I’m absolutely shocked you did this song. I didn’t realize so many people knew of this song. So glad you like it!!!!
Nobody knows this song. They'll pull songs from emails from some of their favorites. I guarantee this was not heavily requested.
@@mikeharris3733 Everyone loves this song .
@@mikeharris3733 It was a number one in at least 6 countries and top 5 in at least 7 more countries. Everybody knows this song.
I'm 57. Grew up on 80s music. Never heard of this song or this group, and I'm thankful because I thought it was horrible. Can't be lucky forever though.
@@mikeharris3733 "I don't know it, therefore nobody knows it, and it sucks anyway." Found the American. Guess what, the world is bigger than your backyard. And it only 'sucks' because you don't get it. This song is very popular at sports events to warm up the crowd. Now, since you have nothing else to contribute, be so kind to fuck off and let everyone else enjoy the video.
In Europe, this song has become a stadium song, almost like We are the Champions by Queen. It is often played to set the mood, e.g. before football matches.
Wow, you guys surprised me with this! Opus is a terrific 80s band from Austria. While they had a few hits in Europe, this was the only one that broke through in the US. The singer's name is Herwig Rudisser (don't ask me to pronounce it!). While we're on the topic of 80s one-hit wonders, I'd love to recommend "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora, "Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti, "Hangin' On a Heart Attack" by Device, and "Obsession" by Animotion. Anyone agree?
I'd love to hear them react to KLF's "Justified and Ancient" they're not a one hit wonder, I'd just love for them to follow it up by watching a breakdown of just how weird their career is was!
"Obsession" by Animotion definitely!
@@CaptLoquaLacon That was the one with Tammy Wynette, right?
Agree - that whole Scritti Politti album “Cupid and Psyche 85” is amazing !🔥
I'm down for Baltimora
Loved it back in the 80s, and still in 2024..complete banger
Ohmygod! When I was travelling in Europe in the summer of 1985, this song was everywhere! I don't think I've heard it since. Thanks for taking me back to that time!
I was backpacking through Europe in '85, too! This song was everywhere, in every country we visited. What a great time that was!
I was in West Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the Summer of ‘85. This one and Tarzan Boy were everywhere.
Listening to this song is one of my clearest memories from this time. We spent the summer of 85 at a lake in Southern Austria, I was 6 years old and I still remember how the lyrics sounded to me without understanding English 🙂
One of those one-hit wonders that just didn't sound like anything else. The 80s was replete with such hits. This was one of those ones that both me and my mom both really liked, good memories.
I've always thought that if Toto and Yes collaborated on a song, it would sound like this.
@@Shrykespeare no
opus has many hits, just not in the us, cause its a german band
@@lorenzsabbaer7725 sorry, it's an austrian Band.
@@lorenzsabbaer7725 Austrian!!!
For everyone who likes soccer: this song is connected with the warming-up of Maradona. It's on RUclips under Warm-up Maradona UEFA cup semi-final 1989. He dances a little along to this song performed by a cover band in the stadium. I think this song is still played during the Napoli warm-up. This video made "Live is Life" even popular in South-America.
That footage of Maradona is simply iconic!
@@chrisbayliss3532 With his shoelaces undone! 😀
I was in the Olympia Stadion that day for the semi final and over 60,000 fans were transfixed on maradona during the warm up, over 30 years later and it's still a great memory, game ended 2-2 , Napoli won on the away rules and then won the final Vs VfB Stuttgart in 1989 .
@@gerald1108 I read an interview somewhere that the Stuttgart players were supposed to be warming up, however, they were left standing still watching Diego warm up for 20 minutes. Lol.
@@mjwilliamdenman4170 they played Bayern in semi and vFb Stuttgart in the final , not sure if he did it in the final as well but I can tell you the whole stadium was transfixed on him , remember even now after he had finished looking around at everyone and we all just smiled, because we realised we had just seen something that nobody would ever forget .
My introduction to Opus was getting this album from a German friend in my last summer in 1985 Berlin, Germany before returning to the States to go to college. To this day this is at least a weekly go-to for me. Fantastic group!
Try “Hands on the Air” from them. Also, for a nice treat react to Falco and Opus together performing “Rock Me Amadeus”.
As a rocker myself I love this song , Life is Life 🤟🏻👏🏻😍
This was a real anthem, everyone sang along! I think it's a one hit wonder for this Austrian band. This year the lyrics really apply. All concerts have been canceled or postponed for two years due to the pandemic. Now everything can finally be "normal" again and we have something to look forward to. “When we all give the power, we all give the best. Then you all get the power, you all get the best. Every minute of the future is a memory of the past.” That's what (most) artists are all about, performing and interacting with the audience and giving them a good time they remember. Glad you liked the song!
I have loved this song from the day it was released and ever since....Austria finest.
You can't listen to this song without thinking of Maradona doing his warm up
Another Austrian singer from this era who was pretty much a one hit wonder outside of mainland Europe with a true fire song was Falco with Rock me Amadeus. I think you will love that one too.
While Rock Me Amadeus was his biggest hit, Jeanny is his best song. Also a major hit in Europe.
I disagree a little. In the german speaking area of europe (Austria, Germany and Switzerland), he had multiple hit songs. He was definitely one of the first (Ggerman speaking) artists doing something that used to become Hip Hop. RIP Hansi Hölzl.
Greetings from Vienna, Austria! This was a song of my childhood. Thank's for this reaction! Follow you since you started.
Wow guys, you have once again transported me nearly forty years into the past with a sound that i had completely forgotten about. Back then, we thought that all music in the future would always move us the way these songs did. We didn't know back then that that feeling was just "One Moment in Time", and that the future would cast it away as garbage.
This is one of my favorite songs. It came out late 1985 (I graduated Class of 1986). I gave my 45 to our foreign exchange student. This is the first reaction I've seen to this song. Thank you!!!
I had the 45 too!
This group and the late singer-songwriter Falco did set a milestone on the Billboard Top 40 chart back in 1986. For the first time ever that two musical acts from the country of Austria hit the Billboard Top 40 chart at the same time. For the group Opus, this song was their one and only Top 40 hit in America. The song peaked at the #35 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early summer of 1986. A great song indeed!!!
Also a one hit wonder here in the UK. I liked it, it's upbeat and a great message. The eighties were so musically diverse. Much love from England 🏴
God this was huge in Germany in the 80s. Everyone was humming it everywhere.
I knew there was a reason i love your channel, its for random gems like this. Thanks guys
This song brings me back 25 years. I've always loved this song
This is such a fun song, I remember it from back in the day. It's a real ear worm, I guarantee, you'll be humming it for the next week or more! LOL
I've always thought it was a little silly to watch someone else reacting to a song but then I watched your Chicago songs reactions and ended up having as much fun as you did. I even became a subscriber to your channel. There is one more Chicago song that you have to listen to even if you don't use it in a video. The song is Now That You've Gone from the Chicago V album. It just builds and builds and the horns sound incredible. 5 minutes of Chicago Heaven. Anyway I really enjoy what you do and you both seem like great people.
They're infectious in the best way.
I'M GONNA GET FIRED, I found your channel last week and can't stop watching you guys reacting to all the songs I grew up with. You are great and love that you do this as a family. What a great role model for your children. Here are a few suggestions.....
Meatloaf - For Crying Out Loud (love song)
Meatloaf - I Would Do Anything For Love But I won't Do That
Jimmy Buffet - Fruitcakes (funny song about people)
Billy Thorpe - Children Of The Sun (fantastic song with great music and lyrics)
Blake Shelton - Some Beach (funny song about life)
Sugarland - Stay (Female Friday but a very sad song)
Same here! Fortunately I work from home so can play the videos loud 😄
I haven’t heard this song in 35 years. It’s like I remembered it.
A CLASSIC track still played often here in Germany. Catchy, chanting song want to see a crowd of Germans perk up….play ThIS! Europop at its best…….
Life is life rocks! Cool austrian 80s gem‼
I haven't heard this song in soo long, thank you for doing this reaction 🤗. This is going on my playlist right now. Yay robsquad👏!
Whenever I need a smile, I watch the video of Maradona dancing with a soccer ball to this song during warmups before a match.
The Maradona Song! I only see Diego warming up before the match with this song. I loved when they used it in Ted Lasso #FootballisLife
was a US Soldier in Germany 1985-1992 they would play is song every hour in every beer tent at every feast that you went to. So many drunk GI"s standing on tables belting this out at the top of their lungs! Great memories!
Anytime I hear this song I can only picture Diego Maradona pre-game warming up, dancing.
an 80s anthem! was a big hit all over the globe!!. ; )
This is my favorite ice hockey teams goal song. It has a special place in my heart. Guess how live I felt? Game 5, my team has the first chance to win the championship, 3rd period, score 3-4 and they scored game tying goal on the last second. The feeling was very live at that moment and of course the arena almost exploded. And then they won in OT.
Wow, I completely forgot about this song. I’m transported back to Junior High, blasting this song at full volume. Great memories!
Thanks for doing this song! I’m going immediately to download it.
I had never heard it before. Very fun!
I'll be honest. I didn't know this song until I heard the rather remarkable cover of it by the band Laibach. The difference between the two versions is as extreme as it's possible for a cover version to be. And considering the sheer number of very different cover versions Laibach has done this one very much stands out. It's crazy!
Same here!
I remember this song. 👍
If we're going for odd European bands then I'm going to throw Trio into the mix. If you want weird, you have to listen to Da Da Da by them.
This was a massive Hit in Europe. Number one i. Germany, In Suisse and others . Top ten in the UK. And Number 32 in the Billboard Charts.
I remember going through my big sisters 45s and found this and went through years of getting yelled at for constantly stealing it from her. Has been picking me up and keeping me there for decades.
Classic Maradona song 🇦🇷
Incredible simple and popular in the 80’s parties. This is was quite a hit. Every band in local summer fests would have this song in their playlist.
Enjoyed this.Maybe the second best pop song to come out of Austria behind Falco's Rock Me Amadeus.
This song is so popular in Europe. Love the title & message! 🥰 Life is Life 💜☮️
Don’t know if you have reacted to ‘Teach Your Children’ by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ( Deja Vu album)
Life is Life:
Charts 1985/86:
Germany Nr. 1
Austria Nr. 1
Switzerland Nr. 2
UK Nr. 6
US Billboard Nr. 32
Since everybody else is making suggestions, I'll again suggest "Ants Marching" (live version) by the Dave Matthews Band. You both will LOVE it!!
I lost track of how many suggestions I have made for music and movies.🤣
@@kimyanchus582 I keep telling myself that they'll get around to it... someday!
Yeah I think they would love that!
Yeah, this was a huge song. It's about shared celebration and experience. It's one of those songs that brings people together. Very simple and effective. Have not heard it in many years.
Ah yes. The summer of 1984. You had to be there. I was and I am so thankful.
I dig this song. I remember when it came out 😸
Such a great one hit wonder!!!
Remember this uplifting song from 1985, but weirdly whenever I hear it I think of Diego Maradona's warm up before a Napoli football game where he was juggling a football with this track paying in the stadium..... Or did I dream this lol.
Great reaction xxx
That IS how we all know this song! I think Klinsmann was saying he was juggling to the beat and they stopped their warm up to watch
They did have another big hit " Flyin' High" check the amazing live version with Falco as a guest singer.
Oh yeah! That live version with Falco is brilliant - his voice fit great into the mood of that ballad from Opus :D
I only knew of this song when I heard it in a windex commercial a couple of years ago. Had no idea it was from 1986. Never heard it anywhere during the 80's.
I think you would really enjoy Mouth and Macneal - "How Do you Do" or "Hello-A" an early 70's, similar fun style like this.
As long as you're fishing in 1985 for bands with one amazing standout hit ... you should check out Kayleigh by Marillion. (the 1985 extended / 4 minute version)
A new one to me! Thanks for the introduction. Cool tune.
it was f... hot Summer and this song sound out of every Garden!!!
New age kids learning about old age songs, hope you enjoyed this song.
I was going through some videos and ran across Billy Joel New York State of mind at the old gray whistle test I would love too see your reaction to it it has 2of your favorite instruments on that song o think you both will love it can’t wait too see your reaction
Holy crap, I haven't thought about this song in almost 40 years.
Such a damn catchy tune!!
You have to do "Stay" from Shakespeare's Sister on your Women's Friday.
It was No. 1 in the UK for 8 weeks.
Please watch to the very end as you see the Angel of Death disappear [struggle between life and death song].
Yes yes yes
YES Please!!! Was just watching this video last night and thinking the same thing!
Wow... that triggers some memorys... I'm a german grew up in the '90 child and until today (within the same age as mine) - when someone says na-na na na na... the whole crowd is absolutly loosing it... no difference in a club (Disco), a big music party or a fair party... na-na na na na and for the next 20 to 30 minutes the whole party sings. Even if the DJ wouldn't play it... who cares, we sing alone and it also not matters if you're tired, drunk, sober, you want pick up sister/brother/friend you will be part of the party... and you can only drive home if there's really really nobody anymore who's singing na-na na na na - thats the "law"! Back in the time we had partys where the DJ has to play it 2 or 3 times because he has no other chance... f* i think i'm old!🙁
Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells please.
This is their one and only hit. Nothing else to see here. But it was a fun song back in the day. Honestly doesnt hold up today. But glad you checked it out.
Man, talk about memory flashbacks of 80‘s German discos
It's a fun 80's tune. It was on the jukebox at our town arcade back in the day.
This is still played a lot in stadiums at sporting events in Europe and always appreciated
Brings back memories of 80's holidays in Ibiza.
oh cool , thanks for introducing me to this group !
Hey guys, I think you have fallen in to 1980s British holiday (Vacation) tunes. Every year millions of Brits would venture on their holidays to Europe and its islands, and inevitably there would be a Europop song that would suddenly smash in to the charts as it was would have been played in all the bars and clubs in Euroland. Happy memories of Sun, sea and sangria :-)
Ohhhh I've known this song from the get-go, and it's just as odd as it always has been...anyone's reaction will be priceless!!!! Thanks for posting, yall!~Guys, the goth dressed guys ARE the Opus band members, as they are as the booed country singers at the very beginning.
Wow I remember this song in a Stuttgart German nightclub 1984-86 when I was in the army
I've know this song since it came out but I've realized only now why I like it: It has a SKA-style vibe (like the band "Madness").
I strongly recommend that Jay and Amber and the Rob Squad Reactions "family" react to or (at least) listen to the Live Version of the wonderful song, "Rock Me Amadeus" !!:):) This Live Concert version - featuring Falco's fellow Austrian rock stars named Opus and KGB - is readily available via a RUclips search of "Rock Me Amadeus - Opus & Falco - Live: Graz Liebenau (1985)". This is a performance by the three artists noted above at the Liebenau (pronounced Lee-Ben-Ow) Music Festival, in the city of Graz (pronounced Grotz); Graz is coincidentally the hometown where Arnold Schwarzenegger was born and raised. This "Live Concert" version, of "Rock Me Amadeus", is MUCH, MUCH BETTER than the "Official" Studio recording and music video (with tuxedos and wigs); and that is taking into account that the "Official" Studio Recording and Music Video, as well as Official Video version of this "Live is Life" hit song - from Opus - are each, already, quite EXCELLENT !!!!!:):):):):)
Love all of your reaction guys, I especially adore these 70s and 80s memorable some of which hidden gem gold hits. Awesome job.
1986 Opus.... Festival de Viña Del Mar...........CL
Wow, I had forgotten all about this song! Love it!! 😊
When this song comes on my 80's compilation in the car it gets cranked right up ,it just lifts the heart :) Also I think the country band and the rockers were Opus dressed up.
This is the blueprint of "songs that get people together".
This version was recorded live only a couple days after they wrote it...
Always & forever- Heatwave, Soon as I get home- Babyface, Make it last forever- Keith Sweat & Breakin my heart- Mint Condition are some old school songs to react to
Flyin' High, you will love it, from the same band.
Daughtry… home 🏠
Oh we loved to hate this!Yet we all sang/foot tapped along x
It was a absolutely insane hit (in europe at least) for one year and then kinda got forgotten by many.
Oh gods, I happily forgot this song. 1984 - till now. Thank you. lol Geesh, what's next "Shaddup Your Face"? Ha!
I like how they each play 3 characters in the video
song is sooo cool total 80s trip
Opus is still performing and if anything have improved with age. They often perform in an opera house in Graz Austria around Christmas and rock with an orchestra, this song is always a huge hit drawing everyone to their feet 37 years later. Please, please react to more Foo Fighters! No word of a lie, they genuinely have at least 15 more amazing hits for you to check out!
Austria in the 1980s.. next to the eastern block. Europe was divided and people longed to unite it.
This song has been a long time favorite of mine. And you were right about it being a "everyone get together and dance and sing" joyful song - this video was filmed in Austria, the country where Opus is from. They set a record for the most participants in a video (most of which were just average citizens excited to sing and dance). ruclips.net/video/A2thPGWVELE/видео.html
