I followed the these simple instructions and the lights went off. I also had watched a couple of other "fix it" videos for the same problem and went ahead and cleaned the gas cap and now it "clicks" again like it used to. Some of the below comments indicate the lights came back on within 2 weeks or so. I am writing this on 11-29-24. I will write an update if this "fix" doesn't hold and I have to do something else. Could happen... But if you are reading this review on or after Christmas 2024, I would say, it worked long term for me, so give it a go! And my thanks to FIRM400 for the valuable post!
I have lexus rx330 2005 my lights came on this morning going to try this now. Did this light went out and it was making a sound and idling rough got to checking and the coolant tank was empty put in coolant and back to normal I'm wondering if that is why the lights came on
I know this won't resolve the problem. I have 2002 RX300 and mine has the same problem. I scanned it at AutoZone and the error was P1135, which tells you that is an O2 Sensor error. So I needed to have my car get a new O2 Sensor Bank1 Sensor1 that cost $330. A few days later, the lamp came back on again. I scanned again, then I got an error as P0440, which tells you that is the gas cap problem. So I replaced it and disconnected the battery to reset the error. Yes, the problem still keeps coming back like every week. I'm trying to get another gas cap.
it worked! However be careful to take the car for state inspection after this because the computer system of the car will not throw all the data they need. You will need to drive for a few days for it to pass.

What caused the light to turn on?
You only have to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery not both

This is not a fix, its only a reset for the dash light

I removed the battery for the weekend and after putting the battery back, 10 miles later it came on

How about using obd 2 to erased the code but mine erased it and cameback the lights on for 1 to 2 days
