Has the definition of floodlight and of spotlight changes recently? A spotlight is when the light output is concentrated to a narrow angle of illumination, whereas floodlight illuminates a larger area (hence the word flood). Even the word spotlight ... spot?
Interesting for sure. I have the 8k model. Honestly bought too much light and almost never have it on full blast. The 12k would probably be cool to see at least once for sure
Love the intro! Wow on the $550 price! Im stoked on my $59 Coast XP11R, it blows most flashlights out of the water with plenty of light. And then extra batteries. Paired with a mount that can hold any flashlight. (Not any of the kinds with rubber straps, avoid those jiggle nightmares). Huge fan of extra wide flood lights for looking ahead on turns.
Can it actually run all those rune times on low, medium or high while in spotlight mode in the summer months without the thermal protection kicking in after a few minutes like other high powered lights?
Being in the night. That is mainly what these are intended for when it's not still 80F out. Even then you tend to not use these at dead or slow rides. Bicycle lights like these high powered ones are intended for medium speed riding. If you're at a dead stop. You'll slap this down to low. Some high powered lights will have a ' walk mode ' like Niterider and Cygolite. Those will have small 50-100lumen output lighting but also keep it super cool while in handheld mode off the bike. But during rides. Needs bit of air to blow over the unit. Cygolite and NiteRider have quite a deep history and been working on their thermals very well. So might take a look at them if you're thinking of thermal protection kicking in. But most high powered lights from good companies will not really shut the light off. But they will enter a lower power faze that will dim the light a bit to help reduce the internal heating of the light's diode. But to understand. Highest mode will be the most hottest of running. So normally this is likely when the thermal protections kick in. But in most time other modes like low and medium can really not effect much in heat build up. Although your better choice isn't to look at single packed LED's with large outputs. If you're thinking of thermals. Pick ones with lower lumen outputs and buy more then 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 and mount them in tantum. That way you'll have the amount of Power you want. With less heat build up. Sure it might take up some space. But you'll have less heat generated across the board. IE Say you went with Cygolite's Ranger 2000. Going for 4 you get 8000lumens. Or 5 with one on helmet you get 10.000. They'll run cooler and take less airflow to cool down so you won't need to ride fast to stay cool. And you can always use them on lower modes or for the two companies of NiteRider/Cygolite they can be used in handheld modes via Walk Mode.
Great review! 12K is insane! That’s a massive leap from 8000. Plenty of design challenges. And that battery is massive! Really utilizing USB-C to its full potential. I’ve always been happy with the build quality of the magic shine lights. The value is totally there compared to other manufacturers. Often the battery life is longer than advertised. My only complaint is in the mounts. The bar mounts often don’t have any side adjustment, the helmet mount took plenty of time to find a solution for, and I can’t manage to get the remote Velcro to attach cleanly.
A question for you! I compete in 24 hour mountain bike events and want a light that provides as much support as possible. I am attracted to the 12000 for it's battery life on the lower to medium settings, but at more than twice the weight of the 8000 lumen version, I am hesitant. During a race, it is typical to spend 2/3 of the time climbing, which doesn't require much brightness. I am curious as to whether or not you might consider the 12000 would be overkill. I am not adverse to purchasing a second battery that I can swap in on one of the night laps, which would help if I get the 8000. Also curious to know if I can carry a changing block and daisy-chain it with the battery that comes with the 8000. Thanks for your great reviews, and for the discount code.
If you want less weight the 8000 is your go to. Definitely get a second battery for that race and run on a low setting. MS has a great chart for run times so you will know what setting to run. The 12000 is amazing with a very good battery and with that said you might be able to run it with just one battery even though it will weigh more. I like that the 12000 has the app so you can customize the brightness where the 8000 doesn’t have that. With that said either light you go with keep a spare on hand. Something like the 1500s or 2600b are great for a helmet light or just a light weight backup.
@henrylowther8462 you can use the url www.magicshine.com then at checkout use the code RUNBIKEMIKE15. That should work. If not I will contact Magicshine and see what is going on.
This is a new battery design from Magicshine so I don’t know if that is the case. I know my other monteer lights going on one year are working just fine still.
I have always been a charge it slow and get it off the charger as soon as its full kind a guy. I think that might be why I don’t see a lot of battery issues on products I use. Good battery maintenance is important.
Hi Having an integrated stem with 2 clamps i was wandering if someone could let me know how much distance there is between the lights clamps so i know there's space for it either side of the stem clamps Thanks :)
I currently run a Monteer 6500 and a 3500 on my helmet and THAT is insanely powerful. 12000 is in the realm of ridiculousness! I am bummed to see they used a different connector on the power cable though. This battery pack would be ideal to run both my 6500 and 3500 off the same battery pack. I feel that Magicshine is seriously missing the mark by NOT allowing that for those of us who use both a bar light and helmet light. I guess I will keep my ugly ass homemade one that works so I know it COULD be done.
They'll never make an adapter, as this one outputs at 14.4V, the others all output at 7.2. Would require an integrated voltage controller which would add inefficiency and complexity.
@@RunBikeMikei payed with PayPal with no problems. But im still a little dissapointed that it will be shipped from China, not UK. Ive got a Nitecore BR25 for front. Ive got an expansive bike as a gift and i want the best lights for it. Previously i used another super flashlight, Olight Seeker 2 Pro but with no cutout beam.

Yup, you're right, it's the opposite of what he said

Now if they had a way to help the hot air from the inlet to travel to fingers for colder days.... a double win!

I’m here for the run time! Wow!
How hot battery can get? I plan to use as bikepacking light with battery inside one of my bags.
I don’t know the exact temp but I haven’t had an issue with the battery in a bag. I have had it in a bag on my frame when riding my gravel bike.
would you keep the light mounted to handle bar
while you go to a store? is there an easy way to mount or dismantle it?
It would take someone quite a long time to take the light off your bars.
@@RunBikeMike but he only got to unscrew 2 allen key bolts. a track slide and lock option would make it easy to remove it when parking the cycle

Super nice light, but supper crazy price!!!!
One downside is that the remote stops working on frezing days. You can still use the button on the light though.
I see you made a video with 6500 and 5000, do you have a 8000? I’d be curious to see 8000 vs 12000

It's the price you pay to have the brightest lights. I will say their 6500s is half the price and more than bright enough.
