I could not believe the dead grass that came out of my St. Augustine. Since I had an area to dump it, after dethatching a front yard 100 x 40, I had 5 large piles of dead grass at least 6' wide and almost 4' high. Well worth the money.

Heck yea, game on Tony! If you need set up help, I have a video for that: SunJoe Dethatcher Scarifier Unboxing | Assembly | Q&A ruclips.net/video/pq02MrlkcB8/видео.html Glad I could assist ya!
I was super excited to have received my Sun Joe Dethatcher today via Amazon. I felt like a happy child on Christmas day. I look forward to test it out.
They are a blast. When I talk to folks I compare it to watching dr pimple popper, as the thatch just keeps coming and coming out, of what seems like, nowhere. Love to hear your thoughts when you use it!
I've had the SunJoe a few years now. I would suggest finding a way to slightly open the back cover so that the unit is not dragging the thatch. I use a bungee cord, but plan to put in something more permanent, such as a 1/4” all- thread.
Just got mine today, took it out of the box, did the minor assembly and got my yard done all within 30 min. Picked out way more thatch than I thought I had.
I just finished using this thing twice on my lawn. Amazing how much this pulls up. I quickly figured out that holding the back flap open maybe a third of the way with some bungee cords made the clumping problems vanish. Makes is much easier to push along.
Jamie, thanks for the comment. It really is a beast isn’t it. Crazy how a cheap flimsy piece of plastic can do soo much! Don’t take this as a slam (as it’s not), I just don’t see it as an issue at all. This whole video was shot on -10 setting (max lowest), 2 settings below the recommended 0 setting, and it was my wife pushing the machine. As you can see, outside recommended settings and a lady using it, super thick lawn. it didn’t have any issues. I think people really over think this aspect and make it a bigger issue then it really is. As the tines grab and pull, this machine actually semi pulls it’s self along(but this could be because I’m have it slammed soooo low out side of recommended settings lol). But with that said, your on to something there, just be cautious of debris, it can get ahold of it and shoot it at your legs if it’s open like that. I know people who have sent rocks through then bag. 😳
@@TheGreenerLawn Good point about not opening up the flap too much. Debris can definitely fly out the back of that sucker. And fast! Good idea to do this with long pants on perhaps. I also had it on the lowest setting. This may have been a mistake for the first time use since my lawn had never been dethatched before. So I may have been pulling up too much material in one pass. I think that made the machine a bit harder to push with the flap down and trapping so much material inside the unit. After the first cleanup, I did a second pass. With that pass, I raised the unit one notch and held the flap open a bit with the bungee cords. The discharge was much more even than the first pass. Not nearly as many clumps since the material wasn't getting trapped inside the machine then dumped out all at once. One thing to consider with running the unit with the flap partially open is that the motor will probably be working with less stress. With less material inside the unit flying around the tines, the motor can work easier. I can see this extending the life of the product as well as keeping the unit and your extension cord running cooler.
I love mine! Only issue I had is that after three lawns last season the gear wore down. So, I have to find the part in the machine and SunJoe will replace it.
Dadding All Day ohh wow, but it sounds like they will handle it? That’s admirable! Really seems like a solid machine for sure! I had worried that it would be flimsy, and not be able to do a thicker, long lawn. It proved me wrong! Thanks for the comment!
@@roba168 hey Rob, so the dethatching is not done on zones, it’s done by grass type, cool season or warm season grass. So if you have rye, Kentucky blue, fescue, you have a cool season lawn and you Dethatch in spring. If you have Bermuda, st Augustine, centipede, zoysia, or Bahia are warm season lawns and should be Dethatcher late spring early summer as it begins to actively grow. There are varying thoughts on dethatch some of these grass types, feel free to ask about your specific one. JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com
Professional here, use some wire or rope to lift the lid in the back a little so the grass don't stuck. Smoothes the process, but don't lift it too high becouse of stones and other things that can be shooted from blades.
So you have a great idea (and people should prob do it 💯 ), but to be honest, it never really clogged up, it kicked it out really easily, crazy enough. I’m supprised thinking about it after the fact.
I get better results with mine after I cutted1 1/2" off the front lip so that it does not dig in the ground all the time, block the rear door partially open( to let the dead grass out easier) and use not the racking tool but the scarificator. The scarificator blades add the advantage of creating "groves" in the soil for the fertilizer or seeds to lodge in. I use mine once in the spring ( I just did it yesterday) and once in the fall. Do it twice at 90 degrees from each other. I use my lawn mover to pick up the dead grass.
Solid use of the Scarifier, not its “intended”, but adaptations of tools is key! I’ve seen and been recommended the open the back hatch up a lot, but I didn’t see any issue with it. Do I agree it would help? Yea, but I’ve never experienced an issue with it yet.
The Sunjoe dethatcher is now on my wish list. It definitely would beat hand racking the lawn which is my current method to dethatch the lawn. It such a chore. 😂🤣🤦♀️. Thank you for sharing your video and info!🤗
OJ Hoang that raking is a pain, a chore, a no go! When you pull the trigger you will be addicted to the machine for sure! lol glad I could help get ya info!

@@matthermens1355 you will be pleasantly surprised 😂 it will feel flimsy (this is true) BUT as you can see it has power to pull. If you have any problems with it, sunjoe is awesome company to respond and help, for their 2 year warranty.
Awesome… thanks. Just ordered a SunJoe… looking forward to using it!! Can you comment on the scarifier please. How, why, and when should this be used? Thanks kindly. (One day later) - Ok… done… did my lawns and wow!! … got three huge and compacted garbage bags full of dried and yellow “thatch” with very little green grass in the mix. The SunJoe was awesome… performed extremely well. I was elated. It is now two weeks later and the lawns look fabulous!! Highly recommended 👍
You should! If your thatch and dead grass warrant it, you should use it! if your lucky enough to have solid organisms and temps that don’t give u issues, there is no need.
First pass is done and pulled out 3 - 55 gallon bags of dead grass on the 10 setting. My house was built in 93’ so I doubt this has ever been done. What I will say is this more than paid for itself for the $116.00 I invested. Going to germinate my grass seed then scarify and lay it down next week.
The grass seemed to clog so I used a couple of spring clamps to hold the catcher "door" open a couple of inches to allow the dead grass to come out clog free.
I ordered one of these through Amazon three months ago. Mine won’t be in until September so don’t order through Amazon. Looking forward to having one of these machines. My man Lawn Ginja highly recommend .

Newbie seeking advice from anyone!! Thx for the video. Your yard is nice to start with. I have a bumpy yard with creeping charlie and bellflower starting to take over in some spots. My plan was to use this, then seed and fertilize with Milogranite. Now I'm wondering if I scrape it through the weeds, will I spread it to the rest of the yard. Thank you.
I’d the weeds are not actively seeding, then no, you could alway use a herbicide first on your lawn let the weeds die back then start your process (draw back here is they herbicides will give you a time frame till you can seed, there is one tho that works!) But using the Dethatcher and then the Scarifier for the seed to have good seed to soil contact. You will be in the right direction. Feel free to email me at JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com for help.
Just moved into a new home. Ready to revive the lawn. Needs dethatching, has weeds present, and then I’d like to overseed. Do you think a weed n feed after dethatching would be too stressful? If so, maybe I just skip the weed n feed.
Honestly, I don’t like weed and feeds they put a herbicide all over your lawn, and if it doesn’t land on a weed, stick to it, it doesn’t kill any weeds but rather the microbes in the soil thst help our grass. I like spot sprays… Sorry off that soap box, your question, weed and feeds, are not good with seeding as they usually block seed germination or kill baby grass (short of a active called mesotrione). So if I was you, I would go with a starter fertilizer: shrsl.com/3nnmm
I would really like to get one of these. The price is right, for sure. However, I would need at least a 100' extension chord to do my, not that large, lawn. As a 50' cord that is needed would run over $80.00, I can't see spending that much more for a cord than I would for the dethatcher. The cord price is from Walmart.
lol I’m using 100 ft on from Home Depot; , that isn’t horrible. www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-100-ft-14-3-Cold-Weather-Extension-Cord-83100HY/309931956 www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-100-ft-14-3-Indoor-Outdoor-Extension-Cord-Red-and-Black-AW62609/100661437 I get it for sure!
great video and information. How do you protect the sprinkler heads when using the Sun Joe dethatcher. Obviously go around them but anything else we need to do?
I flag them, but to be 💯 honest I don’t think it could do much damage, machine is light, and I feel it would just bounce off it (lift up not cause issues).
?? How soon after dethatching should I set new seed in to the lawn? New to lawn care. Thanks Matt for suggesting the "The Greener Lawn". great video by the way!..
Right away, as you opened up the soil, and your seed needs seed to soil contact. With that said best time to seed is fall beginning in September. Second best is spring time. You can during the summer, just takes more water and time.
I can attest dethatcting once a year can not be the way. The English, dethatch many of times a year. I believe both spring and fall. For us northern cool season folk is almost a must
All lawns are different. It depends on Care, watering, feeding, environmental, etc. Some, you are very correct, they will need a dethatch bump often, and some others never need it. My lawn struggled from last year having the wettest spring on record for Utah. It drew all my roots up, causing a lot of drying out issues, causing more dead grass then normal for my lawn. So, that is 1/2 the reason I Dethatcher. The other reason was for a lawn leveling I really need, I didn’t want thatch under a bunch of sand.
Will add, you need an extension cord that will add cost if you don't have 50ft 14awg or 100ft 12awg cord. Still better results imo than the industrial rentals ive used in past.
The yard guy I was using brought chinch bugs to my yard, and now it is completely destroyed. It looks like thick weeds instead of grass. I just purchased a battery powered Sun Joe Dethatcher. Will this help me fix my problem.
If you have pest pressure still use bifenthrin, to kill them. Mind sending me pics to JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com ? Let’s see what your lawn needs.
Nope, wasn’t my machine. 🤷 worked just fine tho (I have since gotten my own and yes, they recommend 0,5,10 for Dethatch) .... lol I don’t understand the logic, tho, as Scarifier is suppose to dig ground soil and rip out roots and Dethatch just pulls the thatch... how could it be too bad for it... BUT YOU’RE CORRECT 👌🏻 (for what the manual says 🙃).
@@TheGreenerLawn thanks for the quick response!!! I think the reason they recommend a higher setting for the dethatcher is to preserve the pins. So as the pins wear down, you have more adjustments to go lower as the pins wear down. Since on these machines you cannot only replace the pins and you have to replace the entire barrel, it’s probably more cost effective that way!!!
@@hammertimee777 As it wasn’t mine, I just went with what the neighbor said.. Smart. I didn’t think of that. I know the Greenworks has replacement springs.... I think I subconsciously thought this did too... lol solid thought process!

Yes i see why your lawn is the way it is. really really thick and dry, its all the sun your have there. We never have this, but the best ever lawns in April and on wards. From Leicester England.

Great video! What about the power hit? Is manual Dethatch the better method? I’m looking at doing the power hit this summer for my TTTF in Maryland. Just wanted to get your opinion. Thanks.
Chris Osby manual dethatching- quick removal, below 75 degrees, doesn’t return nutrients, runs risk of damaging the lawn. Dthatch power hit- ruclips.net/video/3V18UrSAymc/видео.html Returns nutrients for grass and soil to feed on, not aggressive to turf at all, doesn’t work below 85 as a Dthatch product. In your case for summer, by far the power hit is better! You will not damage anything!
It looks like the front skirt was constantly digging in to the lawn and needing to be lifted. Perhaps cutting the bottom inch of plastic off the front skirt would make it easier to operate?
It was cause how unlevel my lawn was, it was hitting in sprinkler lines. I know right what your talking about. Newer versions have less issues from what I’ve been told.
Nothing mentioned, I just recommended it so we aren’t ripping out long grass. I took it down to 2.5” so that it stood ridge and didn’t lay over at all. I would recommend finding that level for your lawn! Btw, how ya been methodical?!? Long time! 😁
Methotical2 I agree, a battery version would rock! That cord was a trick. I came close to it a lot.... the only two reasons it’s for smaller lawns, One: extension cord length. Two: 13” wide.... it would do a million acres, if you could figure out the cord, and just take it 13” at a time!
@@TheGreenerLawn Hey. I am doing well, how about you and the family? I was eyeballing those snow capped mountains in the background and it reminded me when I lived in Salt Lake City.
that’s great glad all are well and healthy during these times! we are doing well, kids are antsy about school line .... they aren’t digging it! The mountains are still there and waiting your return to come ski them! Hey, while ur here u could play in my lawn 😁
Great job.....Have you used the scarifier? I'm thinking that would be the best attachment to use, just prior to overseeding? And if you have irrigation, I'm assuming that you'd need to flag the heads, if using the scarifier.
I have use the scarifier. It’s not tough enough to hurt heads but it’s never a bad idea to avoid him. So over seeding you would actually want to get all the thatch out of there versus the little teeny trenches that this is going to create. The scar fire is used to thin to healthy of grass that’s thickened up and it’s choking it’s own self out. It doesn’t remove enough material to use it alone.
lol.... I’m impressed that I pulled off a knot 🪢 that had a name! You have made my day lol! Thanks! Ohh I mean, I know what I was doing knot wise the whole time ..... 😝
I know you posted this 2 years ago, but I just bought one and I live in Utah too and I'm wondering if it's too late now to use it. We are supposed to have some warm weather coming up. What do you think?
If you have water, you are good to go because you have to water it afterwards if not your lawn will stress. Cool season is better than warm to use it in. You are in prime used time.
Your question is a quality question. It does feel cheap, you are correct but I picked this machine up three years ago. It has been used on my lawn roughly 6 times so that’s like 30,000 ft.² but I’ve lent it to no less than 30 people, so I know it has probably 150,000 ft.² through it. Because I’ve made my money from it from this video and the links so I have a few of these for people around me and Utah to use and this is the original one, and it just keeps going And their two year warranty on it is super solid for people who have had to use it from what I’ve heard.
Excellent video and beautiful lawn! I was just wondering though. I just purchased this Sun Joe and the instruction recommends not raking at -5 or-10, but I see you used -10. I apologize if this came up in the comments as I didn't read them all.
Lol this one was my neighbors machine (I was told how to use it.. not correctly), I got my self one and I rectified the statement in this video: SunJoe Dethatcher Scarifier Unboxing | Assembly | Q&A ruclips.net/video/pq02MrlkcB8/видео.html You are correct!
@@KM-bs1zu personally I didn’t feel or see any struggle, I personally tell every one to use it as it says in the manual ( I still use it on -10... lol) I like that setting, even tho it’s wrong 😂
SOO much material, it needs to be removed. That’s choking out the airflow to the soil, the microbes on the soil, the crowns of the plant, and reducing moisture in the soil as it’s being collected in the thatch. It’s too thick (above 1/2”). Below mulching is awesome.
First pass is the closest then work your way away from it that way each pass is going away from ur. If you notice it was closest to my flower bed first, that’s the closest to the outlet. Then I worked my way away towards my sidewalk. Way easier... first pass or two could be tricky then the cord will stay out of your way.
walking that slow with my 3 acres of TTTF would take till the US pays off all its debt. It did sound like a industrial hoover. Think best bet for me would be a billy goat model. Cool vid.....
Great video, appreciate the detailed information. I love being in the yard during the spring months, and keeping the grass green is a priority. I just saw this little machine today and definitely purchasing one of these for the spring :)
Glad I can be of assistance. I think you will love this machine, it can be addicting. Spring time is the best for sure, and green grass is a MUST! If you have any questions, or input please feel free to share.
Over half of my lawn is moss. what tool and setting should I try to physically remove the moss before overseeding this spring? I live in northwestern Wisconsin.
This SunJoe, with the Dethatcher on a 0..... why did I just feel like I was playing clue? If it’s super heavy you could attack it with the Scarifier, but -5 is all the aggressive I’d go... even 0 there as well... getting air so it can dry out, will help a ton.
Just picked one up after debating a few years. I've used a de-thatch blade on a lawn mower in the past. Just curious, How are the tines holding up on the de-thatcher ? I thought these were individually replaceable {not} The manual gives a part number for a new wheel. I'm guessin it ain't cheap ? Go to Sun Joes website, and all they have for parts are the screws used on the handle ?!
Really well, I have the green works one that are replaceable, and believe me there is a reason. They are Sho cheap and bendy, and pop off they needed to have replacements. I’m not scientific, but here is the difference , green works bendy, my 80 year old gma can bend (so like a two), this on this machine, that you can personally feel would be a 7-8 on bendy scale against the green works. And they are in the machine solid. The machine in this video, was not mine, and was passed around my neighborhood, to prob around an acre of dethatching, and no issues at all, and we ALL HAD IT IN THE WEONG SETTING!! Lol I got two now and they say for the Dethatcher go from 0 to 10 not -5 or -10. Wow fail, and no issues getting after the ground like that! They have passed it to 3 families that I know of those season for prob around another 20k sf. But things happen, but they built it to last not replace and be weak and flimsy. The whole machine is only $120... that reel can’t be too awfully bad? Is it a good thing thet they don’t have front and center the reel for replacement parts? Seems like they know something ... like it’s not worth the space on their website ... as not many are broken? 🤷♂️
Is this better than just buying a $15 dethatcher mower blade? I've used them before and they seem to do as good as this sun joe for a fraction of the price.
That’s a power rake, not designed to dig that thatch off the ground level, where thatch resides. It’s way better at removing material that is upright or dying grass. Buy it off amazon, run it, see for yourself return it if it’s doesn’t meet your expectations (I feel u will keep it, or I wouldn’t have you go through the hassle) . Great question tho!
To a certain degree, but not as well as you hope. ALSO, the scarier will be better, but make sure you have time to recover it and there aren’t any seeds on the plant, this will spread them.
We have zeon zoysia that was installed last summer and it desperately needs to be dethatched, but we have some brown patch throughout. Any rec on timing of dethatch related to antifungal treatment?
Zoysia traditionally you can not dethatch. Would you mind sending me pictures at JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com If you dethatch let it recover before antifungal. Dethatching will help the fungus, as it will allow it to dry, so it could be the answer... I’d be interested to see if your serif fungal issues this early.
Hey, So my lawnmower level is 5 (maximum which is 2 inches) Assuming I cut back to about level 3 (1 inch) and then dethatch.. and go over it with a level 3 or maybe a 4 the day after? Also - should I get the ground keeper 2 or no need once I have this? Thanks
No need, this will do what manual will do. Nice to have it, if you want to hit small spots down the way (when you don’t feel like pulling out an extension cord and sunjoe), but to use in combo, this will be a waste
How does your Toro Timemaster work at picking up the debris? I have an old Toro Recycler and it's horrible. After dethatching, I could only mow about 10 feet before the chute to the bag would clog and I had to empty the bag and clear the chute. I'm thinking of either replacing it with either a TimeMaster or a Honda and how well it picks up thatch debris is a big consideration for me.
Ryan Hochstrasser that was 1800 sq ft and I emptied it once on both passes. You can see it grabbed it and bagged it super well. I like this method over raking hands down.
Ryan Hochstrasser huge trick to this, and you might of done this, but if not, try this. Let the thatch dry before you mow, the dryer the better, it becomes so light and airy that it’s picked up easily and compacts super easily with out clogging. The wetter the grass, the harder time any mower will have picking it up and bagging it, as the grass clumps and is heavier. Sorry I missed this in the original answer.
@@TheGreenerLawn I appreciate the insight and quick response. I also enjoyed your video comparing the Timemaster vs your old Honda, which are the 2 mowers I've narrowed my search down to.
Loved the video! What grass do you have? I inherited a neglected zoysia lawn in FL and I am struggling on what I need to do to restore it to the glory I know zoysia can attain. I’m sure dethatching is a good step.
Dylan Hayek glad you loved it! Thank you! Kentucky blue grass (I live in Utah) Best thing you can do for your lawn right now would be give it nutrients, as it’s going to start the semi dormancy Florida goes through, but really check your watering to make sure your getting good water coverage (1” everywhere a week), and mow frequently and consistently. It makes a huge change doing the simple basics. Then think about this for next season 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 Normally a dethatching isn’t needed unless it is more then a 1/2” in zoysia. Also, it does better to do it when actively growing like June- early July. Feel free to reach out @ JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com if you want me to take a look at what you have going on!

I've had the SunJoe a few years now. I would suggest finding a way to slightly open the back cover so that the unit is not dragging the thatch. I use a bungee cord, but plan to put in something more permanent, such as a 1/4” all- thread.
smart!!
Just got mine today, took it out of the box, did the minor assembly and got my yard done all within 30 min. Picked out way more thatch than I thought I had.
CRAZY RIGHT?!? Friggin’ like dr pimple popper with how much there is in there when you think it’s a tiny amount!
@@JamieWardHD 💯 spot on! I see the motor
Heat being a prob for sure and in that case; releasing effort /debris is a spot on move! 💯🔥
They come with a catcher in the newer models
I love mine! Only issue I had is that after three lawns last season the gear wore down. So, I have to find the part in the machine and SunJoe will replace it.
Dadding All Day ohh wow, but it sounds like they will handle it? That’s admirable! Really seems like a solid machine for sure! I had worried that it would be flimsy, and not be able to do a thicker, long lawn. It proved me wrong! Thanks for the comment!
The Greener Lawn Oh yeah. Great company! The warranty on that thing is fantastic!
I had my sun joe for two years already and I can see it was definitely worth the investment, especially since I got it for $80 on sale.
Ahh heck ya! Solid stuff for sure! Can’t beat that sale deal!
This saved me hours of raking. The cord gets in the way. But a must have for the lawn.
It’s a real help for sure!

Heck yea Anthony! Glad I could help ya! Thing is a beast! Let me know if I can help ya out with anything!
@@TheGreenerLawn no love for the transition zones? When do we dethatch
This is an awesome product. I am wore out raking up and carrying away my thatch. Cant recommend it strong enough. Thanks for the vid.
Lots of work, but as you know, your lawn will love it! thanks sir for the feedback!
I've strongly considered manual (hand) dethatching the outlier areas of the lawn before and after using the machine dethatching.

I would say they are equally impressive! Lol thanks for the sub! I love the interaction and feedback, so feel free!!
Just bought one and as a landscaper I was skeptical but this video helped but that worry aside. We'll see how it holds up over multiple use
I have lent mine out several times over 2 years and no issues, they come with a 2 year warranty as well. Not pro level but def beast mode!
Saw this on amazon and I figured it was junk for the price they're asking. Guess i was wrong, soon it will be mine! It will pay for itself after a few uses compared to renting.
I really have to try this sunjoe. I have never dethatched my lawn before. Great video! Looks like it worked really well.
You should! If your thatch and dead grass warrant it, you should use it! if your lucky enough to have solid organisms and temps that don’t give u issues, there is no need.
Just bought one and today is the day I use it can’t wait.
Ohhh ohhhh ohh let me know how it goes! 👀
Never experienced it on the 801e, but I use a paint stick on the 805e so I 💚 your engineering
Can we take a minute to appreciate the snow capped mountains in the backdrop

@@TheGreenerLawn Thanks! watching it now
Newbie seeking advice from anyone!! Thank you.
I’d the weeds are not actively seeding, then no, you could alway use a herbicide first on your lawn let the weeds die back then start your process (draw back here is they herbicides will give you a time frame till you can seed, there is one tho that works!)
But using the Dethatcher and then the Scarifier for the seed to have good seed to soil contact.
I like spot sprays…
Sorry off that soap box, your question, weed and feeds, are not good with seeding as they usually block seed germination or kill baby grass (short of a active called mesotrione). So if I was you, I would go with a starter fertilizer: shrsl.com/3nnmm
The SunJoe is great. However, the cord is beyond annoying. I cant wait until they release a battery powered version.
Can’t argue that.... solid con and solution!
I would really like to get one of these. The price is right, for sure. However, I would need at least a 100' extension chord to do my, not that large, lawn. As a 50' cord that is needed would run over $80.00, I can't see spending that much more for a cord than I would for the dethatcher. The cord price is from Walmart.
lol I’m using 100 ft on from Home Depot; , that isn’t horrible.

what do you use to delimitate your garden from the lawn? do you use prefabricated concrete ones?
great video and information. How do you protect the sprinkler heads when using the Sun Joe dethatcher. Obviously go around them but anything else we need to do?
I flag them, but to be 💯 honest I don’t think it could do much damage, machine is light, and I feel it would just bounce off it (lift up not cause issues).
Thanks for posting this. I am starting to get into taking care of my lawn now and this little machine looks like exactly what I need.

SOOOOOO enjoyable, its addicting like watching one of those pimple popper shows.... lol
Wow, what an amazing machine! Thank you for the review of it! I’m going to have to pick one of these up! Love your channel!
They are worth it for sure! You should get one! Thank you for the support and love! Much appreciated!
💯 well said sir! You have to have this, or no juice for you!
The yard guy I was using brought chinch bugs to my yard, and now it is completely destroyed. It looks like thick weeds instead of grass. I just purchased a battery powered Sun Joe Dethatcher. Will this help me fix my problem.

Addicting! When using it in the heat….. water water water to rebound it!
Hey man, did you read the instruction? The -10 setting is for the sacrifier blade. For the dethatcher pins, you should use the taller settings.

Great video! What about the power hit? Is manual Dethatch the better method? I’m looking at doing the power hit this summer for my TTTF in Maryland. Just wanted to get your opinion. Thanks.
Chris Osby
manual dethatching- quick removal, below 75 degrees, doesn’t return nutrients, runs risk of damaging the lawn.
Dthatch power hit- ruclips.net/video/3V18UrSAymc/видео.html
Returns nutrients for grass and soil to feed on, not aggressive to turf at all, doesn’t work below 85 as a Dthatch product.
They need a battery powered version now and 4 of the same sized wheels. It looks like it really works, but seems to be limited for smaller lawns.
I came close to it a lot.... the only two reasons it’s for smaller lawns,
One: extension cord length.

@@TheGreenerLawn Where in Utah are you?
Cold me insane but I was not only impressed with Sun Joe but that clove hitch knot you used to hook up your extension cord :-)

Prtygrl44 true!
Another great video! Just used mine for the for the first time last week and it was a beast!
Heck yea, light weight, flimsy feeling... but performs like an absolute beast for sure!
It looks very cheaply made. How many times have you used it and how is it really holding up?
Your question is a quality question. It does feel cheap, you are correct but I picked this machine up three years ago. It has been used on my lawn roughly 6 times so that’s like 30,000 ft.² but I’ve lent it to no less than 30 people, so I know it has probably 150,000 ft.² through it. Because I’ve made my money from it from this video and the links so I have a few of these for people around me and Utah to use and this is the original one, and it just keeps going And their two year warranty on it is super solid for people who have had to use it from what I’ve heard.

Why not simply mulch the raised thatch into dus/natural Fert? Nice video
SOO much material, it needs to be removed. That’s choking out the airflow to the soil, the microbes on the soil, the crowns of the plant, and reducing moisture in the soil as it’s being collected in the thatch.
It’s too thick (above 1/2”). Below mulching is awesome.
Cord management was tedious. This was the first use of my de-thatcher. Any suggestion for cord management to keep from tripping/tangling the cord?
First pass is the closest then work your way away from it that way each pass is going away from ur. If you notice it was closest to my flower bed first, that’s the closest to the outlet. Then I worked my way away towards my sidewalk. Way easier... first pass or two could be tricky then the cord will stay out of your way.

@@TheGreenerLawn thank you for the quick response! Subscribed
@@John-rr7bf much appreciated, glad to assist!
Just bought one can’t wait to try it out
Marsha, your about to fall in love! Lol it’s addicting!
Just saw your video and I was wondering is this machine good for Saint Augustine grass. Tks
Short answer is yes, but if you want a longer answer that might help you understand it, watch this video: ruclips.net/video/4w7sElZvrC4/видео.html
Do you think that would work to get rid of crab grass that I've already sprayed, and is dead as a doornail?
To a certain degree, but not as well as you hope. ALSO, the scarier will be better, but make sure you have time to recover it and there aren’t any seeds on the plant, this will spread them.
@@TheGreenerLawn cool, thanks!
Great review! Your grass looks so good. The view in your neighborhood is beautiful! 🏔🏔
Thanks William, this really helped it to breathe! It is a spectacular view over towards the mountains! 💯 thank you
Thanks for sharing this video. This is helpful.
Glad I could help! Let me know if you have quesions
We have zeon zoysia that was installed last summer and it desperately needs to be dethatched, but we have some brown patch throughout. Any rec on timing of dethatch related to antifungal treatment?
Zoysia traditionally you can not dethatch. Would you mind sending me pictures at JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com
If you dethatch let it recover before antifungal. Dethatching will help the fungus, as it will allow it to dry, so it could be the answer...
I’d be interested to see if your serif fungal issues this early.
Great video. What’s the attachment you have attached to your mower?

@@TheGreenerLawn thanks!
💯
Can you also cut the weed growing in the lawn with this?
It will damage weeds but not per se cut them
Off.
Hey,
So my lawnmower level is 5 (maximum which is 2 inches)
Assuming I cut back to about level 3 (1 inch) and then dethatch.. and go over it with a level 3 or maybe a 4 the day after?
Also - should I get the ground keeper 2 or no need once I have this? Thanks
No need, this will do what manual will do. Nice to have it, if you want to hit small spots down the way (when you don’t feel like pulling out an extension cord and sunjoe), but to use in combo, this will be a waste
@@TheGreenerLawn thanks man. I’ll get cracking. I’m also investing in the hayter Harrier 48 VS mower. Time to upgrade from qualcast!
@@torquesporttv9078 well this is def game on for you!
@@TheGreenerLawn thanks can’t wait. Which mower do you use? I just wanted a roller mower and over here it’s mainly hayter or hyundai
@@torquesporttv9078 toro, where are you?
Ryan Hochstrasser your welcome! Glad I can be of assistance!
Hard Flex on every single person watching right now! Lol just order mine! Thanks
Lol love it! And best flex ever!
Loved the video! What grass do you have? I inherited a neglected zoysia lawn in FL and I am struggling on what I need to do to restore it to the glory I know zoysia can attain. I’m sure dethatching is a good step.
Dylan Hayek glad you loved it! Thank you!
Kentucky blue grass (I live in Utah)
Best thing you can do for your lawn right now would be give it nutrients, as it’s going to start the semi dormancy Florida goes through, but really check your watering to make sure your getting good water coverage (1” everywhere a week), and mow frequently and consistently. It makes a huge change doing the simple basics.
Then think about this for next season
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Normally a dethatching isn’t needed unless it is more then a 1/2” in zoysia. Also, it does better to do it when actively growing like June- early July.
Feel free to reach out @ JeremyofTheGreenerLawn@gmail.com if you want me to take a look at what you have going on!
Any suggestions for dealing with weeds? Like I said. I inherited a bit of a mess
Dylan Hayek what weeds specifically? There are better products for specific problems. General, I really like Tzone, and it’s safe for use on zoyzia
