Ive been in the industry 37 years. Last year I was in Newman WA with a major client looking at their fleet. He said they would like the hilux/prado engine and box in the 70 ahead of the v8. 14 months later here we are. Despite being allowed to drive anything my personal car of choice has been landcruiser (note profile pic of my cruisers), however, i hated the 300 series (tailgate, stupid position of fuel filter etc), sold my v8 dual cab (ive had 5 v8, and a 200) and bought…… a hilux. Why? I wnted to see if I could live with the 2.8 and the auto before spending the money on a new 70. Now, apart from a live axle front end and a body from 1984, the new 70 has the same features as a hilux. I think toyota are taking the mickey out of us. The under bonnet is a mess with hoses everywhere, the bonnet itself is tinny, the track hasnt changed, i could go on. Do I like the hilux? Yes its ok. Its got the personality of a fridge. Im gunna wait for a year and see what unfolds. In the meantime inwill keep driving my fj45 with a genuine 112,000km on the clock to remind me of what a real landcruiser once was
That’s a good idea getting the V8 if you plan on doing absolutely no 4x4ing. Hands down the most reliable vehicle for getting you………to the shops and back 😂
@MR-hu1bx what the hell are you on about? The only reason I or anyone where i am have this rig is for bush work here in Central Aus. We don't do mall crawlers here champ.
@@tonydoggett7627 That is the stupidest comment I have ever heard on RUclips and that's saying something. I am here putting Toyota diesels in Jeeps to improve them. American engines are crap except for one the original early 6BT. The rest are absolutely junk and don't bring up Chevy those are Isuzu, nothing wrong with Isuzu just not American. I run a shop were we promote better engines in vehicles. We are putting a 1VD-FTV in a Tacoma (hilux). To say something that stupid is really incredible, the American market is the least demanding market in the world. Australia relies on their vehicles, if the don't get you home you may not get home. If that happened here in the USA someone would sue someone into the dirt and they would set up a few more ugly arse cell towers in the middle of nowhere so millenials that can't even drive real vehicles would be able to survive. Grow Up!
@@Hiluxtaco It is not the fact they choose not to. The USA inflict so many fines on Toyota that they can not afford to. Such as VW and their diesels being fined over 1mpg! America want money and so desperate for it they are putting embargoes on everything they possibly can. They haven't made a payment to the world bank since 2009. Useless government wonderful people! Time to kick the idiots out of office again.
Surprised the 4cyl is only 55kgs lighter. Nobody's talking fuel consumption yet - won't get Prado economy when its shaped like a brick and GVM is 500kgs more. V8 gets max torque at 1200rpm. 4 cyl at 1600rpm. So the V8 may get better consumption in slow hard going. Hill Decent Control is only available on the auto because it needs it. Revs in top gear at 100kph on the highway with the 4cyl are the same as the V8 - 1900rpm. The V8 got a taller 5th gear in 2017. Need to load them to GVM and tow a big van to get some more realistic comparisons.
I had a 200series and it had an aweful 6 speed auto trans. Sure it was easy to drive but when towing you had to lock it into 4th gear at 2500rpm to stop the transmission fluid getting too hot. Is this one going to be just as bad and require lockup kits and other mods to make it drive better?
This 4 cylinder 70 series cannot beat the V8 version of 70 series, not even close. But this 4cyl will surely fill the market gap. Its V8 engine and manual gearbox make this vehicle even more lovable. It's a feeling that binds us to the vehicle. And the exhaust makes some of the best music I've ever heard.
Bhahaha mate the “V8” 1VD cruiser is the most shit thing Toyota ever released! The only good thing about it is the way it looks and sounds. The most useless car off road ever!
Engine size doesn‘t really matter much. Look at all the old G Wagons. They never had engines as big as the LCs and they’re still alive. Additionally the 2.8 has proven itself over the years in Prados and Hiluxs.
I’ve had an LC76 4.5L for many years. When I sold it, I immediately ordered a brand-new LC79 4.5L. Unfortunately, after waiting for almost two years, I received a call from my local dealer informing me that my car would be delivered by the end of December 2023, but in a new, ‘lifted face’ shape. I had a test drive in the new model LC79, but with a 2.8L engine. My opinion is clear: this car is ugly and terrible. Toyota has destroyed its iconic model with their own hands. The new model looks terrible and awkward. Moreover, I don’t know why, but the 2.8L engine feels weak, and its automatic gearbox operates like the very first automatic gearboxes on the market, in their worst form. I can’t understand why an automatic gearbox is needed for serious off-road driving. It results in a loss of full control over the car, the ability to push start, and much more. Is this an improvement? Absolutely not! I had to cancel my order. It’s nothing but an LGBT variant of the old version. Why it costs more is still a big question.

Big thumbs up for calling Fraser Island island what it is. 👍👍👍
I like the new styling and the other updates, picked up the v8 model a couple weeks back.

It's a bloomin' tragedy that we don't get these trucks here in the States!

@@tonydoggett7627 No they wouldn't. Toyota could sell these right along with their other vehicles. They simply choose not to..

Different wheel track not fixed lol. I'll keep my 75 series thanks.
Just imagine how good this truck would be with the 3.3L V6 auto from the Landcruiser wagon. Odd they specced the Hilux motor as the auto option.
lovely Ep and 4wd, but not 3 seats in the front in the base model thats firetrucked.

How come you blokes did not throw in the Iveco Daily in last year's 4x4 of the year?
Is a shame Toyota has Fortuner but not the 70 LC in Thailand 😢
How long is the wait time?
does this come with radar cruise control?
