The truth is most popular kenyan movies apart form Mission to Rescue, have a common theme/script around it- e.g Nairobi half life, Click click bang, Pepeta, Volume etc
Im a huge fan of Kenyan films and apart from the storyline conversation that has been going on, I have another question on the filter used in the films... there is a certain brownish filter in almost all Kenyan shows. why don't we have nice clear clean pictures?
Honestly I'd already watched Gomorrah the SA version of Salem. I learnt about Salem later. Just like Kina and The River. But Sanaa and Jimmy Gathu made me watch Kina.
The mainstream media is the main reason we feel like our stories are the same. Msee aliimba Ngoma ya Maria ndio ameimba Ngoma ya Becky. I am certain they are using the same crew, same writers alafu actors wanabadilisha mmoja ama wawili. Kenyan films, I am sorry to say this, lack great dialogues. Our writers are afraid of writing dialogue and monologues. If you think that is not truth tell me one line from our films that every Kenyan can relate to. Let's go to the films that actually have what it takes to be on the mainstream media, I am talking about the shows on showmax, netflix, maisha magic and any other platform that isn't mainstream media. Millions of Kenyans cannot access these shows, I am speaking from experience here, I have only seen Salem recently long after it had began to air. The point here is that our mainstream media should stop with these shit shows they bring on our screens every day, they know they have the consumers and it's like they are afraid. Wanajua Kenyans wanapenda drama but what they don't know is that the internet is finally something accessible to everyone and soon those ratings will drop drastically if they don't change their content.
