one of the best song that is actually sad while the song is actually talking about lets be happy.
hey dawg 👀
In this song he comite suicide and say to his mother to be happy and not be sad/hurt (아프지 말고 =don't be hurt) and he said to himself :"let's be happy" because he's gonna die and don't be hurt anymore
@@akemilovearmy8493 Rubbish, there's zero credence to that. His own description of the song, and why he wrote it, are nothing to do with suicide.
coz normally we don't say this line unless we're experiencing something extremely sad or emotional
@akemilovearmy8493 i think i agree because when he explain he on bridge, a place usuall people commit suicide
best korean song i've ever heard so far..... the meaning of this song is the bestttt
what is the meaning
It's about family and wishing them all great health and that bittersweet feeling towards being afraid of letting them down. Also, the song does create that sad and lonely image of knowing your parents are working hard to provide for you and your siblings...
Zion T. did say this song took only 30 minutes to write and he was on a plane back to Korea, really stressed out about his music, and wrote this as a sort of letter to his family. Really sweet, imo
Yanghwa Bridge is also a place where people commit suicide, so his dad saying he was at Yanghwa Bridge is... :( It's a sad song, honestly...
@@kenykruzz2849 why would that person I think the original is always better
Y’all should listen to JKs ver. It’s so sad. JK changed the lyrics about his childhood. 🥺😪
at first if you listen to this song without knowing the lyrics meaning, you'll think this song is so soothing and makes us feel relaxed. but after you know the meaning of the lyrics, you'll cry.
No, you won't(other than for it being affectionate to his family). It's not hard to find his own conversations about the song.
when you learn that this song is actually about suicide. at first i was like many of you thinking wow, this song is so touching, zion is just simply asking that they be happy and not be "sick" the (apeujimalgo) part, can also be interpreted as "dont be hurt". if you think about it, the melancholy feel of this song. why is it not more happy, when he is mentioning all these good memories? why is he remembering these things. hes reflecting on these memories, looking through his past.
this could be seen as him hoping that from this point, he wishes that his family will be happy and be healthy. something very similar to what someone who commits suicide would hope. the part where his mom calls him and hes at the bridge. shes asking him if hes ok. symbolic, and then he goes into asking that his mom would please be happy. something that really shows this separation, of him dying in this point. would be how he would ask that everyone be happy in the beginning, but him leaving himself out of the happiness in the end. and hoping that his family and parents be happy. haengbokhaja + uri (beginning). eomma haengbokhaja (latter half of the song).
i learned about this new meaning from a few korean friends on my recent trip last week. and its amazing because i thought people were sad because it was just an emotional song from son to his family, and the simple request that everyone be happy and be joyful. but when i learned this, it gave me goosebumps, and now i can better understand the feelings behind this song and the way korean people interpret it~
im not a native korean speaker, and im not perfect with the translation but this is roughly what ive learned and wanted to share. because like many of you, i thought i fully understand the message in the song... that strong message. but this message was even stronger, and gave me goosebumps and i just had to share. hope you enjoy this new perspective on the song
And the fact that he says I’m at the bridge could imply that he jumped or contemplated
Wow I never realized. I only thought about how beautiful the song is... So sad 💔
Really? I figured out the meaning just listening to it the first time.... I guess cultural familiarity does make a difference, but still love this comment !
Long E you too much. Full of imagination. Hello wake up !
@@ririnfajrina8478 but they are correct... this song has a deeper meaning to it then you realise.
Don't know why I suddenly had the urge to listen to this song after Jonghyun's passing.
Jonghyun, don't be sick. Let's be happy. I wish I could have said this to him.
Megan same 😪 my heart is so heavy rn after listening to this song
Slowly, I'm in the process of accepting what happened. We will heal.
😢😭
Your comment made me cry. Even until now the void he created after leaving is as it is. Empty. And that emptiness is never going to be fulfilled. I hope you're resting in peace Jonghyun.
Same XC
Everyone. This song is NOT about suicide. please do not take it in that context. i know us Koreans have a high rate of suicides but to me personally, this song is not implying that. As a Korean-American, this is a song with a LOT of emotions but regret/guilt leading to suicide is not one of them. this song is a very hopeful, emotional, and sentimental song. here is some context i added for some of the lyrics that i thought was necessary.
VERSE 1
아침이면 머리맡에 놓인
별사탕에 라면땅에
every morning at dawn, he put star candy from ramen packet (sigh.. this made me so close to tearing up. back in the day in ramen snacks, not the ones you cook "bbushyuh bbushyuh?", there were little sugar candies shaped like stars in them. this made me jerk a tear back because of nostalgia and to me, it indirectly implies that his father is eating ramen snacks during his shift or for "dinner" instead of a full meal. he's happy to have this memory. this small little memory. damn )
CHORUS
아프지 말고 좀 아프지 말고
the "좀" is important. it's like "좀 jaebal" like .. come on, please..! dont get sick. hard to describe with words.
VERSE 3
그 때는 나 어릴 때는
back then, i was young
아무것도 몰랐네
so i didn't know
그 다리 위를 건너가는 기분을
what it felt like crossing that bridge
어디시냐고 어디냐고
to his father, "where are you? where are you?"
여쭤보면 아버지는 항상
whenever i ask, my father always ...
양화대교, 양화대교
"yanghwa bridge, yanghwa bridge"
이제 나는 서있네 그 다리 위에
now i'm standing on top of that bridge
he's being nostalgic and by standing on top of that bridge, he now understands what his father was going through. he can visualize himself from his father's shoes during that time when he was younger... and him standing "on top of yanghwa bridge" symbolizes accomplishment. coming from a past where he couldn't do anything because he was young meanwhile his father is working all night as a taxi driver, he was able to change it by becoming the breadwinner as an adult. notice how the music transitions into an epic "i won" type of instrumental when he says he's now standing on top of the bridge... :')
i am able to say this as my interpretation because i can empathize with Zion T's lyrics and so can anyone else who's grown up in a household who struggled. my dad was a truck driver working night shifts too.. i rarely saw my dad throughout high school cause he'd always be sleeping during the day. i then went off to college, etc etc. now i'm making six figures and felt accomplished as fuck for the sake of my family. never once thought about suicide and i dont believe that Zion T did as well. this song is about his accomplishments for him and his family. he's happy.
I think the beauty of songs and art in general, is its varied interpretation. People can enjoy the songs for different reasons and relate to the lyrics in the way they've interpreted it.
Although the song may not be about suicide per se, in another aspect, it could be him reflecting back. Maybe he was standing on that bridge about to commit suicide but then reflects back - about his dad, mom, family, what tjey went through for him and so decides not to commit suicide.
Not saying that's what it is; but point is, it's okay for people to interpret it their own way.
@@michellealriani3140 Zion.T's own description matches exactly as the original poster wrote it.
People(overwhelmingly non-Koreans it seems) are projecting a meaning, based on stereotyping anything to do with a bridge in Korea having to be about suicide.
Sure, people are free to draw their own meaning from something, but it's not really ok to say that's *what it actually means* . Turning a touching metaphorical 'letter' to his family into a song about suicide is destroying his intention. Can you imagine people constantly talking about suicide, for a song you wrote to appreciate your family?
According to what Zion.T said of what the song means, you are correct I don’t know why people are saying otherwise. Nor did I get that meaning when I read the lyrics the first time years ago, it seems quite nostalgic to the writer.
In South Korea, Around the time the father leaves work, children often call him and ask him, 'Where are you? When are you coming home?'". ZionT, like ordinary children, would have called his father's cell phone just in time for his father to return when he was a child. When ZionT was a child, his house was near the Yanghwa Bridge, so his father's saying, "I'm on the Yanghwa Bridge" meant he almost get to home. ZionT's father only returned home after midnight, but Kid Zion.T waited awake until then because he wanted to see his father. Expecting that father would buy something delicious and come home.
ZionT became famous after he became an adult, so he didn't get to go to his parents' house, but one day when he said he'd go to see them, his mother called him around the time ZionT arrived home and asked him, "Where are you now, my son?". ZionT said "I'm on the Yanghwa Bridge." He gave his mom the same answer that his father gave him back in the day.
When ZionT Giving his mother the same answer that his father said, he felt how his father felt when he returned to his family after work. And he hopes that he can call on his way to meet his parents in the future and say, "I'm on the Yanghwa Bridge." His wish is only possible if his parents live a long, healthy life. For this reason, ZionT is telling his family, "Let's be happy, don't get sick."
Best Song I've ever heard. The irony of it all was that It was just a story told ...of one's childhood and a simple request from a young son to his mother, "Oma, don't get sick." This is why this is so popular. It connects to everyone.
It depends some mothers kill there children.
The lyrics are so touching, I have so much respect for him 🙏🏿👏🏿
this song made me cry real tears! 😢😭😢😭❤
Queenie queen same fam

Till they're gone. Jonghyun i hope you're resting in peace there. I love ZionT for making such a beautiful song. It makes me cry every time i listen to this.

This is a really sad song. Why does it feels like something you'd say before committing a suicide. 😢
The bridge mentioned is where people go to commit suicide
I discovered this beautiful song thanks to Stray Kids. This is so beautiful. I have no words...

I always thought it was a sweet relaxing song but looking at the lyrics now just deepens my respect for Zion T. The song is able to connect to so many people and the meaning of it is beautiful.
I always think about my parents when I hear this song and how hard they’ve worked just to make me and my sibling happy.
의미가 깊어서 그가 노래를 연주 할 때 그는 나를 평화의 느낌으로 느끼게하고 감정의 현장을 친다 ㅠㅠ
I love the sound of his voice. It's soothing
I really find this song hard to sing because I can't follow his voice ㅠㅠㅠ
same
Super Jhenn it is actually really hard to cover songs from Zion T. He doesn't follow the 'normal' rhythm of the korean lunguage... Even some other singer/rapper had trouble with it like Choiza of Dynamic Duo (also amazing rapper) thought he was a foreigner, when he first met him 🙈
Try the produce 101 version.....girls singing....voices are sharper so a little bit clearer...( may be)
I sometimes cry hearing this, I can’t imagine how he felt creating it 🥺💖 god bless x
I love his voice it's so unique its really pleasing to hear 💓
such a soulful song. one of his finest works.
Learning korean language after listening to this song.....have listened & like kpop but this song.........pushed me to learn korean . Love the song and the voice just pulls you in......
This song made me cry,,so melted.. Love this song..
the lyrics is wonderful, i'm very impressed
The lyrics is actually simple, but touch you right to the middle of heart.
The true good music is you can feel it even when you don't understand the lyric. When I first hear it, it smell something sweet in the past but it is so sad right now. I can feel it. When I saw the MV. I thought this song is about missing home & want to go home. But after knowing the lyrics, yes,, it is all connect so deeply. Love it
I love Zion T voice 😍😍😍😍

Always make me cry :'(
everyone !!!! please lets be happy!!!!
Don't be sick. Let's be happy🌹❤
Gummy sang this song best. But we owe to the genius of Zion T for this seemingly simple but profoundly emotional song.
I wanna cry so bad but he's saying be happy throughout the song it's hard to.
This song really suits Hwang Yunseong's voice
