Wow it never ceases to amaze me the stuff you find in those old machines! I have never taken the side panel off my 158.1946 when cleaning it, but now that I see how easily you did that, I’m going to go see if mine comes off the same. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot from them If you get a chance, pick up a 158.1914 which is a big brother to the 1941. The 1914 is the free arm version with 14 buit in stitches, 30 cams, buttonholer, and monogrammer.
What you should do is a video on removing the back from a machine like a 158.1940, or some other machine with the twist clutch handwheel which is much larger than the handwheel hole. That you cannot just slip over like on the venerable 1941. That is a handwheel that, when you want to oil or change a belt, causes significantly more headaches than this style. Another really needed video...taking this hand wheel for the 1941 (or something similar) off for servicing. There isn't a single video out there I've been able to find that shows you how to take it off and put it back on. And it needs to come off sometimes; especially if it's a varnished oil situation, which happens from time to time. Love the video as usual!!
I have the 1972 edition of this sewing machine without the free arm. It has never given me any problems throughout the years. Very good machine. Would you give a tutorial on all the parts that need to be oiled. Thanks.
I’m a novice VSM 158.1941 owner and love your channel. I have the manual and did the cleaning when I bought it. I did not open this side panel to clean it. Should I? The only issues I’ve had is tension.
Very helpful video. Thanks for making it.

But how do you get the panel off?
I have an aluminum side panel on my 158.1774. The other 1774 has plastic. Metal ones exist.
Have you ever worked on a Singer Stylist 533? Is it worth the effort?
