And a catering table. With the director sitting on a chair holding a phone up talking about the next project. In town there could be 'coming soon' adverts for the movie
Maybe for the wheat field: - A scarecrow - A snake chasing a harvest mouse - A combine harvester (Please!) Film set = fantastic idea. I'm so invested in this ha. It's so very impressive
I have to say, turning the knight battle into a movie set was an absolute stroke of genius. A very clever way to both get some historical story-telling in a historical setting, but still keeping it within the timeframe of the rest of the town. I absolutely LOVE this idea!
A suggestion concerning the Keep... not only shoud it be higher, it should also be bigger in circumfence. As the Keep was not only the last defence for the Lord of the castle, his family and servants, it was also the safe haven for the peasants from the surrounding farms, that were under the Lord's protection! There had to be chambers (with sleeping arrangements) to house everyone (the Lord and his family, the servants, the peasants, the soldiers, etc.), seprated dining areas, kitchens and pantries, an Armory, corridors to connect everything, a general assembly area and more of the like. As an indicator for the size you'd be looking for... Take the current keep, raise it by 30 to 50% and that at least times 4 (square floorplan) or perhaps even 6! (witha rectangular floorplan)! This whole project looks amazing I'd love to see what's next! Happy building! 👍
@@acubleyIt depends, I suppose, on the intent of the builders. Sometimes a castle was built around a pre-existing manor, other times a manor/keep was built with the intent of building a castle around it, and finally, rather commonly, the former was initially the case but over time the manor was torn down and replaced with a larger, properly defensible keep.
So much amazing progress and so many cool techniques showcased in this video and yet the big standout for me was the recently harvested part of the wheat field... Sometimes it's the little things that really make the difference for world building
Another idea for the minifigs in the Castle could be archeologists or historians doing some sort of field research or surveying of the castle's remains, and/or a field trip of younger kids. The movie set is interesting, but feels a bit on-the-nose to me. Overall I love it though! Love the idea of the wheat partially-harvested, and would love to see a combine nearby!
I kinda like the fun dynamic of seeing the castle guys from the outside and thinking “oh hey, it’s just some guards doing a little battle”, only to come around to the back and realize “oh!! It’s a film crew! That’s fun!”
yeah, but i dont think people will be able to get around the back, i think they said they will block it off for guests, witch makes sense considering most of the back has support structures on show, so guests won't be able to see any of the film crew stuff.
Just some thoughts: -The towers of the castle should have doors (or empty archways) where they meet the walls. -The wheat field looks cool but also a bit too uniform, maybe move the scarecrow into the middle of it, and make a few small "harvested wheat" patches to simulate some dead stalks and to break it up. Maybe for the big harvested section, you could make the edge less straight/blocky and put some farmers in there with baskets and scythes actively harvesting it.
Love the update as always. Always super exciting and fun to watch. Honestly usually one of the best parts of my week (and my sibling's week too for that matter)! Three suggestions: 1. I think to be more realistic you should expand the film crew a little bit. Add tents, maybe a food area, and most certainly a director's chair for some ideas. 2. Make the Castle Keep larger, and taller. Maybe put it back further and have the castle "disappear" off the build. It'd allow for a more realistically sized Keep. 3. Add farmers harvesting the wheat. It'd be much more clear what that area is, plus, it would be a nice addition since it'd be so close to the viewer.
You are one of the best RUclipsrs I know, because A: you don't use bad words! B: you work with your brother! And C: you build with LEGO, which is the best solid object ever created! ☺️
I like it how the film crew is hidden/blocked/in the keep. Seeing the medieval soldiers fighting makes you ask "Why are they fighting" -- through exploration, you find the film crew!
yeah, but i dont think people will be able to get around the back, i think they said they will block it off for guests, witch makes sense considering most of the back has support structures on show, so guests won't be able to see any of the film crew stuff and you cant really see it from the side either.
The keep really needs to be bigger - taller and wider. It’s not just a tower, it was used for food storage, housing the lord and his clan, and protecting the entire village from invaders on occasion. It would also be cool if you did a secret dungeon or crypt under the tower too
That castle is coming together beautifully! If you’re looking to build out the scene some more, every pro film set needs a well-stocked Craft Services table.
You could make the castle keep wider as well as taller to it more presence, as well as having walls coming off it to the main walls to create a seperate inner section of rhe castle for a last stand. Also, including an attacking camp witj seige equipment made from cutting down the nearby trees and having some skirmishing or rienforcements from outside the castle, could also look really good.
this is one of my favorite updates so far, every bit was just beautiful and the film crew might be my favorite story addition. I had quite a sad night and i thank you for brightening it truly. much love as always
This man is clinically insane. It’s incredible that you have this much motivation to do what you love and have 5 billion legos at your disposal to do so. Keep up doing what you love.
Love these update videos, looking amazing! A suggestion for the wheat field: Place them on large tiles so that you can swap a fully grown field for a harvested field or a ploughed field more easily. That way, if you want to change the season for your scene, you don't spend hours removing one and putting another in its place. It'd also allow you to play with the underground color a bit, like turning it brown for the ploughed field.
A suggestion concerning the castle is to enlarge the gatehouse. It should at least be a tower for an improved defense system. The keep should also be upgraded and include residential and storage space. English medieval Keeps are great inspiration for such project. Btw great video, keep up the good work!
what you could do to add height to the castle keep is a wooden structure on top, as was fairly common to have. with a sloped roof to protect any archers on top from plunging fire as the arrows would have been fired upwards, and thus coming down again from above to reach up to them. it would also add some contrast for the build with the browns of wood to break up all the mostly gery of the stone
I think that having the film set inside of the castle is better, as it kinda hides them and makes it a surprise to see. It would be a nice twist for people seeing it for the first time, as from the outside you can only see the knights
yeah, but i dont think people will be able to get around the back, i think they said they will block it off for guests, witch makes sense considering most of the back has support structures on show, so guests won't be able to see any of the film crew stuff
For the cultivated field you should add a tractor that is harvesting the crop. For the castle I think you should add an open door or fortify the walls near the entrance, because it's a bit empty. Anyway, fantastic work, I can't wait for the next video.
The amount of work you put into this is incredible! And the progress amazes me every time. There is a lot of extra potential in the forest imo. Wildlife, lumber industry (or just 1 guy), hunters/huntercamp, a small forest fire, campfires, berrydeposits etc. Such things would make it feel more and more allive, which is something you really want right :D
Brickcrafts, I have an idea. In the newly built wheat section, you should make a tractor with a tilling thing on the back to make the field come to life, like it just harvested the area you made shorter. Maybe even a barn too!!
Regarding the castle keep I want to clarify something: A keep (common in western europe) is a defensive living structure often equipped with towers at its corners. A "bergfried" (common in central europe) is solely military and can not be used as a living space. Castles with a bergfried also have a "palas", intended as the main living space of a castle. They are not the same thing. Fun fact: The word "palas" is the origin of the English word "palace" and the German word "palast".
Looking awesome as always! But I think the castle keep should be wider as well. Right now it's only about as wide as the other towers, so I think it will have a more realistic look if it's a bit bigger all around :)
I just recently visited a castle... I have a good idea. You could make a hole in the hill by the wall of the mountain, and make an interior for a little dungeon!
If you could make the keep wider as well as taller, that would be awesome. Also if you could have it look like there were parts of the keep added in a later style of castle. Love the city and I have been following the progress for a long time.
I would actually make the keep entrance a ways off the ground as real keeps did that to have a staircase that can be removed to prevent entry. It’s a neat historical detail and could make the keep a bit bigger like you suggested
Honestly, i love how dense the forest is. I appreciate the amount of work it takes to do the tedium of building it, but imho i think its so worth it to build these vegetation vistas as they really complement the scale of the builld
Wonderful idea to add a film set!! I think you should add a dirt road up the mountain to the castle entrance, as that'll also give the film crew a way to have access! Maybe add a couple cars too?
I’ve been watching this series for a little over a year now and I love how you take viewer feedback and often implement it in your next video, it makes the whole building process so much more exciting to watch!
So impressive, as always! I love the film crew - such a great way to combine the times. For such a tall mountain, maybe instead of (or in addition to) the ski area, it needs an astronomical observatory
The idea that the castle battle is just some film crew shooting their own version of "monty python and the holy grail" or something, is brilliant! As an amatuer filmmaker myself, I approve.
I LOVE the updates in this video, the film crew was such a genius move. I went to a hand-worked farm recently and in the middle of their corn field, there was a big oak tree and small clearing for picnics and stuff that you had to find your way through the corn field to get to. Not the most practical for efficient agriculture, but it could be a good way to break up the monotony of the wheat and add some nice detail close to the museum viewers. Also I think a hiking path from the town to the castle might be an easy way to tie the sections together a bit.
decorative siege weaponry would look so cool with the castle build, a few cannons, maybe a trebuchet or some ballistae would be so awesome and probably quite fun to build !!
Man I haven't watched you in a couple of months, but I came to watch this one as it appeared in my recommended. And boy will I tell you I was shocked at how much has changed in the city! Amazing work, keep it up!!!
And if you do decide to do this you should add some, secret rooms and you should have the entrance to the Batcave be, behind a grandfather clock but that's up to you.
I had been following for a while and I can confidently say this channel has the most impressive building techniques I’ve ever seen, I always look forward to new episodes
I’m not sure how practical it would be, but I think a miniature castle would be interesting so the directors can block out where they want shots to go. I also think a clothing rack with tons of tunics and such could be interesting, and maybe a refreshment table for the staff. Also the signature directors chair could be neat if it’s possible to build one of those.
i agree with the other comments about adding a scarecrow, but also its just so touching that youre able to do community events to build with viewers! i think thats really sweet. i love the way the wheat field turned out with the little harvest area, but i was the most excited for the castle to finally show up. putting a movie set on the inside was the last thing i expected, but its the most darling thing ive ever seen!
Your making videos slower resently, but thats good! Because your making the content better then normal and making it more enjoyable! I love the videos this is the best Lego City in all of youtube!
I’ve been subscribed to your channel for about a year now. You are quite remarkable. Your attention to detail is amazing. I see you get a lot of comments/recommendations for what you should do to enhance it, but I think you know exactly how you want each section to develop. Love it when you kick off the shoes and hop up on the display to piece each area together. I look forward to more videos.
Please consider adding texture to the hills, like mud patches, and rocks here and there, basically add more nature and variety, so it's not all just a green blob.
i love the film set. I would really expand on that idea with some caravans/trailers for the stars, maybe a catering tent, a director with monitors for playback etc. awesome build!
Looks incredible as always! Love how the lights are coming along. I’m piling on a bit but agree with many of the comments below. Adding a scarecrow with some crows around him, and some harvested wheat still on the ground with a tractor would add a few stories to your wheat field.
As always, I really enjoy your updates on your Lego city build! Also, it's amazing that you've got a brother that enjoys working on it with you. Amazing job guys!
Fantastic update! I would love to see a catering crew and more actors preparing to do their part. Maybe even someone in medieval costume on the cell phone with his or her agent? As always, I learn something new each time I watch your updates!
Love how the castle is coming, and the lighting is amazing. Crop circle and alien abduction in the crop field could be really fun. Just an idea, your build is AMAZING, so so so so cool. Keep up the great work :)
A lot of castles have large wooden sections on top, where the walls are made of wood. maybe you can keep the tower you have there, and simply add a wooden section on top?
I like the vineyards beside the castle, but it is only visible from 1 side angles. Your Lego city is amazing, I love how it keeps expanding and your attention to detail.
Love the idea of the castle being used to film a movie. Moving them outside can create a new story where they’re defending the entrance from the attackers
You could so much with the castle. You could add an old stable, armory, prison, a high court, etc.. and then make it a touristy destination by adding a gift shop to tie it all in. Salzburg, Prague or Wawel castle would be good examples for inspiration.
This is fabulous! Your vision and commitment are breathtaking! Tiny thing on the castle: the keep entrance would never face the outer entrance in a fighting castle, you want attackers to have to cross the maximum disrance under fire before they start bashing in the door. The keep could stand to be a bit broader, if you can bear it! Whatever you do, this is glorious work and I very much look forward to visiting one day!
What I would recommend is watching Game of Thrones specifically for the scenes in the Winterfell Courtyard, and take notice of the set design there. You should be able to get a LOT of great ideas and inspiration for your castle. For the area in front of the wheat field, how about a dirt road with an old truck driving on it, or a tractor with a combine turning from the field towards the farm, as if he's about to head home. Good Luck, we're all rooting for you!
On the Castle Keep... The door should be a story up with a wooden staircase going to the left when you walk out of it. Shadiversity has a great video on it "Principles of castle design, Honorguard epic tour and analysis." Epic History has a great video on it as well, "How to design the perfect medieval castle." ~40 and ~20 minutes respectively.
For the castle: I think the director is in the shot of the big camera, I think a trailer for the actors to hang out in, and someone else mentioned some knights hanging out in chairs with phones or smth. For the wheat field: if it’s half harvested you definitely need either a group of people having a harvesting party (seeing how you make standing bundles of wheat would be interesting) or a more modern combine harvester. Either way I think you should have in that little empty space in front of the field be children playing copying whatever the adults are doing on the actual field ie either making little bundles of grass or playing with toy combines. Love it as always!
I always enjoy these updates! You and your brother are so creative and knowledgeable about Lego, I wish I had more time to build a few things myself. Nowhere on your scale of course!
As someone who works in the film industry, I think it'd be really cool to add all the tents and trucks that go with making a film. Also that's not what film industry gimbals look like, but it might be even cooler to add a dolly and the track to go with it? I love the lights that you have there, but they'd need a generator! I'd put a crash pad under the knight who's falling -- He's gonna get hurt without something there!! Oh and some people need to be working that prop table! I feel like even student films normally have like 10 crew members for every actor. Let's get some wardrobe people and racks of clothes going! The guy with the microphone could be the director or the AD, but you totally need some producers/etc sitting in chairs and a couple of monitors. Maybe a script supervisor with a copy of the script. Oh and Craft Services (food) is literally a MUST crews will straight up revolt without food. Maybe some scenic artists, set dressers, etc getting some other part of the castle ready? Usually films do a lot of work on a location to make it fit the story, they could be like hanging banners or something. If you really wanna go for it, lights and camera equipment are normally stored in some sort of box truck. Oh yknow what could be cool? You could use some lime green tiles and make it look like theyve put up greenscreen or blue screen somewhere! Oh and crew members on set usually wear a lot of black, sort of a culture thing, sort of a "don't show up in reflections" thing. Sorry I got excited!
Great work as always. The film crew is a great idea but maybe therefore a food truck and trailers for the actors/makeup? And some wooden structures around the castle, stables, pig stys etc, to add variation? Or a gift shop if running with the modern day setting!
If you have a field that is only partially harvested, you absolutely should add a tractor that is in the process of harvesting, and i genuinely still think a very small vignette of a bear with a beehive being chased by bees would be hilarious
For the film set: you should add a small crash mat, so that knight doesn't hurt himself during that fall
Great idea!!
I was thinking the exact same thing
That would be great!
Yeah was going to say that🤣
And a catering table. With the director sitting on a chair holding a phone up talking about the next project.

I'd suggest adding tramlines to the field if you want to make it more realistic

And reading scripts
and def a few horses being dressed and cared for on the side

Wasn't the Keep usually the original building? A fort or such originally that as the area grew more prosperous the Lord would build up.

Love to watch speed build ❤ I know it's a lot of work behind but believe me its worth it- I can watch that over and over again 😅
"Fine story telling, if you ask me." Haha. No arrogance at all. Love it. I haven't seen this done before. The progress is amazing.
Man I haven't watched you in a couple of months, but I came to watch this one as it appeared in my recommended. And boy will I tell you I was shocked at how much has changed in the city! Amazing work, keep it up!!!
You know I think Wayne manor with the Batcave underneath it, would be cool so that way you're lego city has a protecter from crime.
And if you do decide to do this you should add some, secret rooms and you should have the entrance to the Batcave be, behind a grandfather clock but that's up to you.
I had been following for a while and I can confidently say this channel has the most impressive building techniques I’ve ever seen, I always look forward to new episodes
"So, how many 'illegal' Lego techniques have you employed to build your megaproject?"
"Yes."
You could make a small grey tractor (similar to one of legos first toys) and put it in the wheat field could be a fun Easter egg
Your videos are the most relaxing things to watch for me after work. It's amazing. Thanks a lot !
A lot of castles have large wooden sections on top, where the walls are made of wood. maybe you can keep the tower you have there, and simply add a wooden section on top?
Maybe a truck for the film crew? And a few cars? Not in the castle but a bit outside of course.
These updates always brighten my day. Thanks for all your hard work!
I like the vineyards beside the castle, but it is only visible from 1 side angles.
Your Lego city is amazing, I love how it keeps expanding and your attention to detail.
Amazing work! You must have the patience level of a Buddha. Thank you for sharing your time with us all. Truly wonderful.
I'm SO glad you didn't stick with just a knight battle in the castle, good thinking adding the film crew!! Fits the time period so much better!
The construction crew in the house is such a great idea, it gives an in-world explanation for the small holes in the floor lol
"the king of my castle" , that was the song i was thinking about last few days. thank you !!!
Every upload makes me so happy. My poor ass can live my Lego dream vicariously through you. Amazing work as always.
Great work as always. The film crew is a great idea but maybe therefore a food truck and trailers for the actors/makeup? And some wooden structures around the castle, stables, pig stys etc, to add variation? Or a gift shop if running with the modern day setting!
the filming crew is so cool! always love seeing a new upload pop up in my notifications
Moat of the impressivst lego mocs you can imagine. Awesome. Keep up the good work.
Watching these videos is like a natural high
If you have a field that is only partially harvested, you absolutely should add a tractor that is in the process of harvesting, and i genuinely still think a very small vignette of a bear with a beehive being chased by bees would be hilarious
Another fantastic update. Every one is a winner. Castle looks amazing.
