Not going to lie this song and performance kind of grew on me, I mean song is simple but fun and the performance ranges from insanely odd and weird to cri he and funny, to the ending where the dancers hump the floor, her over the top singing voice the band just running on a treadmill and the guy doing a chicken dance and screaming gosuuu chicken nayyy can't help but love it for all it's absurd and stupidity but it still makes me laugh and smile 😂
Yeah, we need more stupid absurd stuff at Eurovision, but unfortunately this just wasn't it. The effort was there from everyone except Mr. Speed Glasses himself. Amazing choreography, too. Unfortunately, stupid and absurd is not trendy in Eurovision right now. Käärijä did push us in the right direction, but I think it will take a couple of years before we can get another Dancing Lasha Tumbai. You could feel how this wasn't resonating with the audience, too. Their semi-final score doesn't really indicate whether this would be successful at ESC at all. If it's too weird for Lithuania, it's probably too weird for everyone else too. On a more positive note, the avant-garde/experimental production seems to be a big trend coming up. Damdiggida had that fascinating bridge (unfortunately it didn't have much else going for it), La Noia has all sorts of funky instruments playing, Nendest(...) has the talharpa, Ulveham has a similar instrument... And I like Luktelk too (which is 100% going to be a hit), plus we got this gem all to ourselves. So I'm happy.

I think the lack of audience participation was what did them in. Sure, the drummer and keyboardist are clapping, but like... what are you, an audience member, supposed to *do* in response to this? What's the dance? Should you be shouting the Korean line with him, or should you shout KABOOM!!! with her? Just... clap to the beat the whole time? Everyone was sitting down, silent, trying to make sense of the absurdity of it all, and they may have liked it, but that just doesn't win votes. I 100% want something like this to compete someday, but it's like they forgot why previous weird songs (e.g. Give That Wolf A Banana, Dancing Lasha Tumbai) worked. It's brilliant, funny, absurd, but inaccessible.
