  • This talk presents the results of ongoing research by the Holt and Farndon Community Archaeology Project. The project, which was formed in the wake of research undertaken at the Holt Roman tile and pottery works by the Holt Local History Society in 2018, has so far focused on a site located off Townfield Lane near Farndon.
The investigations at Townfield Lane were initially targeted over a card shaped enclosure noted in the National Environment Agency LiDAR data and surveyed in 2022 by Archaeological Survey West LLP. Excavations undertaken in 2022 confirmed the presence of Roman activity as well as the ditch enclosure, but also unexpectedly uncovered evidence of extensive metal working.
