Great tutorial. Such a breath of fresh air listening to instruction that are so well spoken. I have a very similar setup. Doing my own research I have found that a lot of 'USB to ethernet' adaptors that you connect to a USB 2 port will work on a 10/100 base speed. These Evergreen ethernet adaptors will connect at 1gb but transmit at 480 Mbps. This has given me a great deal of streaming stability, which I didn't get when connecting via the inbuild wifi on the firestick.
Great video as always. I've been using my 4k Firestick with 4TB FAT32 formatted USB HDD attached for a few months. I use it as a media server by running Kodi configured as a DLNA server. This allows access to all the media on the server using any device on the WiFi with a DLNA client eg VLC, Castify, Kodi etc. Works great, runs 24/7 with minimal power especially if the HDD is configured to sleep when not in use.

Thank you 🙏🏻 I have spare 2x 128GB flash drive usb 2.0, will this still be ok for internal storage (although a tad slower/download) ?

I am trying to create a setup that will work in the motor home on 12v. We don't have 240. I bought the three way OTG cable. And a three gang USB unit. The extra space on the USB stick and the dongle for the Wechip will only work on the USB socket on the OTG cable and not in the USB unit. I am thinking it's lack of power? So if this is the issue we would probably be better off with the Storage than the wechip. any thoughts Tanya please?
I use a hard drive plugged into the USB port on my router to store movies and files. This hard drive can be accessed by my two Fire sticks and Android boxes without using the add-on devices. I play movies using VLC Player and files using ES Explorer which can access the hard drive over the network.
I bought the OTG and Ethernet adapter/hub with the firestick. It works very well, with two downsides: first, the USB 2.0 the firestick have is a major bottleneck especially when streaming and, some USB storage devices are not well handled or recognized by the firestick. I have tested some external storage (WD, Toshiba and Samsund HDD) or Toshiba, Sandisk, Kingston USB flashdrives (from 8 to 32G) and only WD was recognized properly and Toshiba. Strange thing is that worked flawlessly no-brand storage devices like generic USB sticks(4 to 16G), generic SATA HDD enclosures (most with J-Micron chip).
@@FireTVSticks It might not make any difference, but my Firestick is the HD one, not the 4k version. I use Total commander and the USB hub is powered by a 5V/5A power brick. Maybe there were some difference or my Sandisk was a clone. I bought a 10-pack 8G USB sticks from Amazon for cheap and they worked perfectly.
Houston we have a problem. Hi followed this instructive video tooth and nail, however the 4K will not recognise any usb drive as storage, It sees them if incorrectly formatted and then formats, but still no joy. Ethernet works fine. Hope you can help and good luck with your channel, keep safe, Rich

Good morning Tanya, when I put the pen drives into otg adapter to fire tv stick : it shown like this “Fire TV cannot access apps on this USB device.” Now what to make it work.
Great video to maximize my firestick, I just ordered the ugreen adapter. Are there any settings to add to this setup when complete to start it working? Also using xplorer, can I see both the extry internal storage and the external storage that i can load my tivimate movies on?
Yes, so long as you do not format any external drive to system storage and your storage drive is formatted to FAT32 you can see the drive in x-plore. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Do you or have you made a similar video tutorial for a firetv vs firestick. I was using my to with a virtual setup with fedora, but ran out of space and had to uninstall it do to lack of space.
What about External HDDs that got its own power supply? Because i wanted to do this along time ago, but different sites said it only works with normal External HDDs without it own power supply.
Shouldn't be an issue, just plug the power into your HDD as well. What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I hope this helps. Hi Tanya, have you tried this insane deployment using a Firestick 4K (not Max)? I have mirrored all of your proposal less the Bluetooth gamepad. I have ordered the UGREEN hub as listed below your video WITH the AC adapter. I also ordered the mini USB Sandisk sticks 32GB as referenced as well. When I am also using the OTG recommended cable. When I connect the USB hub to the OTG with its power source, I don't see my storage or any of the usb devices like the mouse pad. When I remove and put the 32GB memory stick directly into the USB port of the OTG port, my Forestick constently reboot. Do you have a few hints for me? I would really like to deploy that setup. BTW I have also updated my OS to the latest release as well; I have played with the HDMI ports; I have unplugged everything, including the TV to no avail as I am always getting this behaviour. I also have more than one of each of the devices as I was planning in deploying this more than one TV, so I have also swapped each device to see if it would be the source of the issue and I remain unable to do anything and get a constantly rebooting stick when I connect directly to the OTG. Thank you in advance for any suggestion you may have.
As I understand it and I'm having same issue it will not work on first generation sticks. I just ordered a new 4K stick think it would be newer version and it was a first generation stick with 3 gen remote.
Hi Tanya, hope everything is well, I went with the Otg cable and USB hub w/ Ethernet plug Wich doubles my wifi reception from 110mgbs to 224mgbs w/vpn,,mind you I have a 400mgbs wifi package, The USB hub is great for Keyboard and remote w/mouse, everything works great! Thanks to you.. Believe me I'm listening when you share.

What was I thinking! Just did your OTG setup and went from 75mbps to 140mbps average all the way up to 372mbps 80 feet away from my modem/router with 1.2Gbps service! Never happen before! Thank you!
Amazing isn't it? I never knew most Samsung smart TVs stop at 100gbps, with this setup you can do even 400gbps I believe. It made a huge difference in the performance of my TV.
I have a usb connected to my firestick and it shows that it’s there and I’ve taken the steps to have new apps to save to the usb, but the apps AREN’T going to the usb. The usb symbol is on the managed apps page but the memory numbers don’t change 😕 Can you help me please?
If the USB symbol is there, the app is installed to the external storage. The memory numbers might not be changing because of the size of the apps you are installing. If they are only a few MB in size, you may not see any drop in storage until you reach a GB in used space. The internal memory will continue to decrease as app data and cache are still stored on the internal storage. X-plore will not show any additional system storage as the system now has it and it is inaccessible to you. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
I used your setup as an example to add more storage and ethernet connection, everything right great however I have one issue. I moved all my aps to the usb storage stick and they work however I have to start them from the settings/application menu or recently used menu. Yes it will. Depending on how you added your storage will affect how you can see your storage in a file explorer. As I do not know what you have done with your storage, here are all the possible answers: If you only attached storage and didn't do anything else to it (like allocate or partition to system storage) then this is a great way to explore your storage - ruclips.net/video/zM52i-VhjPU/видео.html If you used ADB to partition your storage as PRIVATE, you are no longer able to view the contents. It is inaccessible by any file explorer application. You will need to use the df -h command to see your storage space. Here is a video showing you how - ruclips.net/video/RI6Gj0zwdQw/видео.html If you used ADB to partition your storage as MIXED, you will ONLY be able to see the partition of your storage that is not allocated to system storage by using a file explorer app. This is a great way to explore that part of your storage - ruclips.net/video/zM52i-VhjPU/видео.html If you have Fire OS 7 and storage was added via the Fire TV settings, you will not be able to explore that storage device. I use a hard drive plugged into the USB port on my router to store movies and files. This hard drive can be accessed by my two Fire sticks and Android boxes without using the add-on devices. I play movies using VLC Player and files using ES Explorer which can access the hard drive over the network.
Yes, this is a great way of accessing your files over a local network. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
In my experience, Sandisk works the best for me. Interesting. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Nice....👌
Good morning Tanya, when I put the pen drives into otg adapter to fire tv stick : it shown like this “Fire TV cannot access apps on this USB device.” Now what to make it work.
What Firestick are you using? Have you used the pen drive for anything else previously? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Make an enclosure for all that and it'll be better.
Hi Tanya!
Is it possible to use "Ugreen USB-C 7 in 1 HUB (4K 60Hz HDMI)" with Fire TV Stick 4K Max? Thank you!
I haven't had time to try it with the 4K Max, but I assume you can.
nutter..... but in the best way possible... thats a crazy setup... lol
Nice Video
Great video to maximize my firestick, I just ordered the ugreen adapter. Are there any settings to add to this setup when complete to start it working? Also using xplorer, can I see both the extry internal storage and the external storage that i can load my tivimate movies on?
Yes, so long as you do not format any external drive to system storage and your storage drive is formatted to FAT32 you can see the drive in x-plore. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
excellent idea i am using a 4usb hub. 1 usb multi-card reader, 1 ethernet, 1 airmouse and 1 external storage.
Do you or have you made a similar video tutorial for a firetv vs firestick. I was using my to with a virtual setup with fedora, but ran out of space and had to uninstall it do to lack of space.
I don't sorry. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive
Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe
Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t
As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.
Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Yh’ I’ve got it and I love it !
Thank you in advance for any suggestion you may have.
storage takes extra steps, it's in her playlist on adding storage. she just left it out to keep the video shorter, but she has it on other vids
As I understand it and I'm having same issue it will not work on first generation sticks. I just ordered a new 4K stick think it would be newer version and it was a first generation stick with 3 gen remote.
Hi Tanya, hope everything is well,
I went with the Otg cable and USB hub w/
Ethernet plug Wich doubles my wifi reception
from 110mgbs to 224mgbs w/vpn,,mind you
I have a 400mgbs wifi package, The USB hub
is great for Keyboard and remote w/mouse,
everything works great! Thanks to you..
Believe me I'm listening when you share.
P.s. I only went with the 32gb USB storage, because I'm not a big gamer.. but nevertheless
Everything works great 👍 ... So listen folks
Can I see this setup on my network and transfer files back and forth with it?
You may be able to do this via a free file explorer app such as X-plore or by installing VLC player. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I upgraded and went from 92Mbs to 156mbs...BRILLIANT!!!😁😁
Thank you for watching 😊👍
Oh i would love to take a look at you 😘
I used your setup as an example to add more storage and ethernet connection, everything right great however I have one issue. I moved all my aps to the usb storage stick and they work however I have to start them from the settings/application menu or recently used menu. If I try to open them from the my apps they do not launch and give me the option to download them. Is this a known issue, can you help?
This should resolve itself if you restart your Firestick. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
@@FireTVSticks I have tried it several times it continues even when I restart. Even my FOXNOW app I moved to the usb shows gray in manage application menu it is the only that does that
Should I use a launcher I watched your video and I am thinking about trying that.
Sorry for that saying this earlier but your Videos are GREAT and they have helped me so much. You make them so easy to understand follow thank-you so very much watch you have done and continue to do!!!

hi tanya, what app would you recommend for accessing a local nas ?
VLC Player. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Why do you think my USB drive is not showing up under MY FIRE TV? Thanks for your programs.
Which Firestick do you have? Only Firesticks running Fire OS 7 will show external storage in the My Fire TV menu. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Hi.
I followed your add on storage as your suggested but I can’t see my 2TB hard in my X-plore any suggestions my setup i followed is as you showed.
Thanks
Is it formatted to FAT32? Have you allocated it to system storage or additional storage? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
@@FireTVSticks
Hi can’t get over how quick you got back to me, Anyhow please excuse my ignorance but how do i do as you suggest,
Thanks
@@blackcoalboy For how to format to FAT32 please see this video: ruclips.net/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/видео.html Jump to these times in the video depending on the size of your storage: 18:31 - Format drives smaller than 32GB 19:42 - Format drives larger than 32GB
To add additional system storage - the 4K Max, 4K Firestick, 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick and the Lite Fire TV Stick are all capable of expanding the storage.
The 4K Firestick follows this process: ruclips.net/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/видео.html
The 4K Max, 3rd Gen and the Lite follow a different process that does not need ADB, you can add the external storage directly by following this video: ruclips.net/video/xilUcuHpk3Y/видео.html

Will the setup you showed with 2 usb storage devices work with firestick4k. I have a 512gb set for internal storage and a 2 tb external storage device that worked for 3 days now the internal storage 512 tb microSD is only adding 1 % to the fire stick and does not show up in any file manament have xplorer and esfile mgr and now the system shuts down intermittently both usb devices are sandisk
Yes it will. Depending on how you added your storage will affect how you can see your storage in a file explorer. As I do not know what you have done with your storage, here are all the possible answers:
If you only attached storage and didn't do anything else to it (like allocate or partition to system storage) then this is a great way to explore your storage - ruclips.net/video/zM52i-VhjPU/видео.html
If you used ADB to partition your storage as PRIVATE, you are no longer able to view the contents. It is inaccessible by any file explorer application. You will need to use the df -h command to see your storage space. Here is a video showing you how - ruclips.net/video/RI6Gj0zwdQw/видео.html
If you used ADB to partition your storage as MIXED, you will ONLY be able to see the partition of your storage that is not allocated to system storage by using a file explorer app. This is a great way to explore that part of your storage - ruclips.net/video/zM52i-VhjPU/видео.html
If you have Fire OS 7 and storage was added via the Fire TV settings, you will not be able to explore that storage device.
Hope this gives you the info you need? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
pretty kool but if i was to do this i would do it on the nvidia shield pro what a beast it would be! 😁
