I’m all for characters in movies not making “smart” choices, because it’s a lot more entertaining that a phone doesn’t work and they couldn’t call for help versus them getting in contact with emergency services and calling for help. But when you write characters to make bad decisions every step of the way - your movie becomes very dull. Hiding in a pool was some next level stupidity.
Totally. There's a big difference between a character that makes a bad decision and one that makes a stupid decision. I don't expect characters to always make perfect decisions. If a character is always making the perfect choice, it tends to get boring. But their bad decisions need to be believable. Take a movie like "The Thing." The characters aren't perfect. They don't always make the ideal choices. But for the most part they do make competent decisions, and when they make a poor decision, it's usually in a way that's understandable or relatable. They don't have to do completely asinine nonsense just to prevent the plot from being resolved in a matter of minutes. It also makes the monster/killer/whatever far more frightening when the protagonists are competent and generally make sensible decisions. An antagonist that manages to outwit and overcome the protagonists even when those protagonists are clever and capable is far more unnerving than one that succeeds because its targets forget how to breathe if they aren't reminded every five seconds. An MMA match between two pros that have been fighting for years can be exciting, and both the winner and loser will probably look impressive. A pro fighter with years of experience beating down a first grader who has never thrown a punch is a nonsensical waste of time.
the thing is, if a movie is well made, characters can still lose even when making the best decisions, not because it was a 'who is dumber' battle but a 'let the smartest one win' - it *can* be very entertaining to see smart choices made by both sides, i'd say the horror is even enhanced, as obvious 'just do this for god's sake' decisions become 'what could it do right now? goddammit aa this is bad' but for some reason many horror movies just dumb everyone down, heroes and villains alike - maybe because its easier to make a movie if everyone is braindead, but still movies can be very entertaining with smart characters, its just that its cheaper to dumb everyone down

He was the most decent during this entire movie compared to his absolutely idiotic step kids and rather than go with the " You kids might hate me but I'm going to risk my life to protect you " route you give us a plotwist that makes absolutely no sense. I may not have seen that coming but that doesn't mean it was at all good. Honestly it would have been best to at least show us he was trying to keep his kids safe cause he did love them, but they kept being so ungrateful to the point he's had it and just Barbie dolled them cause seriously. Screw these idiots.
Don, the Step Dad killed their real dad and made him his first victim. He was actually friends with him when he introduced Don to his wife and so the guy just murdered him to get him out of the picture. He purposely sabotaged the car to kill the kids so he could eventually turn their mom into a mannequin too. ruclips.net/video/iWsFM5OfhfE/видео.html
What makes me confused is the fact that the step dad would had to know these kids for at least a few years and since he took them on a field trip wouldn’t the mother have known where they were going and who was with them? So if he actually successfully killed them wouldn’t the mom immediately know who did it and wouldn’t the police had to investigate where the kids went to that means that the police would deftly find the taxidermy bodies and immediately know they were rotting corpses because of the smell? And what about the towns peoples kids who died wouldn’t they get suspicious 🤨 this movie makes absolutely no sense
It's bad specifically because you can't see it coming even when rewatching the movie, it's just like Hans in Frozen, he spends the whole movie going out of his way to be a good guy only to heel turn into villainy right at the end
Ya know I was thinking the same thing but then I thought that we only see 1 car drive worth of interactions between the 3, its quite possible he was a raging asshole the whole time and his "nice guy" act was just that, him putting on an act for ulterior motives which could explain the open hostility in the car because they could tell he was being fake AF but who knows, heck they coulda actually been very familiar with that act if its how he behaves when mom is around. Still though through the whole video even after figuring he was in on it because, wtf just showing up after 2-3 days at the location is SUS as all hell, I was still rooting for him to off the little shits lol.
Beatrice : "you guys shouldn't be here" Deedee after seeing a scarecrow draining blood, seeing a giant kidnap someone, fall into a shit pit with other conscious people and hearing her brother almost being thrown into said pit : "WhYyy????"
Your sense of humor is pure gold. Not only is the explanation of the movie & how you’d maneuver thru it, had it been you; The jokes are ALWAYS impeccable.
The main characters 100% would have died tho. The guy from an infection and then sepsis fast as all hell too due to swimming in shit with an open wound down his leg. While the girl had the nervature in her spine fucked up which should leave her a cripple or atleast leave some of her lower or upper body funtions non-functioning. Because well, if a weapon which is used to sever your nervature enough to the point where you cant move your body there would be nerve damage if someone uses it on you. Like holy smoking plot armor thats dumb writting
I feel like the risk of infections are overblown by the general population in regard to healthy young people with a good immune system. Sure, cases happen where a seemingly healthy young person gets a life threatening infection from some arbitrary thing. But I've put dirty drill bits through my hand, cut myself wide open, had catfish spines go through my hands, had mulch and fertiliser in open wounds, ticks on me for days yada yada without medical intervention and not a single issue at all. I doubt I'm special or have a unique immune system because I get frequent colds and they hammer me into the ground. I just think most healthy young people are highly resistant to the typical bugs you encounter in dirt and water even with an open wound because you encounter them your whole life everyday. I mean people literally handle faeces everyday as part of their job and it absolutely gets into their system occasionally. Personally I think it might be a hold over from pre-modern times when it wasn't unusual to have stunted growth and development through childhood and then go through frequent periods of starvation all while being deprived of clean water and many vitamins and minerals - in that situation your immune system can probably be knocked out by the wind. FYI I know how that sounds but I'm not anti-establishment. Me and my family are all vaccinated and when one of us is sick we try to keep away.
Biggest plot twist of the movie was Don leaving those IQ points wherever the hell he's been for those past few days. I'm assuming it was an underground psych ward to get a lobotomy.
I just want to say thank you for always having subtitles in your videos. In the past few years, I've slowly been losing my hearing and being able to continue to watch your videos without constantly rewinding to ask myself "what did he say?" is so nice. So again I say, thank you.

about 10 years ago we had a flat tire, and when we were going to call for a tow truck my gf had no signal. I thought it was pretty weird, so I pulled out my phone that had another carrier, and it had signal. before I could call the tow company I heard, hey I can see some headlights!, we could ask them! not being the very social person, I said, no let's just call for a two truck and just chill in the car for a while. turns out that some dude killed some motorist down the road that night by having a cell "spoofer". He wasn't jamming any signals, he was just pretending to be a tower from a more popular carrier, then dropping the calls. The reason was to not jam an signals since that would be easily tracked, what he did was pretend to be the best tower in a range of channels in hope of catching the average cell user. To this day I'm glad we never went for the lights, and when ever the power goes out, even if I plugged in a 2.1GWh car into the socket I'm not going up to the fuse box without a knife and my dog near me.
Yeah he was wrong there. Most taxidermies are done, after the animal died. Hunters turning their kills into art , people having dead pets taxidermized.

One of those fun times where the main cast are so stupid that you can’t feel any sympathy for them. Not often that I’m sure I could survive these situations. But…sure hope I could avoid being this stupid.
So when the main characters are shit heads, does that make the serial killer actually the protagonist? Kinda hard to root for the main character when they’re shitty and I usually root for the villain 🤷
8:07 "All she had to do was give it a lick" Lol, no that's a bad idea, you don't want to lick corpse blood, it's a good way to get really bad diseases. Blood has an easily identifiable sent, just sniff. Honestly since she is training to be a doctor, the consistency should be enough to say if it's blood or not.
I like to imagine Nerd is hunting his latest victims, currently trying to kill one but is actively taking a moment to stop and point out every stupid thing they do Eventually, this entire impromptu endurance experiment gets to him and he decides to sever one of his own arteries to give them the fighting chance they apparently needed
"This creep is squatting in a house" "I know! We'll not take that as the obvious massive waving red flag that it is and jump in to piss off the cop!" These two were begging to get killed. It's a wonder they got out of the car without somehow dying.
The best part of this, for someone who is does target shooting and such, was the decision to make the pistol a Hi-Point. I'm not knocking them at all, it's an option for people in that budget and they're surprisingly reliable from what I hear. Screw these idiots.
i mean seeing how they treat him I wasn't surprised he wanted revenge lmao
Beatrice : "you guys shouldn't be here"
Deedee after seeing a scarecrow draining blood, seeing a giant kidnap someone, fall into a shit pit with other conscious people and hearing her brother almost being thrown into said pit : "WhYyy????"
I love how Nerd Explains is just becoming more and more done with all of the characters
"She's probably an area rug by now" 🤣🤣🤣 you damn near took me out..well played sir.
SAME!!!! 🤣
Simon's level of simping for Tia is final boss level. Dude followed her the entire movie just to save her despite her wanting nothing to do with him
Your sense of humor is pure gold. Not only is the explanation of the movie & how you’d maneuver thru it, had it been you; The jokes are ALWAYS impeccable.
I love how right at 35:12 you can see the dude on the left who is supposed to be dead at this point, blink clear as day
he’s also blinking at 27:08 lmao
The main characters 100% would have died tho.
The guy from an infection and then sepsis fast as all hell too due to swimming in shit with an open wound down his leg.
While the girl had the nervature in her spine fucked up which should leave her a cripple or atleast leave some of her lower or upper body funtions non-functioning.
Because well, if a weapon which is used to sever your nervature enough to the point where you cant move your body there would be nerve damage if someone uses it on you.
Like holy smoking plot armor thats dumb writting
They could have avoided all of that thoe if they weren't so dumb.
Wtf your 'English' is painful
The IQ gap between Don and every other character in this movie is roughly 100.
edit: God damn it I spoke too soon.
I'm sensing a lot of pent up aggression in the script. I love it.
Fire.
The answer to just about any problem from ancient evils to sci-fi nightmare abominations is to use fire.
MTG "Sizzle" flavour text:
"Of course we should fight fire with fire. We should fight everything with fire. "
If all else fails, use fire.
-Legend of Zelda 2 NPC
Simon seems like a decent guy wouldn’t you all say he tried to warn them several times and even saved them when they were in the cornfields he’s like the little kid from Texas chainsaw massacre that tries to help some of the victims but there isn’t really anything he can do because he doesn’t want to completely betray his family either that would be a shitty position to be born in to a serial killing family but being the only one that does not enjoy killing and hunting their victims damn I don’t know what I would do
wow this comment is one sentence
@@katroamleft4721 IKR, not a single punctuation mark.
@@katroamleft4721 lol says the person with no period at the end of his sentence thanks for the grammar lesson but I don’t need it seems like you do though
Does your keyboard have periods or commas?
Simon seems like a decent guy as I'm sure you would agree he tried to warn them several times including saving them when they're in the cornfield due to the fact he is similar to the little kid from Texas chainsaw massacre that tries to help the victims but there is nothing he can do because he doesn't want to completely betray his family despite being born into the family labeled a serial killer in spite of not finding killing and hurting people enjoyable making this a situation in which I don't know what I would do.
There I corrected it. Everything he said in one grammatically correct sentence
I was actually upset when the Step Dad died, because by the end he was by far the most likable character.
Doctors vs Farmers.
Doctors: If doctors aren't paid, the life expectancy of citizens likely go down 10 years or more.
Farmers: If farmers aren't paid the life expectancy of a citizen will be about half a year.
in the globalised and intertwined world, this whole convo is just dumb. Everybody needs infrastructure. So don't try to be edgy or whatever you are trying here
@@katroamleft4721 Can you elaborate, why you take offense to my comment?
@@katroamleft4721 And somehow you still sound worse-
@@katroamleft4721 cant see the forest for trees can you? farmer provide the food what's everybody else in that infrastructure you talk about need to survive? "FOOD", 99% of people can live without medical care, nobody can live more then 30 days max without food, farmers are one of the biggest parts that keep any infrastructure going.
Sir, this is a how to survive a terribly written horror movie.
about 10 years ago we had a flat tire, and when we were going to call for a tow truck my gf had no signal.
“Like some sort of half baked Dishonored speed run”
Never thought I’d be hearing that line. Especially since I just got back into that game.
Thanks.
"you guys shouldn’t be here." "…why?" 22:38 i’m ded.
For anyone curious, yes, there is actually a gun called a Yeetcannon.
The sheer stupidity of the main characters and their ability to assess the situation and choose the worst decision possible is remarkable
The dumbness of these characters combined with your explanation, really is some of the funniest shit ever
-You shouldn't be here
-Why?
"Are you fucking kidding me?"
The best lines in the video
Him: ask any taxidermist you got to bleed them while heart is pumping
Me: looks at stuff pet market. What did you do to fluffy
Yeah he was wrong there. Most taxidermies are done, after the animal died. Hunters turning their kills into art , people having dead pets taxidermized.
@@theoneeyedartist3253 He was joking with that part to mock the poor writing, don’t worry ^^
@@witchypeoniflorallungs3044 I figured he was joking, since no sane person would think taxidermy is done to living creatures.
0:07 ''what would you do?'' shows the scene with the girl crying.
Me: That's exactly the first thing I would do XD
Oh my god... I never thought I'd see this movie covered. I haven't watched it myself. My cousin played Toni.
Always love your content though!
Man your cousin really should have bitch-slapped whoever wrote and directed this flaming pile of shit. This movie sucks. Toni did a good job tho!
Damn
Cool
10:22 *WITH EDWARD CULLEN BEHING THE WHEEL* bwahhahahahha that was HILARIOUS
your humor was made for this video. I was dying everytime you destroyed the step children
love this channel: at 5:02 "They blow a tire which somehow doesn't result in numbnuts cutting his own throat. Captain Marvel doesn't even budge to help with the flat tire." got a good laugh out of that one.
I wonder how many people viewing this will know what limpwristing a stovepipe means. Love the firearm comments and quips you always include.
Same you can tell this guy Is a enthusiast he uses terms and knows models and function every video it's awesome
this video made my life so much better, im a a trillionaire now thank you nerd explains
Omfg 😂😭 this film was made locally and my dad is the one that said “don’t ruin the specimen”
He told us he was in a movie but declined when my step mom said we should all watch it
"if my dad was here he'd know what to do" 🤣Daddy issues strike again
"bum fuck nowhere, no cell service, busted car, dads missing." wow that's me growing up in the country....
Dude I love how NerdExplains has evolved he's much more conversational and his jokes are hitting 🤣
"Dear, Papa Don, we pushed your car into the nearest shit shack and ran off into the corn to get whiskey bent with a bunch of townies. 😘"
Love the brondo reference. it's got what plants need
Maybe the step dad put them through all that because he wanted to see if they cared about him or deserved to live. After them being bozos the entire time and failing to help him after we went off for help, he was like fuck those kids lol
Protagonist is the main character not here or villain
Antagonist is the word for a primary opponent to the point protagonist.
8:07 "All she had to do was give it a lick"
Lol, no that's a bad idea, you don't want to lick corpse blood, it's a good way to get really bad diseases. Blood has an easily identifiable sent, just sniff.
Honestly since she is training to be a doctor, the consistency should be enough to say if it's blood or not.
The consistency has been crazy, love the content bro keep going hard
I like to imagine Nerd is hunting his latest victims, currently trying to kill one but is actively taking a moment to stop and point out every stupid thing they do
Eventually, this entire impromptu endurance experiment gets to him and he decides to sever one of his own arteries to give them the fighting chance they apparently needed
The old music is back, god bless you
Why does the stepdad look like he's 5 years older than the kids at the absolute most.....
I'm so glad that the old background song got back to the vids, thx nerd!
That Idiocracy reference was absolutely perfect! Well done!
"This creep is squatting in a house"
"I know! We'll not take that as the obvious massive waving red flag that it is and jump in to piss off the cop!"
These two were begging to get killed. It's a wonder they got out of the car without somehow dying.
I love how Nerd explains just casually loses his shirt a the characters do stupid shit.
The best part of this, for someone who is does target shooting and such, was the decision to make the pistol a Hi-Point. I'm not knocking them at all, it's an option for people in that budget and they're surprisingly reliable from what I hear. But that's the most "it's a cheap movie, buy the cheapest gun that exists" thing a movie could do. Thanks Nerd for calling it out.
The first thing I imagined after reading the title... It's corn ! A big lumb with knobs ! It has the juice (it has the juice) 😂😂
Simon looks like the type of person that says they know what they’re doing but they dont
The power of a coward can be what saves your life sometimes.
You can be damn sure if my parental figure turned out to be in some murder cult and was about to murder me, my last words would be "Top 10 Anime Betrayals" and I would die knowing my murderer cringed.
I think the ‘you should have left when I gave you a chance’ line referred to him leaving them alone with the car for 2 days before the creep show started
8:26 you do not bled the body while the heart is pumping the animal has to be dead in order to taxidermy because the heart wouldn’t even stay beating as you do it the heart would stop beating when they lost enough blood sometimes I question your thought process but then I realize I still love the show
Another top video. Comedic effect is actually so good with these.
Oh my gosh the captions add to it so much I thought it was just a mistake and your audio was wrong but it’s so much funnier I mean I think you did it on purpose right? 😅😭😹
This channel is too good and just keeps getting better. Keep em coming!
The cornfield maze is the last place I’m going with out friends or a light source.
All these (Wrestling) References, I love it.
Once again a great video ^^
The fact that everyone in this movie had half a brain seems like it was a personal attack directed towards Kansas
I think we have a stupidity record on our hands boys.
One moment of silence please
this one is a gem even years later. the writing gets funnier and funnier as the vid goes on … classic Nrd Exp
Okay. These videos are kick ass. I'm so glad I subbed!

very well done stuff 👏 I love to watch reviews of movies kind of like the stuff that you do cuz it just adds another layer to the movie and the intensity of it in my opinion
*I Always Love Your Videos! Especially Your Character Criticisms*
"You'll never be my dad"
Girl, the man was about to turn you into a scarecrow, I don't think he gives a damn.
The sibling protagonists are the most unlikable people in any horror movie I've ever watched.
This video goes in way too hard dawg, after dealing with stupid shit all day this was perfect for my lunchbreak.
Love how don just killed one of his dad's workers and I like to imagine it's because he just dislikes him
Those steampunk glasses on his neck look similar to the ones I have on a cheap steampunk hat, just with most of the gear stuff off of it
You're commentary on movie stupidity is just awesome.
11:59 "No touchie!" had me dying
“They were dealing with forces far too stupid to actually exist”
😂😂😂
Okay right off the bat, that's a great thumbnail. As an artist it gives me happy chemicals.
