Its incredibly funny to see your takes on Kiryu as a character just based on the videos that you've seen so far. The cold, immovable and stoic personality that Kiryu gives off just happens to because of the cruel and unforgiving criminal underworld that he keeps getting dragged into. On the flip side he is (debatably) one of the more caring characters within the series as he's a big believer in second chances. On a few occasions Kiryu has given a few antagonists a chance to start over and move on from their criminal life, even when someone is considered "Too far gone" he tries to give them a chance to change and when talking doesn't work he challenges their beliefs with direct confrontation. Kiryu has lived a hard and sad life, he's never truly been able to find the peace that he's always wanted but that hasn't stopped him from fighting on and trying to have fun when he can.

    16:30 ….no there is….another reason why it’s so popular
    Spoilers after translation
    Will it never change?
REM sleep so deep it’s like death
Come on, it’s about time to get up
The sun’s trying to shine, despite the clouds and curtains
“Tomorrow’s a long awaited holiday, let’s go swimming”
I guess you’re dreaming about the sea around now
    Never mind age, have fun
    We could charter a boat
    and stare into the sunset
    The ultimate Weekend Day
If we polish today it will shine like a Great Diamond
so Please, Get up my baby!
    (Come on, please get up)
    (Please! Please wake up)
(You’re never going to wake up)
    (I guess I’ll go to sleep too … )
The song tricks you with the upbeat music, but the lyrics have a double meaning. One for just being a song about a lover wanting their love to get out of bed to enjoy the day, while the other meaning is how Kiryu at the moment is feeling
Basically Kitty’s daughter is in a coma after getting hit by a car after she went missing for 3 years. Kiryu’s daughter is his rock, the only person who can give him emotional comfort
The line “I guess I’ll go to sleep too” is Kiryu’s way of saying that he will kill himself if his daughter never wakes up

I think so too. 6 For Kiryu, this is the accumulation of many events. The situations Haruka is in, Kiryu feeling guilty, his lost comrades, taking care of Haruto, the main story progressing through the parents, and in the end, he is the one who sacrifices himself for his loved ones.

There’s no way Kiwami 2 could make anyone cry, Yakuza 3 is way more tearjerking than that game. Kiwami 2 is highly rated that highly for the gameplay and graphics.

  • @deathyhoto

hands to me is super emotional, mostly because it was supposed to be like a kind of goodbye song for Kiryu as Yakuza 6 was the last game he was supposed to appear in as a protagonist.
Today is a Diamond is rather funny but sad, mostly because in the music video Kiryu looks so happy singing this, depsite how it sounds, rather depressing song.
Anyway these are all fun, I recommend doing the Yakuza songs from either 5 or Like a Dragon.

The last one you watched (called "Hands") with the baby is my personal fav. I'm pretty sure it's the only karaoke song in the franchise where you can listen to the entire song and it's post-game exclusive. It's such an incredible song and once you finish the game it really hits hard in your emotions.

Hope you guys have a chance to check out Lost Judgement’s Ex-Actions. Unlike the mainline series, Judgement is focused more on the legal side of things, with private investigator Yagami taking the stage in this spin-off series. As such, except for a few recycled animations from Kiryu, Yagami is occasionally less brutal in his actions
I say Lost Judgement rather than the first game, Judgement, simply cause Lost Judgement has the same EX-Actions, plus a few new ones
There’s also the Kiwami/Essence attacks from Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Put simply, the new protagonist Kasuga has an overactive imagination, and what looks like a street brawl to everyone else is the definition of anime attacks for Kasuga
Also fun fact, Judgement is the first time since the original Yakuza back in 2005 that the series has an English dub after being Japanese only. It’s become a staple since then

(Restart From) Tonight (the song with the flashbacks to someone who he considered BROTHER)? It is more sad when you remember that the person who he considers a brother is dead...
Alot of things happened but that little bit of his friend point a gun at him WASN'T the falling out. It was when Kiryu WILLINGLY TOOK THE BLAME for the murder of Dojima (that the brother, Nishkiyama, 'Nishki' as we call him as it's short hand and he refers to him, had actually comitted)
Ten Years in prison for Kiryu and 10 years of shit going so badly for Nishki to where he fundamentally changed. Eventually the two would have it out at a penthouse at Millenium Tower but Kiryu never killed Nishki...That would go to the other guy who was part of what is known as the 10 Million Yen incident. Or rather SPECIFICALLY said guy trying to kill Kiryu after mortally wounding Yumi (Kiryu and Nishki's childhood friend) before Nishki STABBED THE MOTHERFUCKER to shove him into the vault holding said 10 Million (or was it Billion, either way it was a tonne of money) and a BOMB that Yumi had meant to use to remove the money from play...Nishki shut the door then shot the bomb, setting it off.

9:36 The context here is that Kiryu was in deep shit with his former Yakuza family. There were thousands of Yakuza hunting for him and they were ordered to capture him alive so he could be tortured to death as a warning to others. And of course his best friend Nishiki would be made to watch it too.
So Nishiki "rescued" Kiryu and took him out of Tokyo with the intention of shooting him dead believing Kiryu didn't have a hope in hell of escaping the Yakuza and at least he could make his death quick. However, Nishiki ultimately couldn't bring himself to do it.
