buttermilk is classically a very lightly fermented whey product left after butter is churned. the tartness comes from the Lactobacillus that converts some of the Lactose into Lactic Acid. it is not common to find REAL buttermilk in most USA stores now. this is why the Milk + Vinegar substitute is used.

Nashville TN is to country music artists, songwriters, producers, etc what Hollywood is to actors. It is the home state of Dolly Parton and so many many others who are forever in our hearts and minds.
A must see in Tennessee is Cades Cove National Park. There is a campground, picnic area, and a historic one way 11 mile loop you can drive or bicycle (did that when I was a teenager) which shows how life was for the early settlers which original homes you can tour, a working grist mill, etc and gorgeous scenery. It is not far from Gatlinburg TN. BTW lavender can relex you to the point of sleepiness which is why some parents bathe their infants before bedtime with baby soap infused with lavender.
What she called bowl warmers are meant to be put under your bowl when you put it in the microwave to act as a "potholder" when you are taking it out. They do not warm the bowl. They are meant to keep your hands from getting too warm when you are handling hot items.
Since I was born and raised in Ohio, I had several opportunities to visit the incredible state of Tennessee. I can attest to the unbelievable beauty of the great state. It is an incredible place and the Great Smokey Mountains must be seen to be believed. There are parts of Eastern Tennessee that simply will take your breath away with their beauty. I now live in the great State of Wyoming, and hope to send my box soon. No parks on earth will ever measure up to what we have in Yellowstone, but I must admit to a certain peace in my heart to sit and watch the "smokey" mountains. They are simply incredible. Just so you are aware, you can make your own buttermilk. There are people on RUclips who will show you how if you type in "recipe for homemade buttermilk." You can also find recipes for "homemade cornbread." That was such a wonderful box from Joanne. Thank you so much for sharing. This one was a pure joy to watch. God bless and much love.
The square fabric bowl holder is to use in the microwave. So you won't burn your hands taking bowl out after heating up food in bowl. Place bowl in fabric holder before you put your bowl of food in the microwave.
To make cornbread from scratch, you have to have a cast iron skillet. Southerners do not use yellow corn meal ever for corn bread. So you will need white corn meal. Buttermilk is highly recommended. in cornbread.
Square fabric with bowl are called "huggables." Place bowl of food in center of huggable, put in microwave, heat, & remove without burning hands. Put bowl of ice cream in huggable so hands don't get cold. You can place ice cream scoop in hot water to help scooping easier if you can't wait for it to warm up from your hand. Something you might add to your amazon list are glass casserole dishes if you want some. Pyrex is a good brand. (I have had the same Pyrex casserole dishes & pie plates for more than 45 years.)
Recky! How dare you open gifts from a Tennessean while wearing an Alabama shirt!! 😂😂 Joking. They’re big collegiate sports rivals. I’m actually wearing an Alabama hoodie right now. I’m not a native Tennessean but I have lived here for 47 of my 60 years. It’s a great place to be from!
I was coming on here to say the same thing! 😂 I’m a Tennessee girl, and that Bama shirt is not for me. The rivalry is all in good fun…for most of us. 🧡🧡
You can get brochures and maps at welcome centers, on major highways going into each state. It's a way they promote tourism. The Appalachian mountains, cover many states. I'm from North Carolina. We have the Great Smoky Mountains on the other side of Tennessee. The Cherokee Indian tribe has a reservation there. It's a tourist attraction also. Enjoy your videos, May you have many subscribers.
y'all and your kitty kids are just darling! you make it easy for your community to love you! and that moa; i think there is something really special about her.
The Dolly socks represent Dolly Parton. She is from Tennessee and even has her own theme park called Dollywood in Tennessee. She is known for being a generous supporter of her home state and the people who live there.
I was born in Humblodt Tennessee, lived in West Tennessee most of my life. Tennessee is my home even though I live in Texas. I miss home sometimes.❤ BTW someone needs to send Carol some Home Canned Chow-Chow. It's great on many things.. Love the unboxings! ❤
@reckyNcarol canned, meaning sealed in glass jar. Not a can you must open with can opener. I'm not sure the process of canning is, but I bet your viewers could help. Then again, there is always you tube. Lol.
Tennessee is a beautiful place. I’ve traveled all 50 states, and Tennessee is high on my favorite list. Buttermilk is just milk with all the butter fat removed. I can’t even imagine why you can’t buy it. It’s easy enough to make, just get cream, make butter, the milky substance left is buttermilk. Some people drink it as is, but I think it tastes nasty. It’s good as an ingredient in things. Carol, you are just so sweet! Recky, you kind! A lovely couple!
My son and I try to take a trip to the Smoky Mountains each Autumn. The autumn colors on the leaves are spectacular. We are even thinking of buying a house there and maybe making it into an AirBnB. That way we can always have a place to stay in the Fall😁. It’s one of my favorite places.
North and South is about the Civil War 1861-1865. The Northern States mostly fought for the North, Southern States, mostly for the South. I have ancestors and relatives who were from TN who fought on both sides. Same as my ancestors/relatives in Louisiana, some from North, some from South, and one fought for both (that's a story!).
Carol when you open those jellies and sauces make sure not to dip into jar that contaminated it just spoon some out into bowl then the remaining should be good for months in refrigeration
West Virginia should be on there ,Lol. You missed us. But We Love You very much. Keep up the fantastic work and I’m so happy you got your new home. Very much looking forward to seeing you film from there. Kisses for the kitties and hugs for all.

Carol, buttermilk is easy to make. Just take 1 cup of milk, stir in 1tsp. of lemon juice and let it sit for 5 minutes. A lot of biscuit recipes use buttermilk and even pancakes. It's really delicious. Or you can stir together 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup of sour cream and it's a perfect substitute. I use this one the most.
My wife and I love pepper jam. We like to soften cream cheese, spread it on crackers and add a dollop of pepper jam on top. Recky might be able to enjoy it that way since the dairy of the cream cheese helps dial the heat down to a tolerable flame. That was such a well thought out package and we truly enjoyed watching you two appreciate her kindness. Btw, buttermilk isn't sour milk but was originally the leftover liquid from churning butter. The milk naturally fermented as farmers waited for the cream to separate to the top. The cream was churned and became butter and the milk left in the churn was buttermilk with little flecks of butter still floating in it. Nowadays, buttermilk is made with milk that homogenized and pasteurized and then a lactide acid bacteria is added to turn it into buttermilk. I'm very surprised Sweden doesn't use buttermilk. For that kind of ice cream scoop, dig partly into the ice cream and scoop it along the side and if done right, it will scoop inside itself and make a perfect scoop. It will be fun to practice. The kind of scoop warms it with your hand so helps to scoop it.
You can make buttermilk by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar for each cup of milk. Just let it sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes
Substitutions to use for buttermilk if you don't have any: 1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup plain yogurt or Greek yogurt. 1 cup buttermilk = ¾ cup sour cream + ¼ cup water or milk. 1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice. 1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar (distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar) 1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 3/4 teaspoons cream of tartar 1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup water + 1/4 cup buttermilk powder

Recky should read The Perfume if he hasn't already. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is a 1985 literary historical fantasy novel by German writer Patrick Süskind. The novel explores the sense of smell and its relationship with the emotional meanings that scents may have. Of course, the book is better than the movie.
With that ice cream scoop, if you take a cup /bowl of warm water and dip the scoop in the water then scoop into the ice cream it will make it easier to scoop out.
Hi Recky and Carol, make your own buttermilk. So easy, one cup whole milk and add a tablespoon of lemon juice OR white vinegar. Let sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes till the milk slightly thickens. Enjoy! 😁
I'm from East Tennessee....literally an hour and 15 minutes from the smokey mountains and Gatlinburg...plus an hour away from the Appalachian trail on the Tennessee and North Carolina border. I wouldn't live anywhere else (I was born in Oregon and lived in 4 states before I was 14.. Oregon, Washington, Georgia, Missouri, and finally Tennessee). You definitely need to visit Tennessee! It's definitely worth the trip!
You can actually make your own buttermilk easy without souring it over time, just add either 1 teaspoon of lemon juise or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and leave it on your counter for a little bit and it'll curdle fast. I don't drink it but use it in cooking and it works great.
Southern buttermilk cornbread isn't sweet like the jiffy cornbread and that is why I prefer it over the jiffy for crumbling in soups and stews. Jiffy and southern cornbread are both great and adding butter while warm is even better. I love honey butter on mine. My Maw-Maw and I used to crumble left over cornbread in a glass and add sweet milk, salt, and black pepper and eat it as a snack.
I’m the south Martha white is a major brand of flour and products if you need buttermilk for a recipe just take whole milk and add a teaspoon of vinegar
Buttermilk is the milk that is left when you make butter from whole milk. I buy heavy cream milk put it in blender until butter separate an then use the milk left hence buttermilk to make my cornbread. I'm from Tennessee myself. It's hard to find real butter that's why I buy heavy cream milk an beat it an get butter off it an your blessed with the buttermilk that's left makes the best cornbread an biscuits.
The fabric bowl holders are to set your hot bowls of food in after they are removed from the microwave so that you can hold your bowls of food without burning your hands . Don't microwave them.

Don’t put the ice cream scoop in the dishwasher. It will damage its ability to warm up when you are scooping.
The shopping bags will come in handy when you move to your future house.
Buttermilk is made by adding 2 tablespoons of butter and a splash of lemon juice. Shake and refrigerate.

Butter milk is the milk left over after you make butter out of whole milk.
I enjoyed learning those facts about Tennessee. Wonderful to include! Your channel draws kind people to it. 💜
Buttermilk is a byproduct of making butter. After the whole milk is churned and the fat (butter) is gathered, what is left is buttermilk. It has been used for drinking, and cooking since people figured out how to make butter. No waste has always been a thing.
While cornmeal and corn flour are both made from milled, dried corn, they differ in texture completely. Cornmeal feels gritty, while corn flour is fine and smooth. The degree of milling determines the texture of the flour: corn flour is finely ground, while cornmeal is coarsely ground. It's really delicious. Or you can stir together 1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup of sour cream and it's a perfect substitute. I use this one the most.
Theses are both good substitutes! But if you like to churn your own butter, then you can easily make true buttermilk!
You can also use white vinegar instead of lemon juice but I don't know if one is better than the other.
I have the same ice cream scoop!
Substitutions to use for buttermilk if you don't have any:
1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup plain yogurt or Greek yogurt.
1 cup buttermilk = ¾ cup sour cream + ¼ cup water or milk.
1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice.
1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar (distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup milk + 1 3/4 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 cup buttermilk = 1 cup water + 1/4 cup buttermilk powder
This is so useful. Thank you for sharing! ✌🏼
Can't wait to see what's from Tennessee! Besides me. See you then!!
Maybe some Memphis BBQ, I wonder how that would travel to Sweden? :)
BBQ... you're making me hungry!
Best in the country! IMO
Lol it's definitely on the awesome list.
Definitely the best BBQ! SOOOO HAPPY to finally see Tennessee represented!!! Woohoo!

Hi Recky and Carol, make your own buttermilk. So easy, one cup whole milk and add a tablespoon of lemon juice OR white vinegar. Let sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes till the milk slightly thickens. Enjoy! 😁
Be careful that ice cream scoop maybe on that has liquid inside it.
Sweden has ONE waterfall.

I would use that raspberry jalapeño spread with your cheese board.
