Argentina's gauchos used the single ball /stone on a single length of rope as a disposable throwing weapon

I remember reading that the inca army had something similar for some of their troops

It would be awesome to launch a similar thing with a LED light and a tail made of a glowstick against a dark sky. I'd pay to have this in a party. Swirling it with the sling until the light goes off would be awesome too.

Interesting... The amount of flutter in the ribbon certainly causes a lot of drag. I still need to try a short tail made from thread. I wonder if being short would reduce it somewhat. or if fins are just better for stabilization.

the one I tried (100g ) with a long thread didn't unwrap. with a short thread it was better. fins or stick tail would be much better stabilizer if they release clean and the spin rate is low

Could you take a look at the descriptions of the Achaean sling, what it looked like and the authentic Greek style of shooting?
If you've been able to solve the kestrophendone mystery, this will be easy, we need you!

I haven't reached to a conclusion about the sling , maybe I can talk about some ideas.

Nice idea, did it change the precision in a measurable way? And if so, better or worse with the ribbons?

there is high drag on a heavy projectile, once in a while there is a slip with the wrapped method and the unwrapped method tangles with the sling every time but sometimes it is not visible. I would try the wrapped method for fun at close range. precision similar or less than smooth stones of similar mass

@@Acroballistics Thank you very much for the answer, will try it out a bit for the fun of it.

Have you ever had the ribbon tangle up in your sling and have the stone swing back and hit you in the face?
