Inbal paints a world of drama and emotional complexity, this is beyond just music.

Possibly the best interpretation I have heard of the first movement: bringing beautiful resonance, intonation, general cleanliness, and of course musicacality to this complicated chunk of awesome.

absolutely! This is truly beautifully played! Look up her other recordings....she is one of the best ever!

I think her interpretation is second only to starker's, probably because she didnt try to copy him like most cellist do, she did her own thing, and i think it sounds amazing, she brought sadness and fear to the 1st movment, whilst starker's is full of hate, anger and a pinch of loneliness...

Although I can't read sheet music to save my life, play any instrument apart from a simple drum beat or tell you what piece of musice is being played, I appreciate the wonderful sound a skilled musician can produce. Out of all the stringed instruments, the Cello is by far my favorite and Ms. Segev you play it beautifully.

I absolutely LOVE this piece!...For years I would listen to no one except Janos Starker! Then I 'discovered' Jakob Koranji and was enthralled by his playing! The lyricism he brought to the piece was simply wonderful!...And now along comes Inbal Segev...what more can I say? NO MORE OPRENING OTHER RECORDINGS! I will be playing Jacob and Inbal videos over and over and over! - I am not qualified to judge who is best. I believe that I will enjoy them both forever!

One of my favorite pieces of all time! The sonata with Piano is very nice, too, and his duo for violin/viola. I think he is overlooked as a great post-romantic voice. But the other comment is right. This is just the kind of music that makes you want to be able to pick up an instrument and play this kind of music. Thanks!

This is gorgeous music, played ravishingly! I have listened to Janos Starker's recording (Kodály said that a performance of his was nearly perfect) and find it technically wonderful, but cold by comparison. Perhaps Inbal Segev plays this movement with the Romanticism of Brahms, but I would take that any day over Starker. If you really like this artist's playing, please do support her by buying her CD on Amazon of the Bach Unaccompanied Cello Suites. I really do wish she would record the whole of the Kodály.

    Hi.
I love Kodály but I never knew about this sonata.
    I'm Spanish, living in Madrid.
Yesterday, I went to an exhibition of Esteban Lisa, a Spanish pioneer abstract painter, and they show a video there about his works, and, accompanied the images, we heard the adagio of that sonata played by Yo Yo Ma.
Ma's performance is wonderful but yours is also fantastic.
    Best wishes.

This piece is post grade 8 - This is something you would tackle whilst studying at conservatoire or university. As tempting as it is to jump ahead (and it can be valuable in certain circumstances) slow, step by step mastery of the instrument will do you FAR better in the long run, and allow you to learn new pieces to a CONSISTENT standard, not to mention quicker. You'll have much more fun, and less frustration learning this if you've mastered the basic techniques required first.

scordatura notation: is not written as it sounds. you tune according to the note before the piece, then essentially forget about it and play the piece as its written as if you were in standard tuning.
and of course pay attention to what string its supposed to be played on which the composer has hopefully noted otherwise it gets very confusing!

    • @Inbalsegevcello
      @Inbalsegevcello  6 лет назад +2

TooLazy hi, it depends on which one you are more comfortable playing, know better and love most. If all is equal I would say go with the Kodaly, it’s more impressive, you don’t depend on a pianist you might not know and it’s easier to get a handle on your nerves since it starts loudly. Be sure you are also comfortable tuning to non scordatura, and back to standard tuning under pressure. Good luck!

you are probably right. i managed the first page and its satisfying to play, but after that this get quite tricky. line 17-20 must be the most beautiful thing i´ve heard for a while. I am finding it hard to get actual unaccompanied cello pieces I like though.
its hard to tell difficulty level for me, because i learned pieces from ravel tombeau and debussy suite bergamasque on piano which i thought were impossible but effort got me there- that won't work all the time though.
