Totally agree. Baseball is not like basketball or football where you can make sure your best player decides the game. One person doesn’t make that big a difference. Having said that, I think it’s true that the addition of Soto is what pushed the Yankees over the finish line to the World Series.
Soto isn’t a superstar. He’s only a star in the baseball world. Ohtani is not only a superstar, he’s an international superstar. I wouldn’t pay Soto more than $450 million.
That's your opinion...Soto can become a Superstar and already has the numbers at a young age to prove it! No one called Shohei a Superstar when he was 25 either!
Ohtani is boring...not as fun to watch! He looks like a statue at the plate with no expression on his face? What's so fun about that? I'd rather see Soto hit!
No athlete is worth the amount of money they are being paid. The salaries have become so ridiculous that regular Joe and his family are lucky to afford one game a year. And that’s really sad. I love live sports but I have to limit that enjoyment to a few times a year because I simply cannot afford anymore
you are worth what someone is willing to pay you. By definition, salaries are a definitive measure of worth. they are not worth it to you, because you don't make money off of them. The clubs wouldn't pay if they weren't making profits off of them
Nah a Penny pinching owner and him just being a genuine POS, and a shitty town thats destroyed any semblance of pity due to their actions. Both can be true. Soto is not worth 600m. He should be in the 350m contract range. Ohtani is the only player in the MLB worth 600-700m because he EASILY brings in 70m per year in advertising and sales alone.
@@w00deey12 HE did bring it in. Ohtani was alone worth $178m in sales, tickets, advertising and such in 2022 for the angels. When he first came to the angels he was bringing in around 50m in those, Again WELL worth the contract. When he started having massive success it skyrocketed.
Just because his defense isnt elite doesn't mean he's not building an amazing fan base!! Look at Harper defense not that great but has many fans! Soto will definitely have more and probably already does!
i dunno. the amount of money i’ve spent as a dodgers fan hasn’t changed at all since they signed ohtani. i only go to a few games a year so maybe im not the “you” in that statement. maybe season ticket holders are spending more?
I’m a Blue Jays fan and we’re in the race apparently. Think this is exactly our position, do you prefer Soto or Vladdy and Bo? Bo had one bad season but both are under 26 yo in their prime.
Nobody knows what Soto will do. All of these reports on media are nothing but a waste of time. You, at least, take a different look on this and suggest they get multiple players
I'm thinking the same as Dan here. OPS is overrated. He hit 41 homeruns and only hit .286...282 with runners in scoring position. So he gets on, hits for power but doesn't drive in many runs. You could get two Ace pitchers and position player who fits the bill just fine.
@kyle2441 talk about hyperbole...sheesh! Agree to disagree. I see your Yankees icon. Your team can keep him. As a Dodger fan, I have zero interest in my team signing him. If Soto really wants $701M, then, the team paying that is foolish. Ohtani got $700M because he is an ace pitcher and hitter.
@@coreyweber2340 go look at league average on-base than do Sotos... go look at look average ops and ops+ than look at his.... go look at how many players that has had 25 homeruns and 125 walks in a single season.. Hes not worth 600m. This is how you limit your team and make a catastrophic mistake. HE can play AMAZING for the next 8 years, but then they cant really sign anyone else. You are limited to a few max players (unless they differ a TON of the money) and then you have to fill in. Yankees already have Judge and Stanton AND Gerrit Coles contracts. They quite literally cannot sign more people without doing some financial gymnastics like the dodgers. The Dodgers owners are in win now mode, probably trying to win 3-5 championships then sell the team at the highest value to get a return on the investment.

Really good hitter unless he’s playing for my Padres
Marvin's analogy hit it on the head, for the means of this segment.

So owners should just take all the money and pay players less?😅
It seems like nobody realizes how deep the owners pockets are.
I don't like how he's constantly asking the umpires about pitches. It's gotta drive them crazy.
You are 100% correct
He's 100% wrong!
Hey Dan the Mets are still getting 3 players 🤷🏽♂️
Don’t think Soto gives one iota what your biased opinion is. Let him sign and be happy wherever he goes.
money is as objective as it gets, friend.
Moneyball left the Oakland Athletics homeless….
💯

@@ShimejiiGaming where are you getting these numbers from? I’d like to take a look at them
Don’t pay for average players. Soto is elite. Those 3 other guys would just be three dudes who are average players.

With the game on the line, there is no one I wouldn't want to face more. Power without the K's.
obviously i have no idea, just like the rest of you… but i don’t think the dodgers are REALLY in it.
Watch Soto hit. Every aspect. Really.
Who even watches baseball?
Bryce Harper is no good on the field! Who tunes in to see him? You want to seriously compare Soto to Harper? Soto is way better!
Oh can it already dan patrick… you’re irrelevant
Soto > than this 3 you’d want
Bobby Witt Jr, Corbin Burns,
Why do you all hate Soto so much, seriously re evaluate your life
It’s not hate. I’m a Yankees fan. And I don’t want to pay 600 million for him
