I’m sure we will get a Mandalorian star fighter. It will be a $400 has lab project. Then they blow it up on the show. And we will get another Mandalorian ship the season after.

When when the last time we got an ARC-170? Z-95 Headhunter? Y-Wing? V-wing? V-19 Torrent? You get the point, they’re missing out on major sales by not making any vehicles for our figures.
Nice list Matt, I gotta say that the most obvious example where TVC did a better job is with Bo Katan. Much better face, hair and belt colour are more accurate. Swappable head/helmet. Just an all round great figure.
I love the Black Series but I definitely get jealous a lot of the TVC. They get more accesories, soft goods, and a much better character selection. They already have Aayla Secura, Barriss Offee, Luminara while BS is only just going to get Aayla. I will in fact from time to time get a TVC figure just because it's so good.
Good list Matt. I have a TVC bias because I've been collecting that scale since 1978, so I tend to like the 3.75" figures more than the 6". The one gripe I have about that Leia in Bounty Hunter disguise is that the thermal detonator is molded to her hand. I wish they had not done that.

Great video man! I am just starting on the whole "VC vs BS. Which should I collect?" And I have to admit, the similarities and differences some of the figures have is fascinating. Makes the choice all that difficult!
I love both. The 6 inch figures were a dream come true, since I always wanted Star Wars figures to display next to my Marvel Legends. That being said, I still adore the 3.75inch figures and continue to collect them! Admittedly, they're almost always better.
I'll say that price and bang-for-buck here. 6" looks impressive and when they level out to $20 you get a much more of a figure than 3.75 of the same character at whopping $15. OG 3.75s were great for $6 and triple sets for $20. I think Black series honestly pushed back old scale into a pit.
Buying TVC Jango Fett for $5 was a no brainer at the time. He had all his accessories to recreate the Kamino fight, Slave I dogfight, and even the deleted scenes on Geonosis where he was unmasked and wearing a poncho. Only nitpick is that his gauntlet blades were permanently extended. Odd choice considering it’s such a brief moment
True. Then again though, I always figured that the odd reason for that was probably so that the figure would stand out compared to the previous 2 Legacy Collection iterations of it apart from the acessories.
i've been a Black Series guy for a couple of years, but since the release of VC Captain Fordo i decided to get him and his Muunilist 10 squad, and man... i'm so in love with it. i think i will stick with VC for a time
I worked at Toys R Us building bicycles When the Toys R Us Vintage Collection exclusive At At came in I got one for myself. I still have it and still sealed in its shipping carton .Prices on these on Ebay are insane.I paid under $100.00 with my employee discount for it.
Dude, great video and agree with most of your selected comparisons that the TVC versions are better than the Black Series versions. But the very beginning of your video where you say “In the beginning was only the 3.75” but you show the Kenner 12” figures (Leia’s Barbie Doll hair, the weird short blade/big handle lightsabers, etc!). Just had to call you out because you can’t be a real Action Figure Nerd and do something like that! Admit it, admit it - you are a NORMY!!!! (LOL, all said in jest sir, fine video!). :-)
i think bo katan also did better in the tvc, i mean its kind of the same figure but shrunken down but i do like the way tvc did both the shoulder pads and the jet pack and also having a whole different head sculpt for the helmet is a better choice i feel than the removable helmet
I used to wish I collected tvc to start. Would've saved me some money also there seem to be more clone wars. However they're just overpriced imo. About $15. They should be $10. Especially when your ordering from bbts or dorkside and there's shipping involved. Just too pricey for what it is.
I mostly collect BS, but I can't argue that there are some VC that are really, really good. It's fun to have a bit of this and a bit of that. Great video. 👍
I think the main reason I went with collecting black series over vintage is the black series scales with most of the other figure lines I collect since all my main stuff is 6-7".
I love collecting both scales, but since I only have so much space for my collection, I only collect new characters who are first released exclusively in the Black Series (live-action Kanan Jarrus, for example), or my favorite characters (Luke Skywalker). Background characters, certain side characters (Dengar, Jawas, random astromech droids, etc.) just don't justify it for me. They look great, but I can't afford to buy them all either.
Totally disagree on Fennec. I think the Vintage one looks bad. She has the soft goods but in the show it seemed to be of a leather material which i think the rubber on the bs captures better. Also totally forgot Kit didnt come with a robe cuz mine has a custom one. 😂
I agree about ROTJ Boba Fett. The Black Series figure is almost completely ruined by the helmet, which is made from too soft of a plastic and is too easily warped by the unnecessary headsculpt underneath. The TVC Boba has the same non-removable removable helmet thing going on, but at least the helmet isn’t warped and distorted right out of the package. Really surprised that IG-11 and IG-88 aren’t on this list. The Black Series versions of both of those figures are underscaled garbage. Technically BS IG-11 is just a repaint of the crappy IG-88 figure, which makes him even worse. The TVC IG-11 is amazing. I also agree about Admiral Ackbar, the no-neck Black Series figure sucks. I would also add the Gamorrean Guard. While the Black Series Gamorrean might be technically better on many levels, the paint apps on the face are some of the worst I’ve seen in any toy line ever. It’s almost like vintage Polish bootleg quality, the figure looks so bad. Maybe they should have nixed the completely unnecessary opening mouth feature and given us a decent paint job on the Gamorrean’s face instead. But somehow Hasbro managed to give us a nearly perfectly painted TVC Gamorrean Guard almost 10 years earlier.
As beautiful as some of the black series figures are….lack of space, and the completionist in me makes it a “ no fly zone” for me. It’s 3.75” / old school scale for me!😂

Does quality actually matter or are we just locked into the line that we collect and cross off characters on a wanted checklist. ...not so sure about that. I certainly know i've gotten angry about one or the other Black Series figure after seeing how much better TVC did it. ...it is the size though, i just like the larger scale. The real reason though why TVC should always win is the world building, you just can have bigger vehicles and creatures for it because of the scale. Black Series messed up big on the Haslab Rancor campaign, and TVC just put out that Book of Boba Throne Room set and it ain't even a special Haslab thing, just a regular release. ...that is painful. I'm actually happy that i missed the Razor Crest Haslab... i don't know if i could have resisted.
I personally like both scales. Because I buy other 6 inch lines eg marvel legends, power rangers, and only buy the characters I like or grew up with, I tend to but the black series, so they all scale together on display. If that makes sense.

If Hasbro has any sense, they’ll redo the Black Series Jango Fett on the new Boba Fett buck and release it as a Deluxe with blast effects in AOTC packaging, especially for the 20th anniversary. In my opinion, the long term outlook for the Black Series line is not good unless they stop doing “Archive” releases of figures that are almost 10 years old now and start making more of the obscure characters from the original and prequel trilogy. No other line re-releases old figure’s, they make new updated versions with better paint and sculpting. Hasbro can only rely on Clone and Stormtrooper variants for so long before people get bored and lose interest. Trust me, the passionate collectors could careless about Carbonized, Credit and Gaming Greats lines when their is SO many characters who have never been made 🤷🏻♂️ c’mon Hasbro, get it together!
Personally I think people won't get tired of troopers, collectors never did with the older 3.75" lines. They were basically made to sell toys afterall. Because of this, easy trooper repaints are a much safer and cheaper option than niche characters who are more expensive to produce because you'd need to make new molds exclusive to them, and they're harder to sell. Also The Bad Batch is ongoing and there's likely going to be future Star Wars media revolving clone troopers as well as stormtroopers, so there's never going to be a shortage of new troopers to make. I should mention I primarily collect clone troopers so I am biased, but that doesn't make me any less of a "passionate collector". Also should mention that the Gaming Greats subline, like all exclusives, don't take up space on the general release main line, which is where niche characters should be released because that's where the new molds and sculpts are introduced. Exclusives are partially paid for by the retailer they're exclusive to, so Hasbro actually saves a lot of money on making those compared to their main line figures. It's also why they're re-use heavy. As Robo of Fwoosh said considering Gaming Greats, "if you don't want em, just don't buy em."
Big Nerdy, you should've labelled this video "Why I love soft goods" cause to me that seems like your big selling point with most of these, that they come with soft goods, and while they're nice and all, it doesn't seem like a big enough point to say they crush the BS series ones.
I reckon that the BS is the comercial one, friends of mine who like Star Wars but aren’t into collecting they buy BS. TVC is the collectors line, definitely is the superior line, two Haslab and a world building that BS will always dream. TVC is the heritage of SW toys Despite of that, BS is more appealing to new collectors due to 6 scale popularity overall and always getting things first and being very well sculpted most of the times
what about season 7 Ahsoka? in my opinion the TVC version is far and away better than the TBS, even though i prefer 6 inch myself. vintage got the complete new sculpt treatment while black series reused a lot of the Rebels Ahsoka.
Surprised you didn't mention the prototype boba fett.. The weapons, belts and holsters on the vc are correct and different to the regular fett where as with the black series pulled a fast 1 and simply painted the regular fett white to make it "look like" the prototype armour so the belts, weapons and holsters on the black series are wrong.
Black series dose that stupid thing where the clones have a sculpted head that is un painted and glued on, vintage on the other hand has fully painted clone heads with removable helmet. It seems hasbro gets more cheap and gives ppl the shaft with black series, but vintage seems to go all out. I like collecting black series more but they seem to get crappy when compared to vintage

Bo Kattan is definitely missing from this list. Some of my friends who are hard-core TBS6 collectors were drooling when they saw my TVC Bo Kattan.

I started with TBS Kylo #45 that I got at Target. Then the Falcon released for TVC and I sold nearly all my Black Series… This is the way

3.75 is a toy/model, black series is mostly a model

The weapons, belts and holsters on the vc are correct and different to the regular fett where as with the black series pulled a fast 1 and simply painted the regular fett white to make it "look like" the prototype armour so the belts, weapons and holsters on the black series are wrong.
Black series dose that stupid thing where the clones have a sculpted head that is un painted and glued on, vintage on the other hand has fully painted clone heads with removable helmet. It seems hasbro gets more cheap and gives ppl the shaft with black series, but vintage seems to go all out. I like collecting black series more but they seem to get crappy when compared to vintage
