I have no dog in this fight and am not really sure that he meant "heroes" in the literal sense of the word, but I have heard that sometimes people save lives by inspiring others with their achievements to see something that might be worth sticking around for.
Mac told a story once about when he met Patty and they started getting serious (this was when he had a band) and he told her This is great we can make our own band and we can tour together...to which Patty said, But wait I want to play Wimbledon with you in mixed doubles...John replies You aren't a professional tennis player...Patty replies...exactly, you need to put the guitar down John!
At one point he was talking about touring with his band, and she put her foot down and said "if someone in this marriage is going on a tour with their band, it isn't going to be you!"
Patty was offered the job of lead singer for Van Halen after David Lee Roth left. Imagine what that would have been like.

I could hear her pulling off 'Runnin' With The Devil', by Van Halen actually. Sit back and just picture/ hear it in your head. Her voice is powerful and it has the perfect amount of raspiness to it.

JOHN did a great thing by marrying Patti. REally solid chemistry here between the two. I like their comfortable banter...that's a real marriage. I've always said the successful choice of a wife just might be the single greatest decision you'll ever make in your life. It leads you to happiness or misery.

Thanks SO much John and Patty for sharing with us. Wow. For those who've been in love and lost it's good to remember that love is real and beyond price.

Jane Beatty my daughter went to school with one of their daughters. All of their kids have wonderful manners; well brought up. You know what the secret is it doesn’t matter what the personalities of the parents are/what matters is how they interact and that it’s a house full of love. From what I understand these two have barely ever had a fight; very much in sync - True partners, with family as priority - and that’s why their kids came out great. Individual personalities really don’t come into play as long as the parents are nice people and the house is a harmonious one.
Patty is smart, has a sense of right and wrong, and has a spine. Guys like that in a woman. It doesn't hurt that she's also beautiful.
John McEnroe, I can not say enough about my admiration for him, and Patty Smyth, everybody's crush back in the 80´s, both so talented and amazing, and together, I would give anything to spend a little time with them to express them what they mean for me in my life!

I recognize John as an announcer, and then bam, I remember how great of player he was, and his temper. Rants and rage of true passion. Always felt he was honest and not trying to give a call favoritism to his play. Passion. Honest. Heart.

The Stuport After watching a few Patty Smyth interviews going back to 1984, I think she's a good match for him. I didn't really realize that she was a New Yorker until today. To me, Patty was always the extremely cute preppy damsel in distress in the Good-bye to You video. When she went solo and did things like The Warrior video, I assumed it was a persona chosen for her by her record company. It wasn't until today that it became clear that she has *always been* a tough cookie from Manhattan. I had no idea.
I believe that God puts the will in some people to marry someone who is a difficult person. It can't be explained, it's just love. The sad part is when that difficult person doesn't even appreciate it. But in this case it seems that he does. It's just muy humble opinion.
I love seeing these little tidbits about John McEnroe and his wife! I didn’t know about her before… I’ve just gotten to know John a lot better over the years, watching all the tennis matches with Roger Federer, who my husband and I both love! And John McEnroe does all the narrating for his matches and many of the other men’s matches! I had watched him a bit years ago when he was playing.
At least he is honest. Lol
They’ve raised 6 kids who have not been in the media in any sort of “scandal” (pun intended), so well done!

Pattys one of few celebraties I do like. I have been a fan of hers since back in the early 80's. I like John too. I'm not into his sport, yet I like his non PC truthfulness.

We’re all works in progress. It’s the grand design. Men and women have different strengths and weaknesses, when we pair up, the balance can be great. Alone, they’d probably both be messy. John and Patty are a great example.

Even ex wife tatum said Patti was a far better match for john than she was. She said they are both very driven organized & very put together. Tatum bc of her really atrocious upbringing had problems & fell apart. I wanted to like her after the book & in a couple instances she was extremely rude to people. Like a trouble maker. So at some point tatum u gotta take responsibility & be better.
