The Parable of the Tower Builder and King Going to War
Luke 14: 25-33
By these two twin set of parables Jesus is telling those who are thinking about being his Disciples to seriously consider the consequences to themselves and total commitment to Him that being a disciple demands. One must make a complete commitment to Christ and submit oneself to follow Jesus wherever he may lead. He does not want or need halfhearted followers. Jesus uses two examples to illustrate this point; a man going to build a tower where the cost of materials and labor have to be thought out before beginning, and a king considering War who has to think about the chances of success before sending in the troops. Summary: Jesus wants truly committed disciples.
