I KNOW how to drive in snow. I owned a snowplowing business for many years and I'm a veteran of many 18" and 24" blizzards. Now the best way to drive in black ice, freezing rain or whatever you call it is simple: DON'T!!!. There is no way to control a vehicle in that stuff, no matter how well equipped you may think you are. For example, once I was driving a smaller plow vehicle set up for parking lots; a Jeep CJ7 in 4WD, low low with chains on all 4 wheels. Despite my being as cautious as i knew how, the jeep spun around and did 2 complete 360° turns in the middle of the street with my solid steel plow barely missing my neighbors cars by inches. I will drive fearlessly through any snow with just front wheel drive. But ICE SCARES ME TO DEATH and it should scare you too. So remember, when driving on ice, JUST DON'T!!!
Thank you for telling people this. Others see the black ice highway crashes and say oh they were going too fast or couldn't drive. Those people have never experienced "black ice". Same here if ice is out then I'm staying safe indoors.
@garyslavinsky4201 You can't say that enough! First you're lucky if you even see the black ice before it's too late, there is no controlling a vehicle on it and if you do wreck you're still not safe because your safest place then is to stay in your vehicle because it will take the hit of other vehicles better than your body. The videos set to classical music of cars on ice are funny to watch but not funny to be in. People should watch them with it in their heads that those people are actually potentially in serious danger and imagine that they're all experienced winter drivers. (I'm sure they aren't but just imagine they are bc it really makes no difference) and the pile ups they cause endanger everyone including any first responders. Further you could be sitting in that mess for quite a while. It's simply not worth it.
Yep, totalled my first car in highschool because of a strip of ice in a blind curve. There's just nothing you can do about it, ice is slick, no way around it.

I hope you will be a trend setter that reports on weather systems that we all know do not observe borders :)
I live in Michigan and finally found a place that shows the radar areas that Canada has. It was a bit surprising to see how much of the country has no radar. You can’t depend too much on the freezing points because in most cases it will snow good and not mix much when below 36 and above 32. The moisture will build more but the temperature will drop in the column and lead to heavy snow.
