    A GHD is something you see a lot of Olympic athletes using so it’s no wonder it’s part of their training. I think we have to remember Ivan that Olympic athletes only job is to primarily train for their sport. I think you are doing extremely well all things considered. Your a father, a nurse, a husband, RUclipsr, etc. don’t forget to have fun with your training and be safe brother!

    Iven, you're a beast. Most ppl won't know how a really heavy 180 kilogram front squat is a weight to attempt no joke

  • @Rigpa88

    I have that same experience haha - weights in the gym feel lighter than the weights I have at home.
    I began to wonder if i just feel more dialled in at the gym being in a public setting with people potentionally looking at you, so I push harder perhaps than I do in the privacy of my own home.

    GHD's are great, I've been doing iso holds at the top of the movement for as long as possible. Really valuable movement, especially for the Squats.

    You should try using the seated calf machine when you go to the gym maybe pumping and getting more ROM in the soleous before overheadsquats could help you get deeper.

    In my current situation, I don't think I'll ever go back to a commercial gym again. Maybe someday when I move to another country and can't bring my home gym equipment with me.
    It's nice to train around people though. There's an energy that's absent when working out alone in a home gym.

      @@IvanDjuric300@IvanDjuric300 Hey Ivan, what I did and what I would suggest, if you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars and take up a third of the garage with a GHD. Just get a cheap foldable hypertension. I bought one off ebay for $153 shipped to Perth about 14 months ago. Same one, from same seller is 130 at the moment.
      I didn't put the handles on mine to save space, since I've never used them on the gym ones anyway. When it's folded flat it's only 17cm high, so you can easily stand it up and put it at the end of the shelves or against the wall. I wouldn't have gotten one if it wasn't foldable.
      Obviously it's not going to be as solid and as nice as the gym one, but for the price and space it's not bad if the most weight you're going to have on it is body weight plus maybe 20kg. I'm 5'10 80-85kg and tested it using a 20kg kettlebell and it felt fine. If you want to go heavier just save it for the gym days. Better than the setup you used to have and better than the different set ups I've used inside my power rack. Doesn't take any longer to set up or pack away than putting a set of plates on the bar.
      One thing I didn't like about it is the ankle support felt like it wasn't long enough. So your quads feel like they're being squashed up into the pad a bit much and too much stretch behind your knees. It's a fairly basic T shaped part, so I just remade it 5cm longer, so your ankle can be further away from the frame.
      The one I went with was from an ebay seller in Melbourne (oz-g-day). Just search hyperextension or Roman chair on that store and it will come up. Bunch off other sellers with the same or very similar ones.
      That Freak Athlete thing does look like it can do a bit more though.

    Yeah man, I share the same sentiment. At 35, I don't care about people's validation but make no mistake I definitely enjoy it when I receive it. 😂
    When I used to go to commercial gyms, let's be real, most people lift really light weights - so even though it's NOT much in the PL world, but loading 180kg to 230kg on the bar for either squats or deadlifts is absolutely mind blowing to most people in commercial gyms.
    I had people, on multiple occasions, stop what they were doing and come close to watch me lift. 😂 Talk about motivation and pressure to perform. 😂

    Hi Ivan, I’ve been meaning to write a comment regarding the bench press for a while, but you’re progress has been really good lately and I was hesitant to make suggestions, seeing as things were going smoothly for you. A couple videos ago you mentioned that you are starting to experience a slight performance decline, which motivates me to give a suggestion. I’m happy that your wrists and forearms are healthy btw, I know what that feels like. As a street lifting athlete, I specialise in weighted pull-ups, chin-ups and dips. I think these movements have great carryover to some upper body Barbell movements, especially the relationship between the dip and the bench press. The Dip offers a greater ROM than the bench, a weighted stretch component, which is supported by the literature to benefit hypertrophy. Additionally, the chest, shoulders, triceps, upper back and scapula stabilisation muscles play a huge role in both the dip and bench. I believe that both movements compliment each other really well and I think you would benefit if you have the recovery ability to add some weighted dips into your routine. Love from Bulgaria, keep up the great videos

    Nice, just like I was talking about today with the back extensions. Good to see you still find it useful.
    Oh if you're worried about space, just get a 45 degree setup, mine folds up and down within seconds is easy to keep out of the way. Better that than nothing.

    hey Ivan that overhead squat at minute 4:32 looks perfect, you have good depth, you are activating your traps, the bar is behind your head but balance in the middle of your feet, and you have a good back angle, i dont know why when you put weight the bar is at head level you are too upright that is why you can not reach depth, but the one at 4:32 with just the barbell is perfect. so you do have the mobility you just have to replicate what you did at minute 4:32 but with weight.

    • @IvanDjuric300
      @IvanDjuric300  8 месяцев назад +3

      Yeh I just feel like I can’t keep that bar in that position. It’s too heavy to fight my lack of mobility and the weight at the same time.

    • @argent087
      @argent087 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@IvanDjuric300 dont worry man you will get there with time, you got it already im working on it too when i first started it was hard to hold the 20kg bar and now i been holding 40kg with no problem, just make sure you squeeze your traps so you have stability and you dont have all the weight going to your shoulders.

    +1 use lifters, I get the minimalism but for weightlifting they're non negotiable, not a crutch. Even some athletes with amazing body lengths for squatting cobble extra heel height onto theirs. You have the most praised shoes out there, it's almost a sin to not be using them haha.

    • @IvanDjuric300
      @IvanDjuric300  8 месяцев назад

      Hahah I know. It’s just they feel horrible to be in. I love the minimalist shoes. So comfortable and I can feel my feet and arch working.
      With oly shoes it’s like a concrete block. Eventually I’ll wear them when I start using proper weight on the lifts.

    • @tatache5971
      @tatache5971 8 месяцев назад

      100% agree. Barefoot shoes are great to walk around or for deadlfits, but for oly lifting... especially when you are a beginner. In my opinion "train with minimalistic shoes to get more mobility" is putting the cart before the horse, mobility will come with oly shoes anyway, and it will be less frustrating. In addition they add extra stability with their flat solid soles.

    Ive lifted for around 15 years at commercial gyms. Sure it was great for the most part but i wouldnt change my basic home gym for anything. I'm stronger than ever and been lifting at home for 3 years now. All it matters is beating my training log. The key is to be able to push yourself hard when youre there alone without others watching you.

    I bought my GHD the same order as my squat rack, barbell and bumper plates. Don’t regret it for a moment. Yeah it’s in a corner and takes up a whole corner in my basement. Then I use it and remember I love it. I will say if I could do it over I probably would do a 45 hyper to save the space - but I have this and I can’t bring myself to get rid of it I love it so much.

    I think you should work with 30 kg on the OH squat, try match the form you get with the empty bar i.e. no APT and reaching depth.
    Sweet 180 rep. As for posterior chain isolation at home you could do stiff leg DL like the guy was doing in the background

  • @bwatt1383
    @bwatt1383 8 месяцев назад

    Closest thing to a ghd ive found is 20-30 rep deficit stiff leg DL, done with a band band from the power rack pulling my hips backwards. But yep i then deal with the axial loading and fatigue

  • @SoulRollerFIN
    @SoulRollerFIN 8 месяцев назад

    Look up Chad Vaughn. He has a great 4 week introductory plan for oly lifts. You would probably pick up a lot of good stuff from there, mainly for the OHS position and getting under the bar. That OHS is so close, the legs are there, but the shoulder rack needs to be put to work or woken up. The only thing I personally miss from a commercial gym is the GHD. Such a great, versatile tool. Sadly, I don't have a garage and I lift at a grappling gym. If I had a garage gym, I'd DIY a makeshift GHD from a plyo box, an ab mat and some plywood. :)
