Jerry was maybe the best ever to do it, but yeah the JM hate is way overblown. Definitely from people who never saw them live, I don't know how you could hate his goofy faces and him whispering to his guitar and Bobby just smiling the whole time. Because Jerry probably is looking down and smiling too.
Haven't been to a show ...yet! (tix for August) But they could retire the SF video without me ever seeing it live and I would be immensely grateful. Prefer direct visual enhancement of the music to having distracting documentary type footage while playing. Space, planets, whatever, that's ok, I guess. But please support the music. If people are clapping to the images, the drones or the whatever, then they are distracted. Great stuff OUTSIDE of the show.
Just putting it out there if others feel this way let's get the message to those who have the power to enhance or distract from the magic. Love and cheers...
The SF video and taking off into space is the BEST graphic of the whole show! It's the reason to see them in the Sphere! Its super powerful experience, enhancing their performance a thousand fold. I've seen Grateful Dead many times and even though I'm not a fan of Mayer or Oteil, this was one of the best shows ever! You can feel the magic from the whole crowd/band interaction.
