I'm a bit jealous of your butternut squash. Well done. We are eating beans as fast as we can, 6kg frozen as well, lots more to come. Kindly don't post a new video when I'm not around to watch. Only joking. See you at Malvern.
Thanks for the kind words Ken! Butternut squash is definitely a treat. Enjoy those beans, sounds like you’ve got a healthy stash going! I'll try not to post anything when you are not around 😊See you at Malvern!

I'm glad to see Sep come. I can begin concentrating on all the garden box work I need to do and get my new section set up for next year. Also start spreading my home made compost around.
Thanks for sharing your gardening plans Frank! It sounds like you’ve got an exciting project ahead. Keep spreading that compost and wishing you all the best with your garden boxes. Do send us some finished pictures!

Hi Chris, great to hear from you! Cut flower stems (scapes) 20cm/8" below umbels and dry in a paper bag for 7-14 days until the seed head is dry. Gently rub capsules to release the seeds. Store in a cool dry place away from sunlight!
Hello Neil, great to hear from you, they Wilkinson's. As with every garden tool I would always advise you buy the best you can afford, you will be rewarded with years of service if looked after!
Hi, I have just acquired an allotment plot which I am currently planning where to put my compost bays. I am considering doing the 3 bay system with pallets but the position of them is proving more tricky. It will be a cold composting bay so am I better putting it in full sun, partial shade or full shade? Thanks
That's amazing Laura, it sounds like an exciting project! For cold composting, partial shade can be a good option. It helps maintain moisture while allowing some heat from the sun to aid the decomposition process. Good luck with your allotment and check out our composting play list - thanks for watching!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 I certainly will.. but after watching Thursdays video I was wondering how did you plan your space? Ie. How many beds? How big they were going to be? Where to put your greenhouse and poly tunnel and your composting bays? This will be my next challenge and after doing some research it's rather overwhelming with conflicting advice.. thank you
@@laurathomason8693 Although each plot is 12ft x 14 ft as you see them, each bed is only 4ft wide. This enables you to plant 2 rows of the largest plants you would need. Also 4ft wide beds enable you to get to them from each side. If you are just starting work on just a few beds at a time to make them the best you can within your budget. It has taken since 2014 when we moved here for this veg garden to be where it is today. The greenhouse or poly tunnel need to go in a position where they will receive maximum sunlight to grow those lovely summer crops, but also to get the most sunlight for any winter crops. Take a few days and visit your plot at different times of the day so that you get an understanding of which position gets the maximum light and where any cold spots/frost pockets may be. There is no rush take your time so that you get the most out of your plot, work on small bits at a time, within a couple of seasons you will be on top of things and feeling confident in what you are doing!
