even listen to music on your webtv, getting disconnected when a family member, or anyone for that nature calls on the landline, "Webtv custom pages" for your own "website", and last but not least the inability to be an owner, or admin in MSN chatrooms to ban people. Ahhh, good times.. gooood times.
Did you ever practice your HTML and JavaScript in the Draacs123 HTML testbed??
😂
I had WebTV in the early 2000's as a kid before switching to PC and it was a unique experience. Seeing this again really takes me back
Anybody else think it's funny that the city never gets closer?
We're too far away
Plot twist: The road is actually a treadmill
@@NitrogenProot 😱
We are moving at 1 atom|year
I will NEVER forget the sound that the WebTV made and the red light coming on indicating you've got messages when you logged on.
Wow.... I remember when my Mom brought this home. I was always so amazed at the speeding road. XD great memories man.... Great memories.
WebTV had a setting that allowed you to hear the phone dialing and connection sounds (like any dial-up modem) rather than this muzak. It made it a lot easier to diagnose line problems, or if somebody else in the house was using the phone (their conversations could be heard through the TV).
This was back when internet was fairly new. Seeing the city in the background always amazed me. Like you never knew what was gonna happen even though u did lol. Online was new and magical. Its amazing how jingles will be remembered forever
God this music still sends shivers down my spine even after all these years.
I had some good times on the webtv... My first access to the internet. I became obsessed with those talkcity chat rooms. I use to go to this one room every night for years! They were like family. But then I got a PC.
I loved my WebTV, I would spend all night in the chat rooms...so in memory of them I ask a/s/l?
~ 30/M/MI, u? LMAO
Meeee tooo! My first experience of chat rooms at 13 years old. Perhaps we crossed paths!
Lol I never saw that I had replies. As for me 34/M/Tx
27/F/Tn haha!
I was just telling my fiance the other day about when I was 13 in one of those chatrooms and there was an internet "husband and wife" who were in their 20th and they "adopted" me. We were a family and everyone in this chatroom knew us. I told my mom and she freaked out and took Webtv away :(
Oh how I loved my WebTV! I miss those fun times! Made lifelong friends!
Driving a long road, getting no closer to your destination. Yep, that's logging on to Web TV.
😂😂
I used to have one and...you're not wrong. At all. :P
I loved webtv. I always will. I come to this posting often just so i can hear the music and take me back to when life was much easier. I always LOVED when u were connecting and u saw the road,my imagination would run wild never knowing what was at the end of that road. So sad
This really makes connecting to the Internet feel exciting. Now it's weird not being connected to the Internet.
...oh god I did not know that I still remembered that picture and that song until I saw this again. I had a Webtv for years and it was...an experience. On the one hand, I remember the hair-tearing frustration of how when the phone rang, you would get cut off immediately _and lose everything you were just working on_ (no hard drive!) On the other hand, I'm remembering the fuzzy feeling I'd get when I looked over at it and! that light! THAT MEANS I HAVE A MESSAGE! And back then it wasn't all that much spam.
Yet.
(We did eventually get a line-splitter, but before that, I fully attribute my typing speed going up from like 40 WPM to near 90 to the fact that I liked to type talky e-mails and messageboard posts, and there was no way to save my progress. :P)
Oh, and when you checked your messages when I saw that light, and saw new posts from the retro music chat group I was a member of, and I could talk to somebody from literally across the world in realtime and that was SO COOL (it still kinda is, let's be honest) and the thrill of seeing if somebody had answered me yet or not, and when my fave trivia game refreshed...ah, memories. :)
(but seriously that damn thing needed a hard drive. :P)
The later Plus models had a hard disk, but it could only be used to cache pages and stuff... it couldn't be used to save documents or download files, which is kind of a waste.
Boy watching this brings back memories. This was my introduction to the World wide Web. I can still remember the excitement of that time.
At the time, waiting this long sucked...but sometimes I feel truly nostalgic for WebTV. :P
How I miss Webtv! I remember we got it for Christmas my sister and I would always fight over whos turn it was such great times! We eventually moved on to a Compaq desktop but this intro brings back so many more memories!
Watching this brings back so many memories. I went through this long wait in 1998.
Oh my god, the memories this brings back. I remember living in the same house with my grandma and I'd always come down and we'd play card games and read on the WebTV. Everytime we tried connecting, this would happen, and it was actually pretty cool. I always asked her "When will we get there?" (I know geeky :P). My grandma got this new tablet and I'm teaching her how to use it. She said it will never be the same.
I love this. Web Tv was the shit back in the day !
Man does that bring back memories going back to 1998 when i was first introduced to the internet with my Webtv. I was hooked right from the start but i noticed early on the limitations with it. But it fullfilled it's purpose by allowing me to learn how to surf the net and nine months later i got my first computer. Okay i'm getting nostalgic now. LOL
I remember wanting to goto grandmas house to get on her webtv! ahh the memories of the infinite road! lol
The uploader of this video just hit a Walk Off in the 10th.
Bravo!
I had webtv until it ended on September 30, 2013. Loved it and miss it!
Brings back many fond memories! I heard MSN TV (WebTV) is closing Sep 30, 2013.
We never made it to the city! Lol!
Man this brings back memories. Webtv introduced me to the internet but i soon found out how limited it was and got my first computer about 9 months later though i was still stuck on dialup. I remember getting pissed when it wouldn't connect. LOL
This music is the coolest thing ever! Banger alert!!
great channel , reminds me of watching my dad when he used to work fixing dental handpieces and control boxes. then i started to help with repairs .. this is back 20+ to 30 years ago for me car audio started in early 90,s ,,,, the only thing i still have from back then are my g&s redline subs baskets and magnets , no cone or spider. keep up the great vids
I had WebTV for two years: between late August 1998 until September 2000. Had to replace it with a new Compaq computer at the time, which price range was just as cheap as webtv, but way better. LMAO! Oh, the memories are ringing in my ears. hahaha
Wow the memories of those days. Talk City, html programming your own chat client to change the look. Music ram files taking forever to load. Angelfire, Tripod, and GeoCities pages. Back then when it was simple and fun. I stripped all the files from my Phillips Classic and my Windows XP laptop is setup to look boot and run like WebTV did. Those were the days.
My first internet experience. I got a WebTV for Christmas 1998 and had it until early 2001.
Oh my!! But, it was such fun!! and all the things I learned about creating pages!! It was a great place to start!!
I love these sounds when you press the enter button, then the music when you login etc. WebTV would've been nearly perfect if you could use a mouse with a USB to help it function. RIP Webtv/MSNTV RIP MSN chatrooms. RIP "Guest_YourNameHere" :) Great piece of old tech.
brings back memorys of the 90s
haha thx for the memories. webtv rocked, those newsgroups! !!
That music! Jamming out makes the wait times better! Aw yeah!
I FINALLY FOUND THIS! I thought I imagined this as a fever dream when I was younger
I had webtv for over 10 years. As slow and limited as it was I loved it... but am glad it shut down when it did.
I LOVED WebTV. Back in the day it was fun! lol oh the memories!
I sure miss that mysterious side of the Internet. Back when you WENT to the intern. Unlike now, it comes TO you and you can’t even escape it
Oh the hours I used to spend looking up cheat codes in the 90s! I miss the music
i used to love this startup screen
Oh my God...so many memories.
WebTV was fun back in the 90s. I even had my own website I designed. I always loved the chat rooms, and the background music. I could stay on there for hours making up different personas...I guess what they call today a modern day troll. It was fun, and I didn't know too many people who had it.
It was fast for it's day. Well until someone had a incoming call.
Sony WebTV was my first personal Internet experience back in the day and I really enjoyed it! I'm sure I'd enjoy it today as well. I still want it to be alive, lol!
I know this is like 9 years late, but there are actually a couple of modern WebTV servers you can connect to. There's also an 'emulator' of sorts if you don't have a box anymore.
wow, this sure brought back a lot of memories! Long live WebTV!
Oh man, I joined just at the tail end of it still being called WebTV and then it changed to msnTV. Many memories! I actually still have a Sony and Phillips WebTV Plus. The Phillips came with a Web Eye which I never used. I remember making e-mail sigs, going to the discussion groups and Talk City. Good times. :)
I thought only Wisconsin had WebTV. I was about 10 when I had it. So many memories! lol
A great device for it's time. I sure don't miss that slow dial-up. Could we have imagined the iPad way back then?
W-O-W! Though this part was frustrating, brings back some awesome memories for me as a teen back in 1998
I had the original Philips Maganvox classic, the new philips maganavox classic where you can hook up a printer w/o the xtra parts. I got rid of both those but still have the Philips Maganvox Plus. Although I dont use it.
WebTV. Back when "downloading" porn pics involved recording them onto a VHS tape. Not that I did that...just saying.
Same here, in the chat rooms all the time. Mostly at night when no one would pick the phone up.
i truly miss webtv !!
good old web tv. good times
I miss WebTV.
There are actually modern WebTV servers you can connect to via an emulator. Needless to say, it's a LOT faster because it uses your current internet connection rather than simulating dialup :P
Fun for me during the mid 1990's
Oh wow, a trip down memory lane!!!!!
Me too.. The only internet access I had before hand was in school.. I bought a WebTV with my first paycheck lol.. I got a summer job and I think WebTV was just a little over a100 dollars... it was at a spectacular price compared to how much a computer cost then,, Yeah, it will be forever great memories..
I remember this fondly...
I remember this back in 1998 my first experience with the web.
My first "computer" in 1998
This is cool I had Webtv! Slow as heck!
I kinda miss WEBtv ...I liked how you could set up what music played as you surfed the net. I wonder if itunes would have it?? I did meet a lot of crazy girls in the chat rooms in Los Angeles. Good times my friends.
And you can refresh the page as much as you want.TBH, I'm pretty much bribing you guys so I can get more hits and subscribers. I don't want to use the "sub4sub" so just put in some suggestions and what not.
childhood memories webtv was the best inn 1998 2002
I can't wait to put that Real Audio ram in my email sig!
I have been searching high and low for an isolated version of the email notification sound. The "chirp-chirp" heard at 2:27. I'd love to have that as an email notification for my Android.
Did you ever find it
my fifth grade teacher had webTV in class back in 1999. we was soo high tech lol
I miss my Sony WebTV...
@LFactorSA Yeah I got WebTV back in 1997 when my best friend joined the Peace Corps and was heading to Paraguay. Didn't have the need for a computer back in those days so the WebTV was great for me, actually I was the first one "online" in my family with this, was so fresh and new. With this I signed up my 2 cousins and my parents with their own accounts, I recall people racing to their mail when the red light would come on, even in chat, I wasn't the only one with this, it was great.
Microsoft acquired WebTV about 2 years after it was launched. After that they changed the UI.
I remember selling my webtv to a dude. I got worried I may have forgoten a few "pics" on it.
i would only want the webtv back again only for the music
I wonder though, with the internet drastically evolving since WebTv days, what could WebTV support now?
So remember this. Could shower, use rr and get into my jammies before it actually connected. I purchased it back before MSN took it over, but remember those sounds and connections perfectly. Compared to today, that's just horrible wait time. lol
Remember how infuriating it was when Webtv wouldn't connect and you just watched that stupid green line never move and the music kept repeating as that highway kept moving? Good times.
So.... my Dad got a WebTV cause he got tired of me hogging the computer.... Then I got pissed when he started hogging the phone line with the WebTV... I moved out... That was the start of my adulthood!
Some say that little Jimmy is still waiting for it to connect even to this day.
haha, yup
The nostalgia!
damm this took me back! LOL all those chatroom days
still remember my 1996 Webtv by phillips... TalkCity baby!
Funny thing is I got a letter in my mail last week from Webtv saying that MSNTV/WebTV service will be no more.. And what to do if I still have this service... I have not had WebTV since 2002 lol.. This brings back memories.. End of an era even though I have not surfed WebTV in 11 years...
@jaredlegomaster I recorded it from WebTv to VHS around 1998 or so, burnt to DVD, transfered to computer then to youtube Mar.-5-2011
Yeah crazy how much things have changed an I used to be in bunch of the chat rooms back then
Im ready to connect bro! Thanks for posting!
My first internet experiences have been with WebTV. I started out with a Philips Magnavox WebTV Classic in 1997, then bought a printer adapter for it...only certain printers worked with it. I remember the sometimes-eternal waits with the 33.6 KB modem it came with. I spent a lot of time in a few of the alt.discuss groups. A couple of years later I moved up to a Sony WebTV Plus, which worked somewhat better than the Classic. I quit WebTV in 2001 when I bought my first PC.
i love that the number it's dialing doesn't have an area code
Yup, I know what you mean. I was going to buy one off eBay, for the nostalgia, although I doubt it will work in the neat future.
I think I commented this before, but there _are_ modern WebTV servers you can connect to with a real box, although the setup is a little clunky and it's better to just use the emulator, known as "WebTV Viewer".
My mom bought the WebTV Classic back in August '98 when our favorite store Caldor's was closing shop in a few months. It cost about 200 bucks and it was on sale. It was fun, but the dial-up is too frustrating. This was before MSN intergrated with WebTV. We had the WebTV Classic from 1998 until September 2000, when mom got me my first COMPAQ PC. After that, the rest was history. A few PCs and a bunch of new gadgets later.
R.I.P. MSNTV/WEBTV.
OMG Yes!!! We got WebTV in 99 and I thought it was amazing! My mom bought me my first PC which was also a Compaq in 2001! Hah, thats so funny.
Aww the days of talk city and the captain table chat room
@LFactorSA... I myself, could not afford a computer. I used WebTv for 2 or 3 years until i could get a computer. the "this sucks" was Waiting to get on the internet. it took an average of 6 minutes to get on. it was fun, but limited. It didn't exist when i grew up either. I played outside all day as a kid unlike kids today.
Connecting took some time but then when it finally said connected..i was like "yeah" lol.. And yes, back then webtv was very cheap alternative to high price computers.. I bought mine with my very first pay check from my first summer job .. I was 16 and was just excited..
Does anyone remember this about webtv?...........
If it was going to connect, the "highway lines" would have a slight hiccup with every 5th one that came by, but if it wasn't going to connect, there was no hiccup, just steady oncoming lines, like it shown in this vid. There was nothing more disappointing than seeing those lines come by with no hiccup, which meant you are not getting online now, UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! :-(
