  • We have visited Nanortalik as part of our cruise voyage from Reykjavik, Iceland to New York, USA. Very small town in southern Greenland. In about 3 hours we walked from one end to another. It's cute, and somewhat Dutch looking town, populated by Greenland natives. Weather is cool to say the least. Even in July, we needed jackets. One unique detail I will always remember is that church, which was Christian, had a cross and under the cross was Jewish Hanukkah menorah. Somehow maybe their version of Christianity involves both religions. That's for you to find out. We also took a boat tour in Nonartalik, which took us up close to the icebergs. We even tried whiskey over ice of the iceberg. One way to tell, is by listening. Iceberg's ice, when melting produces crackling sound due to the oxygen trapped inside of it. I asked how old the ice in my glass could be. The guide replied: "I don't know, 100, 1000 years old, could be either." The views of this cute town are all in this video.
