A very interesting creation from Triumph - Tiger 900 GT in the Pro trim - is likely one of the most complete motorcycles in the mid-size adventure motorcycles segment. I'm sharing my honest thoughts about this bike after spending some time with it. What a fantastic motorcycle for... daddies!
All views are my own and are based on my personal experiences with the Tiger 900. Stay tuned and subscribe for next mid adventure bikes and comparisons on the channel!

Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Honest Review: • Triumph Tiger 900 Rall...
I’ve been continuously riding bikes for Forty years and have owned all different types of models. I use my bikes for a combination of single rider and two-up leisure trips. I recently part exchanged my Tiger Sport 1050 for a Tiger 900 GT Pro. I am pleasantly surprised that the Tiger 900 outperforms my old bike on almost every metric. It has the torque of a large engine bike but can be flicked around a car park like a BMX. Riding larger adventure bikes can feal like balancing on top of a step ladder with a bag of cement on your shoulder. The onboard technology is awesome, and I find everything useable. My wife and I will be taking the motorcycle to Europe for our annual touring trip in July. I can’t wait to see how the bike performs.
That was a good review. I owned a Tiger 900 GT (not the Pro) and so have no experience of the quick-shift on the 900, but everything else, the lightness, performance and handling, I can absolutely attest to - it's a great bike. As a big guy, I upgraded to the latest 1200 to give me a better long-distance touring ability, but really, that 900 had 95% of everything I needed.
Thanks again for another good video!
How tall are you ? Because I'm thinking about Tiger 900 GT, but I'm afraid if it's too small for my height (I'm 187 cm = 6.1 ft)
@@jerzygroclinek5066 I'm pretty much the same height (188cm), and the 900 was absolutely fine...not too small, the height was good for me. The main reason for changing was the additional comfort the 1200 offered over long distances, but to be honest, I think I prefer the 900 for most riding scenarios!
@@chalkphil Thank You very much for answer :)
Thanks for sharing all that. I feel very much the same about the 95% of 1200's capabilities being there in the 900. As for the height, since Jerzy asked about that, there's always a taller seat available or a Rally version which would be taller as a whole.
Bro you Just made a great video! I don't know Why it wasn't in the top of suggestions. Dimensions Every single interesting thing of the bike. Not like the Rest of the Beatles How are Just acting the specification sheet. Thanks a lot! Amateur video creators are underrated
I have a 2023 GT-Pro in the Caspian Blue Color. My quickshifter works fine. This bike may have just needed a Software update. Usually, Triumph quick shifter's are some of the best.
Dealer's bike... I personally haven't had the best experiences with quickshifters in Tiger 1200 GT and 1200 Rally so far.
He could have been the unlucky one as no problems with the quickshifter. Ive seen a few tests and they never mentioned it.
Had mine for over two years (Tiger 900 GT Pro RED) and TSA (Quick Shifter) works perfect. My guess is on your test bike someone had adjusted the gear lever on the output shaft splines instead of using the screw adjusters to keep the same rotational torque on the foot lever.
The Tiger is a really great bike indeed. Although I just swapped my 900 GT Pro for a Street Triple RS (wanted something different for more exciting fun), it was a buttery smooth and very comfortable bike. The quickshifter and blipper worked great for me , although going from 1st to 2nd can be a bit clunky (which is the same on my 2022 Street Triple). Overall a great bike and maybe in the future I’ll own a Tiger again
I agree with most of what you said. When I rode the same bike, I was amazed at how it instantly felt ‘just right’. I’m testing the 1200 and 900 again this week, but I think my heart is set on the 900. I didn’t really push the bike hard, so I didn’t have a problem with the quick shifter. I found the screen a little thin, but this is easily fixed with an after market screen. I really like the 1200, but the vibration at 130kph is just too much. I still have to test the new tracer 9GT +, but I think I’ve fallen in love with the Triumph Tiger 900. The white bike looks very nice and I think you overstate the problem with the lights. Just a new habit to get into. Great review V-Told. Cheers
Have to agree with you, I tried a 1200 Rally pro and it really vibed through the pegs, the 900 was alot smoother to me. I also tried a 2019 1200 XRT which I almost bought, until I tested a 900gt pro the next day. Bought the 900 when I got back from the test ride.
Hi Vtold. I test rode this bike and honestly I loved it but 2 things in the end put me off. The luggage doesn't come standard and when you do get the luggage one side is bigger than the other due to the exhaust. Looks really ugly. Also the oem tyres are not very good and triumph should of opted for fatter tyres. Ultimately I got the tracer9gt which has fatter tyres and luggage as standard with no scaffolding to hold them much neater
So it's the same story as with a Scrambler also due to exhaust's location. This would bother me mentally too but I personally only ride with a top case. Don't like side panniers at all unless it's a Honda gold Wing type of bike.
@Chris, about the lights, yeah, it's just the same thing just done differently and in a more complicated way. It reminds me of what Apple has done to iPhone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that you cannot switch off in the quick-swipe menu but instead have to choose a 4x longer path of going to the settings, choosing WiFi or Bluetooth there and switching it off there. It ultimately does the job but takes so much more time and effort and annoys every single time. Same here with that switch I guess. Cheers!
Hi. So, decided on the tiger or the tracer? I'm about to Change my cb500x for something bigger and along the 850gs, Im thinking on these 2. Cheerz
@newbierider3553 I don't think you could go wrong with either the Tiger or the tracer. I went for the tiger. The main thing I liked was the electronic pre load and damping on the rear, also one thing I wasn't expecting was how the 19 inch front wheel on the Tiger felt so stable on fast and slow corners. To be honest I probably would have been happy with the tracer but the extra suspension travel really suits our roads here in NZ
Thank you for the review!
All jumps and especially the 02:18 planking attempt bring instant like :)
Oh, I'm always at your service. And more hardcore jumps are coming. Even over taller bikes than this one ;). Cheers!
I have exactly the same issue with the quickshifter on my Tiger Sport 660, it works about 50% of the time...
Got the GT pro now for two years. The quickshifter is a dream in any way and in all the rev range. I think that that bike has some serious transmission issues since you mentioned it engages at almost the end of the lever. My grabs at the start of the middle. If it's a press bike it could be a ton of mistreatment that results it.
I learned to believe that the demo/press bikes are usually maintained OK, so should represent the whole population pretty well. Other Tigers do the same to me, and this convinces me that it's just Triumph's technology or my left foot doesn't work well with the way that they need to be operated. On other bikes it gets along with my left foot or it also doesn't in some instances.
I have 2023 gt pro ,I've had no issues with quickshifter it works fine
Rode demo 2023 GT Pro in USA that had 8600 miles after thousands of riders beat it for 15 minutes 20-30 times per day. Hosted by Triumph. Lots of wear. Great bike. Felt light and quick. Quality. Amazing engine. Very comfortable for 6' 32" inseem rider. Fun punchy sound. Shift lever grabbed near far middle. Quick shifter worked well all gears up and down. Not the smoothest 1st to 2nd, but OK. Noticable change between rider modes. Front fork braking dive was controlled by putting more pre-load. I would buy it. Very impressed.
i passed already 33.000 km on the GT Pro and experienced never any of your quick shifter behaviour. but I had it already twice after service and software update that the quickshifter was disabled in the software (bike setup) menu. exact then it behave like your bike
This is interesting, I believe that mine had it properly activated though.
Still watching - but have a tiger 900 rally pro - and on the break and gear shifter you can fold in and rotate them and increase or decrease the height. That may help with your issue at 6:05. The front dive on the breaks - i find if you use the back break in conjunction with the front break it steadies the bike and you dont get as much front fork dive. Granted im riding the rally pro. The quickshifter - yeah i prefer to use the clutch, if i have to learn to use it while modifying throttle input to make it work smoothly i may as well just use the clutch. Agree with you on the clutch engagement point though.
Thanks for the tip on the levers. As for the dive, that's correct, the more "drag" you create using the rear brake, the flatter the bike will be due to different forces. I can only wonder for now what it's like in the Rally version. But I might jump on one this year to have a full perspective on the Tiger 900 range. Thanks for the useful input!
@@VToldsMotoShow Thanks for the reply - Rally Pro ... this is my 6th bike and i have to say it is the most beautiful machine i have ever owned. And once you get the revs over 4000 it sounds wonderful. Only thing is that my wife wants to come everywhere with me now so im thinking of upgrading to the 1200 down the track.
I really have a hard time liking aqua man’s staff, or trident or whatever they call it. Those three into one pipes look tedious. But that’s my take on it. Im sure it’s a great motorcycle!
Like to configure my main display to see rpm, speed, gas, mode, time, tpms, digitar rpm for sure
Your issues with the quickshifter could be something as simple as adjusting your chain to the correct tension. I could be wrong but it's worth trying before completely dismissing it as i know from experience with other bikes. Just a thought
I've had similar impressions on Tiger 1200 GT and Rally with shaft drive, so I doubt it but thanks for mentioning.
@@VToldsMotoShow Ah yes of course lol sorry I wasn't thinking. if you look on the quickshifter itself there should be some type of adjustment. It might be worth a try. Bmw quickshifters are quite temperamental sometimes but when right work well
Was the quick shifter enabled ? . If not sure, go at bike setting, TSA, enable.
You can certainly know what Mode you're in...it's the Roadway icon right below the sprrdo.
Ah yes, that's right! That thing in the bottom is changing too. Good point and I'm pinning your comment up there. Thanks a lot for mentioning it.
How about heat? Coming from vents to your knees?

I'm trying to buy my first adventure bike but not go too crazy off road my first year. I do want to travel long distances. Do you recommend the BMW F850GS or Triumph tiger 900 GT Pro or Triumph tiger 900 rally pro?
I'm 1.702 meters tall
I wouldn't attempt to ride the 900 Rally unless you've got super long legs. It's super comfortable so that's great on long trips that you mentioned but it's at the same time a taller version of a GT and the question is why would you consider a taller motorcycle in the first place. Other than this, it's a matter of a personal preference. I personally would go for a Tiger 900 GT or wait and see what the new BMW F 900 GS is like.
I’ve owned and ridden my Tiger 900GT for over 2 years. The quick shifter on this bike (Added Accessory) is a beautiful piece of equipment. So i am guessing your issue is an isolated one. The windscreen is not perfect, but its not horrible either. Never found a stock windscreen that was perfect out of the box. I would agree with your assessment on the display. All other controls work well. Just like any bike. Some take time to learn muscle memory. Great review
Oh yes - about that windscreen, it's as if manufacturers had a common goal to not give us a perfect one. Maybe except a KTM 890 Adventure.
I've tested it today, arakis, i confirm there is a problem between 2 and 3 at the end of rpm
Maybe test a small GS now. And please get out of the city daddy!
Yay, here you go: ruclips.net/video/-JxbRpTt-cA/видео.html Provided that by "small" you meant F850GS. City is the most hardcore environment for them and gives the best footage for the videos - that's why you're seeing it here the most. Thanks for the tips!
👋 Hi.. That is a really good and complete review of the Triumph Tiger 900… I’ve been owning and riding one for a year now and I totally agree with everything you’ve said.
I enjoy my Tiger daily and I’m very satisfied with that bike.
Thank you for the good work and ride safe ✌🏼
Hi, it's nice to see that you're enjoying your Tiger 900. It's definitely a good proposition in the segment. All the best!
I've been riding this bike for nearly two years and it shifts everytime using the quick shifter,I did have same problem as you and I had it back to triumph three times and they found no fault so I used my insta 360 camera to film it and it turns out if you don't completely let it go after the change or just slight keep weight on it it didn't shift so putting it shortly user error
The quick shifter is awesome
this is my dream bike, take anywhere, take any long rides, jump over speed bumps do saddling, great suspensions to ride over imperfect roads all day
If you permanent me a personal experience. I waa looking for a noiser and more agressive sound on my 850gs and got the akra + dorect tube on the pipeline,it was a great sound but after an hour of riding it geta uncomfortable and after long rides I even felt dizzy ans trust me, it wanat a super load noise it was kind of sporty but i learned that way that brand design these bikes like that for a reason
I have the 23 Rally Pro 900. Love the quick shifter and I'm 6-ft tall same as you and found the wind shield to be surprising good. Planned on replacing it, but now, no need will keep it. I love this 900 Tiger Rally Pro.
I agree with the TC from 1st gear...stopping etc.
So the TC must be having some issue. Let's hope that some future software update will fix it. But overall what a great combo of a bike! All the best with your Rally version.
Unfortunately the quick shifter on the bike can be faulty, depending on the batch from the supplier. I bought my GT Pro in December 2020 and six months later it failed. It was intermittent for months before I talked Triumph into replacing it under warranty. Since then it's been perfect. On a Triumph forum I'm on there were a few other owners with the same fault. The quick shifter is not a Triumph part, it comes from a company that makes them for many bikes, and MotoGP bikes. They are a reputable company but failed with some batches that ended up on this bike.
It makes sense, however, I've been having mediocre experiences with other Triumphs, namely Tiger 1200 in two different examples. Let's hope they improve this part as soon as possible.
What do you think is more fun as a daily commuter: Tiger 900 GT Pro or Norden 901????? Trying to decide...
Paul Warrick responding to V-Todd’s Moto Show question re which model(s) generates excessive heat on the knees.
The only model and only bike I can speak to is the new 2023 Tiger GT Pro that I purchased on 6/15/23.
Thanks a lot. Actually this way I can see your comment in my own "feed" here. I may get back to Triumph later this year to take a Rally version of this Tiger 900 and see how that one feels in terms of heat management. Maybe the end of August would be a good time to try it in hot weather.
Hmm I tried it and it worked fine, and on my stree triple the quickshifter works without any error.
The quick shifter makes sense in street bikes but on a touring bike??? maybe!
I cant imagine having a big with no quickshifter. It just makes a ride much more fun. And yes it has to work good.
Yeah, I think so. Brain says that in fact you don't need it but then having a possibility of using it is great. I'd still pay for it myself.
Hi. Good review of one of the bikes I considered buying. Your reviews are up there with the best.
I ended up ordering the 2023 BMW R 1250 R. It hasn't been delivered yet but I am super excited.
Could you review the 2023 BMW R 1250 R ?
Hi, thanks a lot for your feedback and I appreciate it a lot! I had a chance to ride BMW R 1200 R for some time a few years ago but the newer R 1250 R would right now be slightly aside the adventure segment that I'm focused on. I do believe that it should remain largely similar to the 1200 which was pleasant to ride with that low end torque, great balance and unique style. But it's not exactly my type of bike, so I may not be able to fully benefit from what great it provides. All the best with your new R!
@@VToldsMotoShow The Tiger 900 GT is an adventure bike?
Something is wrong with gearbox or quick shifter of model you rode. I've ridden GT and Rally pro, quick shifter is class leader
It's a similar story to 1200 GT and 1200 Rally that I've ridden last year. I wouldn't say that when I ride them, their quickshifters are class-leading. I actually call them slowshifters. Same here with the 900.
I confirm problem while drive very hard
Any change to the pannier seat for 24?
The Road to Sport mode sharpens up the throttle but doesn't do anything to power. It means you get more rpm for less twist. It also swaps the rear suspension. I have rear suspension set fairly soft in Road mode and hard in Sport mode. Once I'm on a winding mountain road i swap to Sport and the difference is clear.
You didn't like the tires. What would you use for touring and maybe a little unpaved driving? Thank you for this. I bought the bike and am mostly happy - actually mostly thrilled. You've pointed out some weaknesses. Consumption is another. 20 liters is nice, but 100km takes at least five liters out of that. Also, use liberal amounts of locktite - I don't mind the vibrations, but screws will like to come loose on this bike. I replaced the screen with a Givi touring screen, and do little else but long for the season to start!
I’ve never had a problem with the quick shifter. If you’ve had problems on multiple bikes, then I would suggest you are doing it wrong.
this or the f850gs?
I personally would take the Tiger 900 GT over BMW F 850 GS unless I was about to go offroading, which I wouldn't be doing. For offroading I'd take a dirtbike, so in the end Triumph wins for me here pretty much in all aspects, especially the engine.
I love truimph tiger 900 rally pro....
I might go and check the Rally later this year.
@@VToldsMotoShow I think you should. I tested both and easily made decision...the RP !
Thank you.
My pleasure!
Strange you experienced that the quick shifter does not work well. Mine does almost a perfect job. One off the best bikes i have ridden. Very happy with mine. Amazing engine, suspension. The led lights work very good at night. And that T-Plane cranck sounds amazing. Just the rev counter is difficult to read. Strange lay-out of the screen.
I'm glad that the quickshifter seems to be better on yours. Or perhaps it's just a different riding style, who knows.
Hi mate I own a GT too I just wanted to know If the fuel capacity is 17 ltr or 20 since I’m bit confused every time it shows fuel is low even though I heard it is 20 ltr tank capacity
According to Triumph it's 20 liters. The guel gauge may be panicking earlier so that you don't run out of fuel even if you push it too far without refuelling.
It does tend to let you know early fuel is getting low
Can anyone comment on if the front fork dive can be adjusted so it is stiffer? I'm coming from R1200RT and this piece is unnerving w/ hard braking.
Yes, compression on one side and rebound on the other. I've had the GT Pro for over 40,000 kms and the stock settings have been fine for me.
When it works (I'm on my second replacement) the quick shifter is buttery smooth. quick question, you did have it activated in the bike settings?
Yes, I believe it has been activated as otherwise it would be a hardcore experience.
It’s probably going to be my next purchase, parked right next to my Trident.
All the best with the new Tiger 900 then!
I have a Rally Pro and my quickshifter works most of the time. I would always choose it.
Yup, most of the time it works fine. But it's as if a microwave would work most of the time - the moments when it all stops working properly are the ones that bother you. I'm not too happy with the quickshifter on Triumph's Tiger family (haven't tried other Triumphs though).
I just got mine a few days back, and I've been noticing some minor fueling issues at town speeds (aka 50k km/h). Has anyone experienced something similar?
I'm coming from a Bonneville 1200 and haven't had issues with that before.
Perhaps describing more precisely what you mean by fuelling issues, would be helpful. I'd take it back to the dealer for an inspection and/or software update if there's any available for your bike.
I'm coming off a 1200 speed twin and find the fueling on the tiger better.
I’m curious how many miles your Tiger had on it. I have a 22 with 4000 miles and the quick shifter works flawlessly. Except 1st to 2nd. That’s still a bit klunky and I use my clutch now and again, but the upper range is butter. It wasn’t at first.
I bet it's below 6000 miles/10000 kms. Likely significantly less.
Agreed from first to second with quickshifter takes a bit to find the sweet spot , but the rest are pretty smooth
Not sure if you've been asked this befire, but which riding pants are those?
These are regular military pants that I put separate knee protectors underneath. Otherwise I'd definitely get proper pants also with a tailbone protection and definitely-definitely hips protectors installed in them as mine don't have that as my research not long ago has proven that there aren't really any hip protectors that make sense aside from additional "underpants" with them from Alpinestars that are constantly unavailable. Or there should also be specifically motorcycle pants with removable protectors all around - such would be amazing to have. If you look and find such, definitely do let me know too.
Dude...your riding makes me anxious, lol. Never had a door open on you I see.
Yup, right, it never happened. This is Europe.
Hi - nice review buddy. I have the 900 GT Pro and my quickshifter and blipper work fine. Must be an issue with the particular bike you tested.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. My left foot clearly doesn't get along too well with the quickshifters from Triumph. But I'm glad that it seems like getting used to them more may help.
there is a problem between 2 and 3 at the end of rpm
The seat is uncomfortable compared to other bikes I have owned
Whoops, but I guess we are all different up to some point.
@@VToldsMotoShow upon reflection its probably my old bones rather than the seat.
VStrom 1050 a better choice?
That would depend on a number of factors. I'd have to think long and hard but I feel that Tiger 900 is just a more complete package and I personally prefer its design a lot compared to a V-Strom 1050.
Good to see Triumph making some really good bikes. Another RUclipsr done a test and didn't have a problem with the gearbox or the quickshifter he had it for a mouth. But the clutch was a bit far out. But a part from a few tiny issues he said that they got it nearly perfect especially over the older model. And a 10% boost in power and torque. Hopefully Triumph continues to make great bikes into the 21st century. But still enjoyable watching your review.
Thanks for mentioning it. Having each bike for free for a month, I'd likely would be skipping on some downsides here and there too.
Your hight?
183 cm tall / 6'0".
I purchased one a week ago and experienced significant heat on my knees from the radiator vent. I was 10 miles away from the dealership on the freeway when it started. I turned my knees out to the side in an unnatural riding position and the heat was gone. I confirmed after viewing RUclips reviews from owners that it wasn't just me. I returned the bike....at significant loss of course. Exquisite bike otherwise but ultimately unrideable in my view.
Thanks for letting us know. It makes me wonder as usually when I'm riding these bikes and pushing them, they do give up and start heating up significantly but I haven't noticed it with this Tiger 900. I'd like to know whether it's certain units affected or it's all Tigers that in some conditions present such an issue.
did you wear a knee guard?
I found the heat is only a problem in hot summer weather and in traffic. Over 80 kph it's not a problem. There are inserts that fit into the gap to deflect the hot air out sideways. I think they come from Italy. A friend of mine has made up plastic deflectors and put them in with velcro.
Hi V, which one of tiger 900 rally pro and 1200 gt pro, for commuting and road travelling?
I tried the whole series of tiger 900 and 1200, and found that 900 engine is smother than 1200, while 1200 is much more powerful... My height falls in 900 rally and 1200 gt version. I had a dilemma of choosing one from the two... It seems that 900 is a more valuable choice than 1200, regarding the engine quality...
How tall are you ? Because I'm thinking about Tiger 900 GT, but I'm afraid if it's too small for my height (I'm 187 cm)
@@jerzygroclinek5066 I am 175cm, I feel ok with 850mm seat height on both bike.
I am afraid that 900 gt is too small for you. 900rally actually has the similar shape with 1200 gt pro, looking from the front and side view.
You can also handle tiger1200 rally pro, which might be the best choice for higher riders…but not me😭
@@vincevan4513 Thank You for answer:)
I see that it's a tough choice and I admit that if I were able to put aside the appeal of a "top of the line" 1200, then I'd really struggle. However, I personally enjoy more explosive engine of a 1200 and prefer its suspension with amazing settings. It could be a more comfortable bike while not being much heavier or harder to manage around town. I feel I'd be ready to pay for that and to satisfy my ego with having the biggest Tiger in the family. I'm not really bothered much by 1200's vibration.
4 major deal breakers you have brought to our attention:
1-Slow processing power for the display-takes forever to come in
2-Poor quick shifter
3-Windscreen or some other aerodynamic flaw which causes dirt etc to enter the helmet from below-can he very bad for eye health
4-Non intuitive headlight flasher button-can be a serious safety hazard
After all these points you have highlighted, I couldn't possibly consider this bike.
1. It's not that bad, turn it on, by the time you put your gloves on its ready to go.
2. The quick shifter is excellent.
3. The stock screen is better than most, I haven't felt the need to change it.
4. The full beam switch is easy to use and not a problem.
Let's face it, you don't want to consider this bike probably because you don't want to consider it.
I have the rally pro for two years and i agree that the quickshifter is one of the best. Works every time at every rpm range with no abruptness.
Yeah, Triumph needs to work on the display processing power or whatever this thing is doing in the background. Same with the quickshifter. I think that aerodynamics can be totally changed with a different windshield though as it impacts the air almost everywhere around the bike. So this one is not lost yet! Cheers!
@@zonkexwhen you drive hard, quickshifter fails sometimes, i've experienced it today while testing arakis
@@michal6531 Maybe your quickshifter module needs repair, because I have never experienced an issue. Actually when i drive hard it feels smoother, especially at the downshifts.
what do you think,is this bike worth the extra money compared the new transalp?and second question...is there so much heat engine that can become really annoying to the summer?
There are many factors to consider in the comparison with a Transalp. It depends on which areas are the most important. I'll be likely making a comparison video between these two somewhere in the future. The heat topic - I don't remember but if I haven't mentioned it in a video, then all is fine.
