  • About 2 months ago I switched to CenturyLink fiber service. Incredible speeds, and a much lower price than I was getting with my former ISP. What's not to love? It turns out a lot! I learned that CenturyLink has about the worst customer service of ANY company I have ever dealt with.
Thank you Spectrum for saving the day and hooking me back up on short notice.

I agree. Centurylink is the sorriest company I’ve ever dealt with. My husband has been on phone with Centurylink in the Philippines for the past two days for help with new modem setup.
Number one is you can’t understand them and they can’t understand you After holding for an hour we was disconnected twice.
Do not go with Centurylink if you have other choices

Are you sure it was the Philippines? That's primarily an English speaking country. (They have a local language called Tagalog as well, but generally English is very good there.).
      But yes, it's very frustrating.

Been trying to get service for 5 months from them ! Lies , lies and more lies ! Most customer service are foreigners ( sound like middle easterners) and there is a huge language barrier, not just with accent but dialect of words used ! But it always comes down to them lying shamelessly ! The few that do communicate well , all work from home and it shows ! One white lady with a thick southern accent was drunk off her ass when she answered my call ! She was so drunk but she was also very helpful , lol ! I wasn’t even going to complain about her , I just wanted a manager to confirm her drunken story ! She freaked out and hung up - just silence ! This is a really bad company - not sure how they got to where they are !
P.s. they lie about sending engineers out to create a pair for my home ! Then they never show up !

My advice when needing customer service with any cable/internet provider is to forget calling if there is a local brick and mortar store. I've been dealing with TDS in Utah for 7 years, customer service via phone is much like your experience, maybe worse but going into their local office I got First Class service and was in and out in minutes. When I originally called to have service installed they couldn't find my address even though several other homes on my block had had service for years. My house was a new build so that might have been the problem, except when I went in to their office, OH there you are, we'll have an installer out in two days. Two days later I had internet.

I have been waiting over 5 months for Century link to repair my land line. I'm still getting a bill every month, I have to explain this every that there is a neighborhood outage, but try sending a tech to fix my land line and not the outage. I have to agree that Century link does not care.

Century Link is now Brightsomething in the south. I don't look for anything to improve . My internet and landline was out for a whole month. Took forever to finally get a live person on the phone. Of course it was in the Phillipines. The support person argued with me for 30 minutes that he'd never had a customer complain about not understanding what he said. Geesh! I did learn that even tho they ask for the last four digits of your social, you don't have to give it to them. I just told them, "No, I'm not giving you my social".

I'm having a similar nightmare experience, and they didn't show up for the appointment in the eight hour window, and they didn't call. They wouldn't reschedule for another week. I told several reps that I work from home, and I need this for my job, but they didn't care. They also passed me around, hung up on me several times or put me on terminal hold both on the phone and on chat. They also misdiagnosed the problem because there was no dsl light, and they sent me a $200 router that also doesn't work. They should have known it was a line problem. That's the summary of a very long horror story that I'm still going through. I will contact the FCC and the BBB and try to find another provider.

Our modem/router combo went out 2 weeks ago was told a replacement was being sent over night. Called in every day because the UPS label was made but the replacement still has not been sent. The tech reps are rude. One insisted he needed my full social even though no one else has needed it in at least 30 calls ( service is always out/being worked on). Requested supervisors and they refuse. Requested box to cancel my service and they said they cant do that until I get the replacement that still hasn't been sent. Recorded my calls and screen recorded my chats and now they wont talk to me.

Really hoping Starlink becomes available soon. Centurylink left me hanging again for 13 days to show up for a service call. In PA they are the only choice and have for now. They took government money to build themselves a fiber backbone and refuse to maintain or upgrade the copper wire that gives us phone and DSL. They leave large trees hanging on the wires for months after being reported endangering motorists and service. Just garbage service.

My wife and I like yourself would really struggle without a reliable connection so definitely in the same boat with it being paramount over speed and cost. Funny to think these days I could forgo a water/heating outage for days over our internet connection being out...! Take care, James

Question: if you didn’t have the issue where your service got disconnected and then wasn’t deactivated for whatever reason, would you have switched back? Hoping for an honest answer as someone who’s getting Century Link but keeping my current internet provider (Xfinity) until I know things are good.
I’ve experienced horrible customer service from Xfinity over the 10 years we have had them so I’m not sure Century Link is worse, but there’s a good chance. But there’s finally fiber where I live and is $150 cheaper than what I’m paying so I’m trying it out. These companies really have issues with customer service as a whole.

Oh that’s nothing. I really should share the mess I’ve had to deal with in 1 week. I’m going on the 5th tech coming out to try to fix my stuff. I’ve been waiting since April and it’s now august to get my internet just installed. The guy damaged my PlayStation. They gave me an old modem. My connections are SO inconsistent, dropping 3-400 megs at a time. They’ve drilled multiple holes into the side of my house and damaged drywall. Charged me for my first month 3 total times and never refunded one of those. Was told I wasn’t supposed to be charged for the pods, but I am. Was told the gift cards would get to me 4-6 weeks after install and then told its actually 3 months after you pay your first bill. I’m sure I’m missing some things, but I’m a disabled vet and I can’t afford Cox anymore so I’m stuck with this mess.

Sorry for your trouble, Mike. Can't believe CenturyLink has such incredibly horrible customer service, especially the phone people (not using the term 'phone support' with them). If you go back to CenturyLink for some reason, get a small business account. Same price and somewhat better support. Doubt you will go back, but just in case you do.

Thanks for sharing, I live in the "Great Northwest" in the state of Florida aka "The Original Redneck Riviera" rebranded as the "Emerald Coast". My parents have been with Century Link and its predecessors since the breaking up of "Ma Bell": there have many changes over the years; consequently I would have to conduct a search to obtain all the company name changes. Has anyone heard of any new information on the impact of "Lumen Technologies decision to sell parts of Century Link"? IMHO, we never got true "Hi-Speed" internet with our DSL. We plan to keep our landline, but we need greater bandwidth! Our Telephone Network Interface box looks bare bones compared to many others I have seen on the internet. The Customer Service with CenturyLink [and any of these Service Providers] SUCK they closed the local Brick & Mortar presence years ago and every time we call Customer Service we get either Mexico, India, Philippines or some other country overseas where it is hard to communicate and understand them; hence you are on the phone for 5, 6, 7 hours or longer sometimes two days. Centurylink is now Quantum, which I ordered 3 weeks ago and was installed last week, easy peasy. No problems. Nice mesh system with 4 units that plug into a wall socket and have two Ethernet plugs per unit. So nothing but good things to say. BTW, I was a very early adopter and was on the Internet back when the fastest speed for consumer was 300 baud. Have been using computers since the punchcard days.

I uses to work for Centurylink tech support.
I would always say "I used to care, but now I work for Centurylink :)"
Tech support job uses all sorts of metrics that evaluate your job performance. You have to hit those metrics to stay employed.
Most metrics didn't make sense. If I had to guess someone is getting a bonus if some ridiculous metric is hit ... Initiatives are set that often doing the wrong thing looks good on paper... You can do the wrong thing for the customer and stay employed or help the customer and be put on a performance improvement plan because your numbers look bad...
The environment is too frustrating for people who care and want to help. People who care are forced to quit or learn to not care.
I would never have CenturyLink if I needed a reliable connection. (unless I had a good backup plan)

    • @MikeFuryTech
      @MikeFuryTech  2 года назад

Thank you for that insight. I suspect you are spot on. Sadly, many organizations measure success using entirely the wrong KPIs. The only thing that should matter is customer satisfaction, because once you hit that, everything else that matters should follow.

They setup everything for me for the 1gb internet service and the day of setup the tech call me that he can only setup my system for 100/100 because their equipment it only support that speed and they don’t know when they can upgraded
